This is gonna be an unpopular opinion, but all the sequels, and stuff like this miss the entire point of why I liked the first John Wick. JW2-4 did nothing much for me beyond (oh yeah, that actions cool), and seeing movies with good action is not really hard. The lore of this world was interesting in the background of the first JW, but the more they explore it, and brought it to the forefront, the less I cared. It became about the world, and less about the characters.
The first JW was so effective to me because it was at it's core a relatable personal story. Simple, but effective. For animal lovers, it was easy to side with John Wick, because anyone who kills a puppy totally deserves to die, so you root for him the whole movie. Plus...I kinda liked the first John Wick because John himself was rarely at a disadvantage. It was like watching a horror movie, where you're rooting for the killer. He was always in the shadows and just murdering everyone who didn't have a chance through a lot of the first movie. Unstoppable to an insane level where no obstacle could stop him. That setup might not have worked well for sequels, but the first movie didn't need sequels. After seeing them, I probably would've been fine without them also, because none of them made me feel anything, while the first one always engaged me on multiple viewings.
