An Oscar nom was small fry for Nolan, he wanted to take on the entire system. Now 10 films get nominated for best film
Man, they weren't kidding. You take this shit to heart, huh?
Time to lock this thread. It has become a shit-stain on batman's cape.
You're fucking crazy. Aviator, The Departed, and Hugo shit all over Spielbergs shitty lack luster work from the past ten years.Spielberg was better than Scorsese last decade, is there seriously a debate as to whether he was better than Nolan too?
pfft. Oh and I'm pretty confident this will be better than Prometheus, despite me being more excited for that film.
Lindelof is trash.

No, this thread can be saved. There are good people here. Give us time.
No one can save the hype thread. When a forest grows too wild, a purging fire is inevitable and natural. Tomorrow, the site will watch in horror as its greatest mega-thread destroys itself. The movement back to harmony will be unstoppable this time.

Scorsese > Nolan > Spielberg
Comparing the disappointments of AI, Minority Report, War of the Worlds, The Terminal, Catch Me If You Can, and Indiana Jones 4 to Scorsese or even Nolan's last decade of filmmaking?
This debate will take a while.
I'll give you a couple of those, but Minority Report and Catch Me If You Can are really excellent films, and War of the Worlds is pretty damn good too. From a directing standpoint, I'd put any of these 3 films on par with The Dark Knight, if not above it.
And anyway, The Dark Knight isn't even Nolan's best film, and that's coming from someone who thinks it's very good.
I lol'd

AI is the best film any of these three directors have made since 2000.
The only film of Scorsese's in the last 10 years that wasn't worthwhile was Shutter Island and even then it still was an enjoyable pulpy thriller. Scorsese is a god amongst men when it comes to directing. Nolan will never ever have as lasting of a legacy on on the art form as Scorsese did.Nolan was the best of the three last decade. Spielberg and Scorsese had like 2 worthwhile films each.

They are all great directors who I wish would make a movie every year. The question I want answered is, who do you guys think is worse: Brett Ratner or McG....

The Dark Knight was not robbed of an Oscar win. Maybe a nomination, but not a win. The Wrestler was robbed.
McG is better than Nolan and Terminator will be appreciated as a classic years from now.
Gangs of New York, aside from DDL, is pretty shitty. Shutter Island is awful. The Aviator and The Departed are the only two I think are good. The only film of Scorsese's in the last 10 years that wasn't worthwhile was Shutter Island and even then it still was an enjoyable pulpy thriller. But that isn't fair, the 70's American New Wave is the gold standard of modern American cinema.
I disagree. A father trying to reconnect with an estranged child is pretty fucking compelling, especially since The Ram is an awesome character. The Wrestler was robbed of an interesting plot.

SHOCKER: Chris Nolans Agent Dan Aloni Fired From CAA
EXCLUSIVE: Chris Nolan has just left CAA, in the wake of the firing of Dan Aloni. A source close to the situation tells me that Nolan and his producer/wife Emma Thomas, will be going wherever Aloni lands. This makes Aloni a prime commodity in the marketplace, whether he goes to an agency like WME or becomes a manager. I broke the story earlier today when CAA abruptly fired Aloni, on the grounds that he didnt mesh with the agencys culture. Nolan directed the three Batman films as well as Inception. He also produced Superman film Man of Steel. Hes a billion dollar director that any agency would kill to represent.
Id heard early today that while CAA tried to keep Nolan in the fold, the agency more or less expected this might happen. The agency is due about $12 million in commissions from past and upcoming film deals brokered for Nolan, which cushioned the blow somewhat. What a crazy development this has been. Nolans move underscores what Ive heard about Aloni: he can be a prick with co-workers, but he kills for his clients and they are loyal in return. Im waiting to see if Alonis other clients feel the same.
Munich, minority report, A.I, Catch Me If You Can and Tin Tin > Nolan's output alone.
Nolan does not have it in him to make something like Munich.
