The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim PC Performance discussion

Confirmed, the rollback Interface BSA has fixed all UI problems with me, including not being able to:

  • Press the R Key to grab all items
  • Press Tab to exit menus
  • Fast travel on the Map
  • Finish working through the showracemenu on the console

And so on

Excellent. I'm downloading it too.

Thanks for that. Downloaded for future use.

It's pretty crazy to watch this game actually get more broken with each official patch. I only hope Bethesda manages to fix it up before they go into their NO PATCHES UNLESS WE CAN SELL YOU DLC mode.

No crashes here either. Am running the original EXE, marked as large-address-aware and have a few mods for controller mapping and better textures and ambient sounds. Even on my Radeon cards I'm getting 60fps the vast majority of the time, with dips down to 45fps or 30fps when things are nuts.

I'm really impressed by how solid the whole thing has been for me. No people falling from the sky or walking into the ground or any of that stuff. There is one dragon near Whiterun that just won't fight me though.

He was going to fight you but then he took an arrow in the knee.

I downloaded the patch. Had a crash (exit) to desktop. Disabled all my mods. Didn't have a crash. So we'll see what happens (had this behaviour randomly prior to the 1.2 patch). I had only texture mods, besides the eagle eye mod. So, it wasn't a big deal.

I did encounter a dragon, but he wasn't flying backwards. He was flying around normally. I shot an arrow at him and I was showing as "detected", but then dragon just flew away. After 20-30 seconds of flying around where I was. Didn't test any "resistance" stuff though.

Is there a file size difference for the EXE so I can tell if it's updated or not? Because I'm not seeing the version number when I launch it now, and Steam updated about 40 minutes ago, but it looks to only be 9 KB larger than it was on 11/21 (had that version of the EXE around).

That means that Steam pushed the patch, doesn't it? Crap.

STILL... :( :( :( :( :(

Whatever happens, whenever I try and walk outside of Dragonkeep (that's what it's called right??) with the Jarl to go and fight my first dragon, it just hangs on the Loading screen :/ :/

WHY ARE YOU DOING THIS TO ME SKYRIM.

Has anyone had this problem with freezing on the loading screen before?

Someone said to try just leaving it... I left it for 20 minutes... :(

CTRL+ALT+DEL and Skyrim is "Not Responding".

:( :(

I've had issues with being stuck on the loading screen, and I would CTRL+ALT+DEL , then switch back to the Skyrim window and it worked.

Yeah, thanks Maxrpg. I was just going to give up on playing until things were officially fixed but that was too easy. Now I get to play tonight!

I'm already deep in bro! It's like sex man, if somehow your woman tells you you can't hit it tonight you gotta find the best way to make it work!

lol

Anyone else's third person view this fucked up?

WTF_BETHESDA.jpg

Yes, all I do is slide around on my face like a tank. I can even do a little hop where my body levitates like it's magic. I love how the NPCs just watch me fly past their feet like everything's normal.

I'm using the old exe and interface.bsa already. I only play in this view, so this is killing me.

again do you just copy and paste the bsa to the data folder...

also do you need the old exe or just the interface.bsa

I'm very disappointed that Steam forced out the patch even though I disabled updates for the game. Thankfully, it was relatively easy to revert the game back (thanks maxrpg) but I shouldn't have had to.

Try fast traveling somewhere? Alternatively, try using the showracemenu command and see if that somehow uprights your character. No idea past that.

the BSA in the data folder, yes. Overwrite and everything.

Old EXE? If you want Large Address Aware (using more than 2GB of your RAM on Skyrim) then yes, and do the LAA fix.

The interface bsa fixes the silly shit with the R key not working and such.

I am pretty sure this shit got fucked up because of

  • Fixed a rare issue with re-naming enchanted weapons

I bet some of that fucked it up.

after the patch, i can't seem to store items in chests/dressers anymore. i can drop them though.

Edit: interface rollback fixed it. thanks Max rpg.

All of a sudden, Skyrim Steam refused to start up for me. The solution was the same as last time: Copy the 1.1 version of Skyrim.exe over the new exe file, disable automatic automatic updates in Steam and suddenly the game works as a charm again with all the mods.

It's absolutely horrible that it should be like this. The pirates has no problems since they don't get the automatic updates, stupid people like me that actually pays for every game gets screwed, over and over, with files that doesn't work.

They should make the first DLC free because of absolutely horrible post-launch patching.

I tried Skyrim on my work PC, but even though it's a great PC I saw no volumetric fog beam in the cave at the start of the game, like some effects are missing. If I go in the display menu, I can scroll down! So I don't know if some settings are just off.

ok cool the only problems I had was the with the controller. They don't work for me either. I renamed all my weapons that I enchanted, and it would keep the name I chose. Still sucks with the old interface.bsa though. I had a problem with it too, in that my shout button is X I like sprint on RB so I can't drop anything. the patch fucked it up worst though. :/Shame I hate playing online all the time, and even though sometimes the play time in steam is wrong it is more right for me than the game. I have 74 hours on steam but 64 hours on my game save. Wish steam wouldn't reset the counter when offline. Fucking updates.... Really sad when every update fucks something else up.

Just like to report that I played for about 2 hours just now and had no problems whatsoever. I have the newest patch, and there were no bugs, no CTD, nothing...

Go into 3rd person or play that part in Windowed Mode. Window mode is a cure to a lot of hang ups.

How do you fuck up a patch so badly?

Pushing patches out before they've been thoroughly tested. I assume there are people in charge who decide this stuff, as well as what resources are available in terms of development and testing.

Or maybe the structure of their development and testing pipeline is broken.

Patch downloaded for me. Other than an initial loooong loading time, everything worked fine. Until I found my first dragon was an untextured blue model.

Wow am I glad I turned off automatic updating after hearing what was happening on consoles, just incase. I'm speechless that they went ahead and released it on PC.

Well this pisses me off. When using the new 1.2 exe, my map works fine, but when I revert back to the 1.1(non LAA) version it just closes on click. Is this how they're holding us hostage from using the 4gb patch? Fuck them

You must have not got the memo, automatic updating was turning itself back on for the game even when people had previously turned it off.

So I was in offline mode earlier, decided to try turning it back online after making sure I still had my backup EXE...

Steam STILL issuing the newest patch? What the fuck?

I can confirm that it does.

Also, knock on wood, I have yet to have any problems with this update. Didn't have to disable any mods, still using 4GB/SBW, no problems at all. Hope it stays that way.

Yeah, just checked it myself.

Also noticed that they did indeed fix the bug where Y-axis sensitivity was being tied to FPS, so looking up and down would become super sluggish when you drop frames.

So at least they managed to fix some things even if they broke the game elsewhere.
