Warhammer 40K is one of the last Western made role playing games that doesn't try to go for a message or try to bend a knee to anyone.

I'm still sort of new to the setting having only gotten my first book about 6 years ago but it's really intriguing and I love the lore so it worries me a bit.

From this tweet, it seems to be changing and it has me worried.

I'm going to avoid basically talking politics of course since it's not allowed here but I am curious what changes they are going to be making. Especially since the imperium of man aren't exactly good guys to begin with and are pretty much close to facist as you come to.

Yeah. I don't think you have much to worry about. Games Workshop just got uncomfortable with comparisons being made between the Emperor Of Mankind and Trump, by a very small minority of the Warhammer fanbase - who were fucking moronic to do it, given what the Imperium Of Mankind is actually like. 40k is deeply anti-facist, and always has been. The idiots who drew the comparison were basically saying Trump is a fascist - smooth brains the lot of them.

Every fandom has dickheads that need slapping down. That's all this is. Polygon are just blowing it all out of proportion, because it's Polygon.

40k isn't going woke any time soon.

It's just advertising.

I'd be more worried about the price tags of everything they do these days,

These are the times I'm glad I'm very wrong. Thanks for clearing that up.

Let’s see to that.

I never saw 40K as being critical or dismissive of Empire of Man. You know it’s a racist, insular, xenophobic empire. I never saw any moment of it being critiqued, maybe I am too stupid to get the nuance. On the other hand it was always portrayed as a very bleak future, someplace you would not want to live, maybe that’s what they meant.

Reading the tweet, seems they are looking at the player community not the in-game lore.

"hate to fester in it's community" seems to suggest that at least. It's just current year marketing.

Never got people acting like 40k suddenly got political. One of the Ork Warbosses is named after Thatcher.

The criticism of the Imperium is kind of inherent to the text. EG… It’s fucking awful to live in this universe, because it’s run by fucking awful people. Nothing is a celebration of how the empire conducts itself. It’s one giant cautionary tale.

Maybe this method of critique is a very British thing. We do love to criticise via satire - especially absurdist satire.

I love 40k for the same reason I love Judge Dredd. Both are satires of authoritarian dictatorships, and how awful they clearly are as methods of governance.

I was worried we'll see a plethora of LGBT space marines.

That seems to be everyone's favourite way to gain popularity to attract the tiktok and BuzzFeed crowd.

I’m just waiting for someone to get offended by the term ‘trans-human’ …which is what the Astartes are.

I remember people being worried about that years back.
I was really interested if games workshop was going to take any steps in that direction.
Actually I was more interested in HOW they would do it.

If they did the LGBT space marine thing then it would be akin to saying LGBT space nazies.
If they made the space nazies the good guys then they would contradict decades worth of lore and effectively murder what is unique about it.
They could introduce a "good guy" race which again would contradict the grim dark world they had created.
I think games workshop and the main player base knew their was nothing to really be done.

However if they really wanted to be inclusive and attract a wider player base then maybe they can lower their fucking prices.

The one thing guaranteeing that wokeism wont affect 40k is that everything and everyone in it is terrible 😂

But if you’re talking representation and equality, the sororitas battle sisters are some of the most lethal fighters in the universe, nobody human is racist towards another human, because everyone is hating on the xenos species, and human rights are equal across the board, because nobody has any.

Apart from changes to SoB the modern world has left 40k alone. Wokeness is less of a threat than changes to try and make the world more kid friendly. That and poor internal QC to which deprecates codices before they arrive in the mail.

Think they are just talking about getting rid of the people who don't understand satire.
