The Elder Scrolls Online Tamriel Unlimited - |OT| - Console edition

So the digital version of ESO can be used on two XB1s at the same time as expected, but DLC will apparently be account-locked.

Couple questions.

1) Is there a reason to have multiple characters really? Since you can mostly use any weapon/armor/stuff (non min/max) Is it mainly for skill sets?

2) Can you have characters from different factions? Or do all characters have to be from the same faction?

1. Even so, classes play a lot different. Even a magic-based DK is different than a stam-based one.

2. You can belong to different factions with different characters.

Make great hireling decisions. Another exception to priotitizing skills over passives is to consider investing passive points into the “Hireling” nodes of the different tradeskill lines. This can be a costly proposition, as there are five different Hirelings your character can employ. Hirelings will send you an in-game mail every 24 hours containing a package of crafting materials for their related tradeskill. The great advantage of hirelings is that these packages not only provide a constant influx of crafting materials to help you level your trades more easily, but they can occasionally contain rare, epic, and even legendary upgrade components which are extremely valuable.

A popular tactic to use involves leveraging your 7 additional character slots with “hireling bots” while you level your main character. After you have completed the tutorial, any new character you create can skip the tutorial and will automatically start with 3 skill points. By creating a fleet of hireling alts you can spend these 3 points right away in the first tier hireling for whichever tradeskills you prefer. If you take advantage of this method early on it is possible to stockpile epic and legendary upgrade materials that will save your character many thousands of gold in the long run.

Later guide writer tells this in comments section:
--

Sure, this may be a fairly common question, so I may just expand that section a bit to be more clear. The way the hireling passives work is that every 24 hours when you log onto a character with a hireling passive it will generate an in-game mail to yourself containing crafting rewards. These rewards are usually just entry level materials and supplies, but can occasionally contain rare upgrade components that are valuable.

The hireling passives work per-character, not per-account. So if you make a bunch of additional characters on your account (you are allowed 8 total) these alternate characters can have points spent in hireling passives which will mean you can get up to 8 hireling bags per tradeskill per day. All told, this can provide a really meaningful impact over time.

Did they mention that your character name wouldn't be the one on display? It isn't a huge problem for me but I didn't see it, unless it was buried in some Q&A. I'm just slightly disappointed in that is all. Still very excited to play later today but I wasn't sure if it was a hugely broadcasted feature of the console version.

It wasn't but it was the same in the Beta, hopefully they can get some feedback and see what the community wants.

The amount of people stealing at the Auridon armorer store right now is hysterical

This is a very strange game to be an MMO, I must admit. I've wanted Elder Scrolls to be a multiplayer adventure for a long time, but to see dozens/hundreds of players looting a town is hilarious!

There are repercussions,right? lol.

I asked on the last page, sorry to throw it up again but just in case it was missed are GAF members going to the same place or all over?

Ah okay. That's my fault then. I didn't watch much beta footage as I already play on PC and just did the account transfer. Didn't have much desire to watch much as I already knew what the game was about.

Either way. Can't wait to get home from work and play.

20 years of mmos and devs still cant keep from fucking up with login servers. I am used to it but in all honesty this shit should never happen. Take the number of login servers you think you need, multiply it by 5 and then scale back as needed after launch.

I'll TL;DR this rather than delve into a bunch of technical derp, but as I'm sure you're all aware it's not quite that simple:

Odds are, the issue isn't even with the login servers, but rather some sort of load balancer or database and a connection limit. Something that, realistically speaking, can't be super accurately performance tested.

In most cases, throwing hardware at it isn't the solution. More appropriate to figure out what's causing the issue and correct it.

So are the NA servers running fine? Going to pick this up soon.

Yeah seems fine.

It is a bit jarring doing some quests when there are so many other players around everyone just kills any enemies on sight and there's always at least 10 people standing around npcs.

Has it been confirmed you just need one disc (or download) for 2 different Psn accounts to play (at a different time of course) on the same console.

In the same way, can I lend my copy to someone and he can play it without anything to buy?

FlyinJ

Douchebag. Yes, me.
So, the game arbitrarily creates instances of the overworld on the server as players fill up. Unlike WoW and other MMOs, everyone doesn't play on the same instance.

Does anyone know what the general numbers for world instancing are? How many people exist in an instance of the overworld?

From my time on PC, it doesn't seem like much. Maybe 200 per overworld instance?

It'll be that way for awhile till the player base starts to spread out.

Yes as it does not require a CD-Key. Check the official FAQ here -> https://help.elderscrollsonline.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/28876

Did anyone check remote play on PS4 yet? Just saw that it's supported by the game. Wonder how good it works. :) (https://help.elderscrollsonline.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/29528)

Sorry if it has been asked a lot already, but are they going to be selling the explorers pack in the future?

I ask because my friend may get it later and I'd like us to play in the same faction, but she may not like the Daggerfall races.

It's preorder only. (And imperial edition) At least it seems like this right now. (https://help.elderscrollsonline.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/4725)

I just picked game up $59 dollars physically and it came with code for explorers pack

As long as those preorder versions are in stock this might be the case I guess.

So, how's the game, guys?

Only played for a few hours last night. I particularly loved how speedy the tutorial was. I even had to do it twice because I was on the wrong server at the time. The graphics are pretty good with a solid strength in the lighting.

There's lots of options for the controls, down to the FOV and turning off head bobble. I definitely see myself playing this like past Elder Scroll games: third-person for sneaking around as well as enjoying the towns, and first-person for everything else. The running may feel floaty, but I like how everyone is The Flash - you're not bogged down by gravity as much; the actual controls for combat and UI are intuitive, compact and doesn't have that overwhelming learning curve. If you played Skyrim, then you'll recognize the minimalism.

