JON STEWART: Well Stephen, what do you think is going to happen now at CBS News?

STEPHEN COLBERT, Daily Show Senior Media Correspondent: Jon, there's got to be some accountability. Dan Rather is the head, the commander in chief if you will of his organization. He's someone in the ultimate position of power who made a harmful decision based upon questionable evidence. Then, to make things worse, he stubbornly refused to admit his mistake, choosing instead to stay the course and essentially occupy this story for too long. This man has got to go!

STEWART: Uh ... we're talking about Dan Rather...?

COLBERT: Yes Jon, Dan Rather. CBS is in chaos, it's unsafe, riven by internal rivalries. If you ask me, respected, reputable outsiders need to be brought in to help the rebuilding effort.

STEWART: ... at CBS News?

COLBERT: Yeah, at CBS news! What possible other unrelated situation could my words be equally applicable to?! Now people need to be held accountable. The commander in chief, the vice president, the secretary of defense, the national security adviser -- everyone at CBS News needs to go! Jon, I can tell you, Walter Cronkite is rolling over in his grave.

STEWART: Walter Cronkite is still alive.

COLBERT: Not according to my sources ... at CBS News

Gold.

The Daily Show (and GAF) are my only sources of news anymore. Every other news outlet is just beating a dead, irrelevant horse.

The Daily Show is the primary source of news for MANY people these days. They're comedic but it's not like they're The Onion or something.

You have to understand that repubs have no clue as to what a news organization is, thus their affinity of Fox.

I agree. But, I wouldn't put them in the same league as a CBS, ABC, CNN, or even FOX (who is funny but for different reasons).

This is true. I guess a news source would be a better way to describe them.

:lol Hilarious. My favorite Daily Show moment is still when Colbert did the "gay Nazi" salute.

Bah, the best is him going down on a banana.

Oh, anybody who does not appreciate Colbert should not be trusted.

If people really are getitng their news from The Daily Show, a night time talk show that often sets up it dicussion of the day's events just to make a pun, then that says something about the appeal of other media venues just as much as it does the Daily Show (which is probably the best show on TV, but I digress).

As for bias, the Daily Show has really always fed on two things-blatant hypocrisy and making fun of our completely incompetent mainstream media.

This particular segment is really making more fun of the way that the media went berserk scruitinizing over Dan Rather's documents, and totally gave all of the fake-ass WMD shit that Bush used to scam Congress and the American into going to war with Iraq a complete free pass. The Rather documents are a burp in an election cycle, the latter has cost tens of thousands of lives and hundreds of billions of dollars.

The Daily Show presents my frustration in this piece, like so many others, in a way that I can actually laugh at it and at the same time feel better than someone is just as pissed off at I am about the complete failure of media in this circumstance to do their job.

Edit: Meier didn't get the note that you're not allowed to vote R in Leon County. You're either with the Democrats, or with Chris Rix, you know. :D

I'm really glad I haven't lived in Tallahassee for almost four years. Watching that no-talent assclown (Rix) blow game after crucial game is hard enough to watch on television.

Rix = terrorist. You could level a city block in Tallahassee with a car bomb and it wouldn't piss off the town as much as an incompetent quarterback blowing the big game would.

If you're tired of news shows to the point of just watching the Daily Show for news--as I was--I encourage you to watch Countdown on MSNBC. It's hosted by the greatest Sportscenter anchor, Keith Olbermann, and the show doesn't take itself too seriously.

WATCH IT

:lol :lol God, I miss the Daily Show! I don't have a tv in my dorm room anymore. :( Then again, one of the main reasons I watched the Daily Show was because I was sick of the other networks' coverage of the news, so I don't have to worry about that either. :p

As far as TV news goes, Daily Show is the best, though only getting your news from there is a bad idea (duh). Go read the Guardian, biatch.

Nice try Raoul, but no.

I just don't understand.

Is he saying that the conclusion that "someone in the ultimate position of power who made a harmful decision based upon questionable evidence" is an unfair analogy for Bush's war on Iraq, or does "Nice try, but... no" equate to him declaring that it isn't funny, after no less than five posters exclaimed exactly the opposite?

No? You're just pissed cause I'm whipped your ass in fantasy baseball.

Let me spell out the funny in that daily show joke, since apparently more of you are functionally retarded than I previously assumed.

George W. Bush is the leader of the free world, our President and Commander in Chief. It's his duty to take data and information given to him by his underlings and make policy decisions based on that data. His advisors gave him incorrect data concerning Iraq, causing him to go to war. The President has since stubbornly stuck by his actions, and refused to admit that he made a mistake.

Dan Rather is the titular head(really just the face guy) of CBS news. I suppose it's his job to decide what stories get put on, but ultimately the buck probably doesn't even stop with him. CBS news is likely more of a committee rule organization. Someone gave CBS memos that might be true in content(the content still has yet to be proven false) but were forged in reality. Dan Rather fucking read them on the news and then stood by them. When it finally became apparent to everyone and their fucking uncle that the memos were false, CBS retracted them and Rather apologized.

HERE'S THE FUNNY!: George W. Bush's mistake has cost the lives of over 1,000 US servicemen and women to date, and cost billions and billions of dollars. Dan Rather's mistake pissed off a bunch of uptight assholes who 10 years ago were accusing President Clinton of everything from murder to rape.

Hmmm... I take it back. You know what, it's NOT funny. It's fucking sad that there are people so divorced from reality out there that they not only can't see that George W. Bush made the bigger mistake, but are going bat shit crazy calling for the heads of the "Liberal Media". Sad, sad, sad. Oh well, you dumb fuckers are going to be first up against the wall when the Revolution comes, and then we'll kill all the lawyers and sleep with your mothers and sisters. Don't say you weren't warned, you shameful excuses for humanity.
