Sherlock Holmes too.

Thin Red Line's his best, followed by:

The Lion King
Gladiator
Mission Impossible 2
Prince of Egypt
Batman Begins
Da Vinci Code
and some other shit.

Personally, this strikes me as he hasn't been Batman for however many years, Bane attacks the city and he rushes back to face him before he's ready (thus, him pleading with Lucius to get him back in the game, when Lucius thinks he isn't ready yet). They look down and beat up because it's during Bane's initial assault of Gotham.

That's what I thought initially too, but now I'm going back on it, since they both look disheveled (because Gotham's been under Bane's control for a while and because Bane probably sacks Wayne Enterprises) and they're in what looks like the bunker from TDK, which makes me think it's something of a last resort for staging an attack.

But I think your interpretation is equally valid. That line in general kinda seems more desperate than heroic.

How was TDK's any different? In general the Batman marketing has never given away too much of the plot. Its a mash up of random scenes on purpose.

Plus the 2nd trailer clearly follows a theme about Batman coming back.

I disagree. In the case of the TDK, there wasn't much secrecy because the story was much more clear. Joker was a threat that Batman must stop. The marketing reflected that. I was able to get behind the idea of Batman taking on the Joker because that's all there was to the story. I was excited.

That feeling is lost here. In this case, there's so much to hide that I feel it's hurting the marketing. Do I feel sad that Batman is going to get his ass kicked? Sorry for him because he looks winded while taking on Bane? Excited because he's returning from his hiatus which I'm confused about as a nerd because I'm not sure if it's after he got f'd up by Bane or after his 8 year hiatus I've been hearing about or whatever the hell? Or am I pumped for this all out war that these latest posters convey?

It's all over the place and it's very disorienting. I feel like it could've been done a little smarter and a little tighter. But that's just me.

Same here. Guess we'll find out in what, 9 weeks?

You are basically claiming they aren't giving the movie away to you. And even if TDK's marketing gave you a clearer picture, the actual movie was very different than what any of us had imagined from the commercials.

The Joker was a threat Batman must stop.
Bane is a threat Batman must stop.

The Joker crossed the line, Batman must adapt
Bane beats the crap out of Batman, Batman must adapt/rise

To me the actual critique is that the marketing isn't as clever (the viral for TDK was amazing), cool (the posters were superior for TDK), and the trailers utilized the one liners and music better for TDK. But in terms of actual content and what they have shown, its about the same. A mash-up of random scenes.

It was just too similar to TDK. I thought the reveal of the first Bane picture as a mosaic of the avatars of the Twitter users who retweeted #thefirerises was inspired but, a little too similar to the pixel by pixel reveal of Joker. Same with the reveal of the 3rd trailer and the worldwide scavenger hunt. Just as cool/immersive, but ya know, we've seen it before. Shame, because they ARE cool programs, TDK just spoiled us.

I saw it more as an attempt by a lesser or different company to mimic what a superior team pulled off.

Real IMAX projectors have a runtime cap of 2h46m. Anything over and they split the film into two separate reels like they did for Titanic 3D. Means a fifteen minute intermission.

well, on the bright side it might feel natural if Nolan is aware of it.

Kingdom of Heaven DC has a natural intermission in it's ~3 hour runtime.

There is nothing natural about a fifteen minute intermission. Everybody starts talking about what they think of the movie so far, what they like and don't like while it's still got more than an hour left. It's like premiering a blockbuster on GAF.

With Imax 3D requiring a pair of platters and projectors, could they minimise the intermission of a 2D film by showing half the film on each projector? Not that I'm against intermissions on +3 hr films.
