I suppose, this big question now is this;
Is The Day Before the worst game ever made?
If you take away the decent graphics what do you have?
For 35-40 £/$/€ it must be up there.
Oh, and anyone else think the slow paced intro and tutorial was cynically designed to run down the 2 hour refund window on Steam?
Effectively, making it so that is takes more than 2 hours to actually get into the city and move around for a while before the realisation that it's an empty asset flip with fake gun shots and barely any zombies to fight.
It wouldn't surprise me.

It sucks, yes, but it's not the worst game ever made.
However, it might be the cheekiest example of how to generate years of hype with false promises and lies, pull it off ice cold and shamelessly sell the unfinished game to the customer.
I can't think of another example of this magnitude.

Some data I just pulled from the reviews :
I loaded the 1000 "Most helpful all time" (positive & negative) reviews,
of which 983 players have not recommended the game and 314 players have already refunded the game. This means a refund rate of 31.4% for this group.
Of the most recent (the list goes back to yesterday) 1000 reviews (positive & negative), 676 are negative, i.e. 67.7%.
The refund rate here is 24.8%.
Of the 1010 "Most helpful all time" ( only positive ) reviews, 35 players have refunded it, i.e. 3.47% refund rate even with people who obviously like it.

To get a more detailed insight I'm trying to load all 17586 reviews, I'm at 5000 now, steam is getting slow.
Of the 5000 most helpful all time positive and negative reviews, 3750, so 75%, are negative and 1037 players have refunded the game; thats 20.74 %

So out of the 7687 most helpful all time positive and negative reviews, 6208 ( 80,76 %) do not recommend it and 1284 (16,70 %) did a refund.
~2416 players have played the game less than 1h.
on top of the <1h players, ~2332 players have played less than 2 hours.
This means that of these ~7687 players, ~4748 players spent less than 2 hours in the game, that is ~61.77% who could refund the game ( excluding the 4.70 % who bought the game from resellers )

Of all 17,649 direct-at-steam-buyers, 9511 players have spent less than 2 hours in the game. That's 53.89% with a playtime <2h who could get a refund.

Death Stranding had atmosphere, something unique and fascinating, and the story was completely bonkers but strangely engaging at the same time.
That can carry a game a long way.

Absolutely not. Everyone who gave them money and did not refund it deserves to lose it for being a moron. In longer run, it might prove to be a valuable lesson for them, more than the money lost.

They completely scammed steam users. At $40 a pop They sold at least 30,000 copies based on Steam numbers...that's at least 1.2 million dollars.
Coupled with the fact they didn't have employees to pay b/c they had "volunteers", they made out like bandits. Wouldn't be surprised if they are in Barbados or Cancun right now just waiting for things to blow over in a few months.

This was a guaranteed DAY ONE for me. But, wait: Why didn’t I drop $40 on this?!

Two years ago Fntastic showed fake footage of a game they claimed they were making
It got hyped and was most wish listed
So then Fntastic said, “oh shit! We gotta really try to make this now”
So they used existing assets and rigged shit together for 18 months
Then in the last six months they suddenly started showing real footage which didn’t match what they showed 18 months prior
Then they stalled with fake copyright claims over the name etc and other shit
It came out. It’s ass. They closed their doors

The studio stole other games gameplay/cutscenes to make a trailer and create hype,bought a 2k asset pack to make the game,made a couple of million from the sales on Steam,then ran off with the money by shutting down the studio

Assets flips have a name for a reason. They're on all the major stores, the truth is the day before cost money to make. Even as an asset flip they had to spend money to make it. Valve delist and that's it, there isn't a lesson to be learned other than "you know it's an asset flip and can tell from the trailers, are you sure you still want to buy it?"