My experience is limited in the genre (only played DC Universe Online and the FFXVII Beta), but I'm digging it so far. Map size, voice acting - it's all well done.

You could never play MMO's with partial downloads. At least not FF14.

Anyone else copy from PC and not get any achievements? I should have at least gotten the ones for learning all the alliance racial motifs and hitting level 50, but they haven't unlocked. Maybe they're just bugged/delayed like a lot of achievements seem to be lateley.

If it's like FF14, you need to do all the achievement stuff on the console.

Bleh. I made a new character on PC and left him at level 4, but did a bunch of crafting stuff on him, including giving him all the crafting motifs. If I'd thought ahead I would have just hung onto the books until after the console transfer. Now if I want the achievement I guess I'll have to collect them all again and give them to an alt.

I'm super hyped for this game. I'm waiting for my friend to get on so me and him can start at the same time.

My Xbox gamer tag is TheNeXt6 if anyone wants to add me!

are there currently any mounts available in the crown store? If so how much do they cost? Also, is there a crown store list online anywhere?

Maybe this is answered but I can not find it..

I created a dude on PC last year.. played a bit and then quit... Now I have the X1 version and my friends are also jumping in but did not have PC version.

Since I was not able to log in last night and I am now stuck at work... am I stuck with the character I created on PC and stuck in the region I picked? I did the pc to console transfer but I can not find info on even what region I picked and I am stuck at work being asked by friends what server they should choose.

Anyone that has logged in with their former PC character...... any options? Or are you just thrown into the game where you left off on PC?

I linked my PC account... I was able to select a region prior to selecting my characters. I created 3 characters on PC and they all were available. I believe there are 8 char slots so I could start exactly where i left off with my PC chars or I could create new. I don't think you can create different chars in different regions tho.

Question for PC to console players...

How does it compare to PC? How stable is the framerate. Is going from 60 to 30 jarring?Specifically PS4 but Xbox One would be of interest too (I have both).

I REALLY want true controller support, but not sure if it's worth the sacrifice in quality (especially as the PC controller mod is pretty good these days).

THANKS!

Well, I got the three names I wanted:

Wallach (my usual Breton mage I make every ES game)

Metzger (slick-looking Redguard Nightblade for stabbin' later)

Hilarius (Imperial Templar who looks like a middle aged baseball player from the late 70s)

Tried for two hours last night on PS4 to log into the US server. No go. Just tried again for 15 minutes to get in and all it let me do was register an email address and then started giving me the endless connection errors again. I'm close to getting a refund for this trash.

Why does he wear the mask!?
Arrived this morning.

I logged in under my Wife's Console just to get her all set up and no issues logging in. Game looks a bit cleaner than it did in beta, pretty impressed coming from the PC version.

Here are a few thoughts after about an hour:

1. Game Crashed about 30 min in.
2. Lots of lag in crowded areas
3. Voice Chat only with no chat box is bad. My wife which works graveyard shifts stayed up just to check it out and immediately asked how to turn voice chat off. So many annoying people.
4. Visually, pretty damn nice, seems cleaned up a bit from beta.
5. Texture pop-in when interacting with NPC's definitely improved from beta. Still happens, but not as long/frequently.
6. Load times are also a lot better since beta
7. Combat controls much improved over beta. In beta there were a lot of delays

So a little bit more explanation and comments:

Been playing PC version since PC Beta and through out the year. Always played Daggerfall Covenant and NEVER have seen this many people in the starter town in the entire time I played the PC version. It feels like a swarm of ants the amount of people that are in the starting town. Due to this there is some lag while walking around and brief pauses. I fast traveled to the next major zone called Stormhaven and there were only a few people and the game was pretty lag free. So it definitely is not performance per se, but lag due to the amount of people.

Voice chat is complete shit imho. I get why they wanted it and it is fine for those that want it, but they should of had a chat box for those that want to communicate that way. It was so annoying hearing the same person say the game sucks and that he is stuck in same area and cant go anywhere else. Now, when the guild starts going or you are grouping I am sure it will be fine because you will be with less people in the channel, but this area wide open voice chat, with people's channels buzzing, people playing music is pretty bad. Thankfully there is way to turn it off, which I did pretty quickly.

Overall, I am pretty impressed that the conversion is this solid even with some of the technical issues and the lag. Again, I have never seen this many people before, even in the PC version and the fact that it only hitched a little here and there seemed decent, although I hope to minimize the lag in crowded areas since for PVP this will be critical with large battles.

Give it a little time. As I just posted, there are a TON of people in game and like you I could not get in at all last night after trying for 3.5 hours. I was able to get in this morning however, but a friend has not yet. Just need to be patient, it does suck, I know..I planned a get together with friends last night that all went to hell because of the issues.

Nothing you did on PC before will keep you from starting a new character and playing with friends.

Server options are North America, and Europe. You can change this when you're logging in. You can have characters on each if you want. There is no other server choice, but there is faction choice. You can have characters in all 3 factions if you want, but you do need to be in the same faction as your friends to play with them.

With your friends, decide North America or Europe, and decide on a faction. You will be able to make a character to play with them whatever you guys choose. Your old PC character doesn't lock you to anything.

I'm surprised by the very warm reception this game is getting. I guess they really fixed the game or people's expectations of it changed that much, but I do recall MANY outlets chalking ESO as a DOA turd when it launched on PC. I'll have to try it out if they add a 6 or 10 hour demo period or something. Way too on the fence (and busy with Witcher 3) to play now, but hopefully they do something like that if the game has seriously gotten good.
