The Dark Knight Rises (Batman 3) - No Riddler

In my opinion the first half of BB is the best of both films, but once Bruce becomes Batman it decreases in quality. TDK is more consistent and better right the way through, plus Joker is the best character in the Batman series.

This is pretty much how I feel about it. After Bruce becomes Batman I think Begins kind of takes a slight nosedive. That's why I tend to prefer TDK overall.

And Veidt...some of that was spoilers. But wtf are you doing in this thread jett? Solo made a thread just for you.

:lol

if that was a spoiler then the poster released recently, the prologue and the trailer are spoilers too.

but you guys are right. what may be considered as nonspoilers for some, might not be the case for others.

So basically I've figured the story by now
at the start bane breaks a plane to make sure CIA doesn't know about bane. Bane captures a professor named Pavel who constructs a doom machine. There is a woman in Wayne Industry who is friends with Bruce, but also secretly steals technology to Bane. Catwoman is aware of his plans. Bane wants to liberate Gotham. He frees inmates, batman shows up and they fight. Bane forces fatigue in him. Bane attacks a stadium to show the machine. Batman appears and they fight again, with bane losing this time. Next time they meet in a batcave where bane breaks him. And destroys the batcave. After this Bane takes over Gotham. Jails are filled with rich and DR. Crane acts as judge, sentencing people to death. Bane is a outlaw mayor. He wants to decimate Gotham and make Bruce witness it before he kills batman. But batman becomes a legend of freedom and Bruce trains himself back into the shape. Catwoman frees him and others after a change in heart. A large revolving fighting ensue. Catwoman and batman follow the earthquake machine. Batman uses vtol to eliminate tumblers and catwoman steals the doom machine truck. Bane stops a tumbler to fire the batting down and it crashes on top of a tumbler where bane is. After crash Bane wants to kill him for ruining his reign, but fails, when batman takes his mask out. Batman wins, but is afterwards so crippled, he most likely dies as a symbol of freedom on the scene.
. As based on all gathered leaks and Pittsburgh footage and couple of rumors.

You didn't mention
Talia al Ghul except for the stealing technology thing
. I would assume she'd have a bigger part to play considering her stature.

That's actually one of the biggest things I'm concerned about right now, since
I'm very afraid they may take the easy way out and have Talia and Catwoman do a cliche girl fight while Batman and Bane duke it out
. I hope they can do justice to the depth of the character.

Yeah I know.
I know she initiates banes operations and backstabs batman.
its just that I don't know where to put in between.

wow that sounds awful :( really hope that's not true but it certainly makes a lot sense
given the title of the movie. I didnt really like "hero" twist of TDK (it was cool but made no sense) and this "rewind" makes it even worse.
. But then again not really sure if a short summary of BB or TDK would sound anybetter ;)

Whatever happens, i do hope Batman dies. And not Bruce Wayne lives and he retires the bat. I want Bruce Wayne/Batman to die. And then i will cry manly tears.

What about
R'has al Ghul?

That ain't happening. It isn't Nolan's style and is too "Marvel Movie" like.

"You think this can last? There's a storm coming, Mr. Wayne. You and your friends better batten down the hatches... because when it hits, you're all gonna wonder how you ever thought you could live so large and leave so little for the rest of us."

Hard to say for sure, but I think that's it.
Dialog is awful

My stink-o-meter is reading off the charts from what has been shown of this movie so far

Just one city and wouldnt the army come in and take it back?

Last time everyone had a hard time catching Joker. Maybe
Gotham is isolated from the rest of the world, lol. I think Bane's Deus ex machina has something to do with it.

Also...Gotham has no Riot Police and every cop fights with hands. I mean this Batman trilogy is not perfect. Sometimes you just need suspension of disbelief.

I agree the CG football field looked weird. But, points one and three are really no more out there then anything else in the previous movies. He had a fucking jumping tank in part one. That was fine? But a vehicle that can fly!? What kind of sci-fi shit is this?

It's not realistic. It's grounded in reality. It's about how things are presented/sold to the viewer.

Yeah I get the feeling a lot of people go into certain movies wanting to dislike it and then nitpick it to hell when they do find something to dislike.

Of course there are those who overlook everything if they want to like the movie.

I don't get caught up on things like evaporators or the batmobile being able to climb rooftops, I get more upset at things like Rachel being a completely different character in the 2nd movie and I don't even mean the change in actresses.

Why are you both misremembering BB? The car doesn't fly or climb. He drives to the top of a parking garage, uses the bridging boost off the ledge, lands on a building, drives on the building, boosts again, repeat.

when has nolan ever let us down?

The Dark Knight

Oh god I just realized how many comments we will have to read about

"THIS ISN'T AS GOOD AS THE JOKER ONE! THIS ISN'T THE SAME!"

"IF ONLY HEATH DIDN'T DIE!"

"JOKER!!!"

Well it's the truth - Heath's death really threw a wrench into Nolan's plans. Just imagine how much more excited people would be if the Joker was in this with some other traditional villain.
Also - I hated the idea of bane from the start but Tom is gonna pull it off and I love the voice

Hopefully batman doesn't die and we get another directors take on the semi realistic Batman universe

That supposed WB insider who said trailer AND prologue both will be online by no later Tuesday is probably half right.

My guess is trailer is out by Monday night. Prologue will be only attached to a super duper edition of TDK blu ray to be released in February.

We actually don't know that. Yes logically we can assume Heath might have been back to reprise the role especially after how well it was received but Nolan always claims he works on one movie at a time. If that is to be believed, while they might have brought him back, there was no set in stone story or idea for the third movie. In fact Nolan didn't commit to the third movie until they hammered out a good enough story and script.

Joker would be more exciting, but I will give Nolan the benefit of doubt here. He made Scarecrow interesting.

Bane is relatively unknown outside of the dedicated comic book reader. If anything he can be redefined into a very cool character. I watched the prologue in IMAX and am already sold on Bane.

Can't find it now but Im pretty sure Nolan was quoted in saying that the Joker was to be heavily used in the 3rd one

I'd love to read that because as I remember it everything he mentioned after TDK was about how he wasn't sure if he is going to do a third one, how they don't know if they would have used the Joker, and how he never plans for a sequel while making a movie because it distracts from making the best possible current movie.

It was Goyer who said that, not Nolan. His idea was to make Joker the main villain of TDK, end it with Dent becoming Two-Face, then make Two-Face the primary for the third movie with Joker filling a Hannibal Lecter-type role.

This was before TDK even came out though, and obviously that movie ended very differently what Goyer initially conceived.

I didn't think Batman used fantasy devices except when a mystical sidekick or two would show up like Dr. Fate or Zatanna.

And then suddenly trolls show up.

That sounds interesting, but I really loved the way it went down in the movie. Two-Face seemed perfectly suited to a short, tragic story arc. Having the Joker serve a Hannibal Lecter role would have been fantastic however

Sometimes adversity produces better results.

I would posit a guess that the plan to definitively end the saga only came about after the Joker was no longer an option...and it's entirely possible that we might get a better film because they took the path they did.

You list those quotes, but on the other side of the fence, you could have people saying things like this:

"He was better in the last one"

"Jack Sparrow Syndrome"

"Joker doesn't feel fresh anymore"

"The script relies too heavily on Joker"

Any of those could have easily been legitimate criticisms of another Joker-centric movie.

My point is simply that The Dark Knight Rises being risky in terms of its choices doesn't mean that the alternative would've been a guaranteed success (had Ledger not died) .

All pretty much true, but still, would have liked to see Joker's reaction to what appears to be full blown anarchy. As well as his reaction to not being it's architect, but a bystander.
