The EA degeneration?

Christ, was that childish. EA makes games that sell, becomes market leader; EA uses its cash to ensure its market position; EA continues to grow because it is run by smart businessmen; fucktards on the internet compare it to Nazi Germany because EA makes "B-" games. God, shut the fuck up, please.

Woah a smart Junior Member.

How many EA games were built from the ground up with a new game world, new characters, and a new story?

And I mean that in the same way that Metal Gear Solid, Mario, Ninja Gaiden, and Halo were.

That's the fundamental problem with EA. They're a talented developer, but most of their money has been made off the standard, status-quo packaging of other people's ideas and talents. And even with the sports genre, which the company supposedly rules, Japanese developers have bested EA on more than one occasion.

I'll start the ball rolling with Skitchin' and the Mutant League games.

I'm pretty sure a 20+ title list wouldn't be too difficult to compile. You said nothing of a time frame, so everything since their 80's PC games counts.

I liked it. EA's viral marketers can stfu. Of course we're not going to compare EA with real Nazis. On the other hand EA is the Nazi of the videogames industry. Get the difference?

Not really. It sounds fairly moronic even after reading it twice.

I'm really trying hard to think up a couple of original ideas at the basis of EA Games... Skitchin' I guess was one, and Road Rash perhaps ? Not too sure about Mutant League Football though, weren't those characters someone else's licensed IP too ?

I don't hate EA actually, I really like Fight Night, NBA Street and some other franchises of theirs, but yeah : they don't really add anything new into the mix. And a lot of people are pretty pissed about EA's proven tactic of buying up a talented developer and the ensuing decline in said developer's quality.

You didn't get it? Why I'm not surprised?

smart businessman ship or not, you can't expect people to willingly bend the knee and swallow after all the 'good' EA has done for the industry...particularly in the PC field

That's funny cause looking at the sales of EA's higher end titles that's exactly what people are doing... except for that l33t group that thinks they know what's better for the industry. I know, I know, casual gamers don't know WHAT they want... only l33t gamers do. :rolleyes

I know I'm not a representation of the industry, Darien. I also would appreciate it if I weren't grouped up with the idiots that think they are 'l33t' or 'hardcore'. Maybe I should have worded my post better, but it was in response to a particularly annoying statement regarding EA. Hell, if it makes you feel any better, I haven't even watched the flash in the first post, nor do I agree with the analogy. My opinion, however, is that EA has been a very hostile force in the PC area and whether you agree to this or not doesn't affect me in any way...nor does my view affect you. I view them as a company that lives off of sales charts and focus groups as well as a company that absorbs potential powers in the industry and shuts down the ones that under perform, regardless of the quality of their games...this IS smart businessman ship...but what the hell do I know? They have been a very successful company and I mean them no harm...hell, I still buy their games.

Don't get me wrong, I'm not saying that I value you or your opinion...just felt that I needed to express my ultimately pointless opinion.

EA delivers a product that casual gamers like. That most of their licensed content has high production values and decent gameplay should be applauded, I think. I personally enjoyed the LOTR games and thought Everything or Nothing was the best "Bond" game since Rare's N64 effort. Fight Night is the first boxing game I've enjoyed since Punch-Out, and the EA BIG line emphasising arcade play over simulation saved the sports genre for me. Stillborn games like Goldeneye: Rogue Agent (and other fourth quarter releases) have not been the norm at EA for quite some time.

That said, their behavior as shown in the NFL and ESPN deals does show a lack of confidence in their ability to compete on the basis of quality alone. I'm not going to beat up on someone for calling EA out on that. I agree with others that it also reflects an agenda to keep games at-or-above the $50 price point. EA's brief move to $30 got my hopes up that the industry would finally make the right move in order to reach a diverse mainstream audience. Instead, they decided to keep things as they are, catering to young men with few obligations and lots of disposable income.

I was hoping to see more goofy conspiracy theories in this thread. Like Nintendo, Panasonic, EA, and others teaming up to go in a "revolutionary" new direction with a standardized console format which would free EA from restrictions and perhaps inspire them to square off against the likes of Logitech by introducing their own line of input devices..........

I don't care for EA, can't remember when I last bought one of their games, but comparing them to Nazis or stating that they're the "Nazis of the gaming industry" is absurdly stupid and uninformed.

I thought the video was somewhat clever, "why are people paying $50 for B quality games"? A company with the resources and talent that EA has should be putting out A quality titles, with an occassional miss or there, but EA seems to be more concerned with their profits than the quality of their games or setting higher standards in this industry. EA has thousands of programmers and artists, why does it take several years to fix problems in Madden, why do they trickle the amount of features they include in their sports games over several years instead of enhancing a game all at once?

IMO, EA unlike other publishers, let their boardroom and financial people decide how to make games and what to put in them, so the cost is the absolute minimum while generating the highest amount of profits. The developers and game producers probably want to put out the best possible game, but I was told by a friend who worked with them that the orders come down from the boardroom to cut features and move them to sequels so they can squeeze more profits. What have they done with those profits? Looking at their income statement, they sold $3 billion in games, had $1.8 billion in gross profits and close to $800 million in income. If the money went into paying their employees better and overtime, hiring more talent, or investing in R&D so they can make the A quality games consistently, that would be something admirable. Instead, they're spending to gobble up other companies and sign outrageous licenses that elminate competition. IMO, they bring this to themselves by being irresponsible industry leader.
