The Dark Knight Rises (Batman 3) - No Riddler

I'm going to Nolan hell / Limbo for saying this, but I still don't like the Bane mask here. Nolan's Joker was a spot-on "horrifyingly real life" visualization of the comic character. His Bane though, seems like a character out of a 1990s low budget comic book movie. Designed by someone who didn't understand the visual language of the original character and didn't realize their concept looked goofy.

To me, it's bad enough to be really distracting whenever I see him on screen. Still, he has the voice, the swagger, and the acting chops to make those aspects work. It's too bad he couldn't have also been as visually spot-on as Ledger's Joker.

The attitude Hardy will bring to the role will probably offset that. If the performance is right - and I imagine it very much will be - then after a point you won't even notice the mask anymore. The actions and personality of Bane will be far more visible.

I love it. I love the mask. It's apparent he's got some slight breathing issues and the mask helps to communicate that. I think it works so great because of that and also because the pipes and tubes all look so mechanical. Almost like they are synthetically a part of his skull/skeletal structure. He's an unstoppable machine.

ezekial: :P

My thought with Bane as well. And talking to someone I know who was a stand in on the film, Hardy was apparently fucking scary when he got into character. In between takes he was this goofy dude just messing with people, but once the cameras rolled he was like Jason Vorhees imposing on the set. My friend's description, not mine.

I wouldn't doubt it.

Some of you who are still down on Hardy (I can't imagine why) and/or Bane should go catch Warrior. Wonderful film and tremendous performances, and Hardy brings some of that Bane harshness and swagger to the role. A fun little preview of what you might expect from his Bane performance.

That or Bronson.

I don't doubt Hardy. I only doubt all the stuff that seems to be tossed into the film. It just seems like overkill. I want to be wrong Nolan!

The definitive Tom Hardy performance that everyone needs to see is Bronson. That's some intense psychotic rage for you right there.

Was anyone else, that saw it in IMAX, not the biggest fan of the prologue? Thought it was a let-down. I was expecting to be blown away and instead I got a sound mix from a third-grader and an unintimidating villain. A few of the
plane shots
were admittedly cool, but it looks like this could be a pretty scattered film.

A combo Gif of Bane standing up, ripping his restraints off like they were nothing, and when Bane straight up throat punches the guy from Game of Thrones. Would be nice.

Yet people were calling me crazy for lambasting WB. They've obviously sent out a bunch of dodgy prints of the prologue with the whole batch.

christopher nolan doesn't own a cellphone or has no email for that matter.
wtf

Meh, I got lazy.

You could say I'm a post-ROTK Peter Jackson.

You're talking about gaunt-looking PJ. Recent sightings have suggested he's back to fat pappy Jackson for The Hobbit.

You should be worried about whether Bale's still gaunt TDK Bale or whether he too has returned to being Begins' Fatman.

someone please supply me with a link to that better quality prologue!

Finally the prologue with the whole screen in view. I loved it. Was able to recognise the Bane 'theme' playing in the background too. Can't wait.

I've seen Bronson and Hardy's performance was terrific, but I imagine Bane will be closer in style to his Warrior performance, in terms of it being more of a simmering, low-key performance, relatively-speaking.
