Yea, i forgot about this movie. then I realized I had alzeihmer's.
 
actually rewatched it tonight and ... well, enjoyed it but it didn't blow my mind. First time rewatching it on bluray since the cinemas. Its not OMFG amazing, its good. I do think the ledger death added to its prominence as a piece of historical film making. That plus its massive box office impact.

Ledger was great as the joker.

I have a DVD copy, but will probably watch it next year or something :P I'm like that with every movie, even one that I liked as much as TDK.

What? I think Ive been misunderstood.... Heath Ledger's performance has basically killed the Joker off for the foreseeable future, as people now link Heath's great work with the role, and wouldnt accept someone else in it for a while.

It's pretty much true. As far as cinematic versions go, his was perfect.

Sure you can backtrack to the comic book versions like Hammil's or Nicholson doing Romero, but as far as legitimate character, Ledger killed it. In a very, very good way.
Knocked it out of the park. Cinematic gold. Etc., etc.

Unless Nolan & Co. grants someone the permission to TRY, The Joker is done because everything else will look cheap by comparison.

It's like comparing Coke to the off-brand you buy at the Gasoline Station.
 
The Joker is bigger than Heath Ledger. If Nolan truly needs that character in the third movie as was part of his original plan, then I wouldn't mind a recast one bit.

I mean *intellectually* I agree, but that's the thing....

Acting isn't like "oh lets get someone to be INCREDIBLE". It's not a thing you can do on paper. You need someone with that rare spirit and incredible creative genius to pull it off.

If you could do it at the drop of the hat it would have been done and I for one, feel they'd be forcing it....

But since Nolan has made it clear several times that there is no original plan, that he approaches each film as a separate entity (rather than a trilogy), then the development of BB3/TDK2 began long after Heath died. And since Nolan seems to be a fairly respectful/sentimental kind of guy, Im doubting he'll bring the Joker back.

I dunno, ever since before Begins was out, there was talks of a general trilogy outline, with The Joker being the cause of Two-Face transformation in the second movie. I'm pretty sure he had a vague idea in his head about the third movie...even Aaron Eckhart confirms it:

I truly doubt the Joker will come back(for the stupid sentimental reasons you mentioned), but with the way TDK ends it's obvious he was meant to.
 
From the way Nolan dodged the Two Face murders during the live commentary ("I'll answer that at a later date"), I bet theres a flashback with Two Face that links TDK with Batman 3.

Nolan has to make up for the lack of flashbacks in The Dark Knight.
 
Any chance that maybe there's some cut footage of Heath that they could use as a small cameo in the 3rd film? You know, to somehow show that he's still around, it'd be weird if they didn't mention him at all, or his impact on the rest of the story ahead.

The more linear a Nolan film is, the more money it makes, so if they completely avoid this next time, it'll double Titanic's take.

Well no one except Nolan knows the answer to that for sure, but it's pretty unlikely. Nolan's notorious for making his scripts as lean as possible before shooting which is why he never has any deleted scenes.

Zack Snyder recently revealed that he would love to make his own Batman movie, based on Frank Miller's "Dark Knight Returns." Miller has already gave his blessing to Snyder. So if Warner Bros ever decided to let Snyder make his movie, how will go about doing it?

"I think the thing that's awesome about' Dark Knight,' like 'Watchmen,' is that it is a complete and total experience, that was unlike anything anyone has ever seen, and still is," Snyder told FirstShowing. "I think the big challenge for me would be — it's so 'montage-y' and so media thick, that you just have to — that's the techniques you'd have to develop and make work. Not to mention that it's clear to everyone except internet assholes that he's hit Watchmen out of the park...And 300, as crappy as it was, was an exact replica of the source material...and Dawn of the Dead was fucking amazing...

Yeah, I think we'd be lucky to get Snyder to do DKR. But I definitely wouldn't trade Nolan for anything.

I loved Batman Begins, but I didn't even see it until 7-8 months ago.
It's been impossible to dodge spoilers, that's partly why I still haven't watched but yeah, maybe this weekend.

either way.. should they choose to recast, it will be a difficult experience to watch because of the sense that something isn't quite right. Not having katie holmes in this still makes TDK's RD role a bit difficult to watch.
