The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim PC Performance discussion

Is anyone else experienceing borked controls on a 360 pad after the patch? It seems like all my button mappings are screwed up and sometimes my confirm and interact button X works some of the time. The quest and map menus are especially hard to back out of now.

Restore your interface.bsa. In the updates section of the OP.

Yep. I lost the ability to place things in containers after the patch. As has been said, you need to restore your interface.bsa file.

So how is everybody fixing this again? I only had the LAA fix before 1.2 and it worked fine. Now it has been patched to 1.2 I am crashing every bloody hour.

Skyrim 4GB works just fine with 1.2

Also just noticed on the Skyrim forums one of the SKSE devs managed to fix the resistance bug.

Provided an explanation of how he thinks the bug came about. Seems to have been a pretty simple mistake that caused it, and he notified Bethesda of his fix too.

I am glad I was able to read about this stuff before getting home last night. Disabled my network connection and loaded Steam up in offline mode. I even went to the settings for Skyrim and it is back to "always keep this game up to date." and when I try the drop-down menu nothing happens. It looks like if I try to run Steam in normal mode I won't be able to keep it from updating, so I guess I'll be in offline mode until it's fixed.

im still using 1.1, but does anyone else have the problem that sometimes the mountains in the distance "flicker". like when walking parts of the distant mountains flicker like a texture is going on and off the mountain. Its annoying, but subtle so im not sure if its always done it. I disabled all mods and it still did it. Maybe its a dirver problem (using the nvidia latest betas)

Its likely LOD settings. Distance terrain in terrain management.

I still have this and it may be game related but it's minimal. It's easy to notice as most of the time I'm focused on whats in front of me. And it does go in and out when it does happen.

Same here. I'm using the latest beta drivers and am on 1.2.

Glad I checked this thread, and even gladder I didn't turn on my desktop PC at all yesterday. I guess PS3 users are laughing, now.

Might as well chime in on a bug I notice from time to time: has anyone else noticed that in some areas (Thieve's guild areas come to mind) the game flickers as though your character was underwater, then back on land? I can even hear the underwater sound effects going on and off, it's so odd. I don't seem to ever get it while exploring the overworld, it's always in dungeons/cities. In
the final Thieves Guild quest where you face off with Mercer and the dungeon starts to flood
it was the other way around; as the water level rose, sometimes the game would think I was airborne instead of in the water and my character would fall until the game reverted to the underwater state. Nothing game-breaking, just the only blatant bug I've noticed in my 55+ hours.

Seem to have found a new bug with 1.2, when I'm using the wait feature it will usually work properly, but occasionally it will not go through the full wait duration and then gives me the well rested buff as if I had slept.

it seems most of you with issues since patch are because of all the modding you did. I did zero modding and the patch is beautiful

Getting CONSTANT CTD's at whiterun when I fast travel to the place. I tried other cities and they work fine, I deleting the fauna mod but no luck.

I did no modding and had problems described earlier in the thread. At the very least, the magic resistance issue and the keyboard/gamepad in menus issue has absolutely nothing to do with mods. I don't know about the lighting thing, I haven't played for more than a couple of minutes since the patch came out. But from the sounds of that post, the guy said he also did no modding. This smug lolmodders attitude is kind of stupid, too.

I had read all these issues with the new patch and, before I played last night, I disconnected from my network and started playing the game in offline mode. Then I realized I didn't really give a shit since my guy has no resistance gear anyways and I wanted to be able to chat with my friends on Steam while playing (plus have my time continue to track properly and achievements and crap) so I restarted in online mode and let it patch.

Really not having any issues. I saw a dragon flying around and he was facing the right direction, no crashes or extra lag. I had a weird bug with an NPC not showing up at a quest location when he should but, looking online, it's been a common problem since day one so I just forced moved him there with a console command. Hoping the game will receive a hotfix soon for the resistance bug but otherwise it seems fine.

Ugh, after the patch I usually see 2 or 3 crashes now every hour. Thinking about giving the game a break and coming back later.

Your game is broken, but you don't realize it. Resistances are a silent break, but it's still a major break.

And, yes, your resistances ARE broken.

Also, before you ask: I didn't mod anything.

You can see for yourself. Buy Summon Flame Astronach (pretty much any person who sells spells sells it), summon one, cast flames on it. Watch it get hurt and die.

Same thing here...Steam was set-up to not patch the game for me and I even tried to put Steam in offline mode but doing that made the game loop the launcher so I had no choice if I wanted to play to leave Steam in online mode then, and this is what needs to change or it's a bug or somekind of DRM thing but as soon as you launch the game,it updated, even though I was set to not receive the updates automatically.

Played for 1 hour and didn't have any problems....the only mod I have is the Ore Vein one and that still works perfectly as does my 360 controller.

No mods. Playing with 360 pad on PC with all graphics options at their highest.

No issues whatsoever apart from the resistance bug.

How do you even tell if you have the patch or not? I see no options in Steam to check for updates, and nothing anywhere that tells me the version.

So whats the consensus on SMAA? Is it all its hyped up to be?

What is the best settings to use with it, should use use any AA, AF, or FXAA in the launcher options?

Its not full SMAA, its just MLAA from SMAA, You cant inject full SMAA with just dx9.dll unfortunately ;\

Mouse over the exe and it'll tell you the version. Generally speaking though, if you have steam running it's safe to assume you have the patch.

So I just installed this game for the first time and it downloaded the patch. Hearing all this stuff about broken magic resistance is worrisome because I made a breton for resistance ability. Is there anything I can do to fix it now?

Anyone else have a translucent Shadowmere? Mine still isn't fixed. :(

Also, ground/wall textures in cities are messed up. In Solitude, the city walls flicker between being partially covered in ivy (like they're supposed to) and being nothing but ivy. I'm getting the same issue with the dirt/cobblestones on the streets in Whiterun, for another example.

Download SKSE. See a few posts before.

You have adaptive or transparent AA on.

I added the script extender SKSE to the mods section.

Starting some dialog with one of the authors so I hope this one can be one of those convenient tools for a long time to come.

Can anyone explain how the script extender fixes the resistance bug without actually changing the game?

The link in the OP links to the release thread that the authors are using now. All I read is that that it doesn't interfere or make changes. It's worth doing to fix the resistance bugs that are not in any way small ones.

I'm just a little nervous about it breaking whatever fix Bethesda finally releases... not that I should expect Bethesda will fix all the bugs at this point.

Well, it certainly will get a lot better.

Personally, I'm staying the fuck away from any and all mods at this early stage of the game, and the reasons are evident in this thread. Your typical Bethesda release is beta grade software, and much is likely to change between release and final patch. Modding it right now is just asking for trouble, IMO.

Did they fix the companion leveling? I'm guessing no?

Last night I was doing a quest for the companions and I'm lvl 40. The bandits were one-shotting my companinion.

That's been my approach so far, but the bugs caused by patches are really wearing on me.

I'm running Windows 7 64bit (Premium Home edition) on an iMac, with the new patch. I had 3 CTDs last night in about 4 hours.

When I was pre-patch, no glitches, no crashes.

I also have no mods at all installed.

With AO on Quality with Fallout 3 compatibility do you guys get flickering at a distance with horizontal lines sometimes? Is the Skyrim version with the new drivers any better?

smug? sorry but when things like lighting etc break and everyone is modding with unofficial mods, well......

Removed some environment mod and the game worked again for maybe a hour but it doesn't even start up now. It gives me a 'memory error'.

"WerFault.exe- Application Error"
'The instruction at 0x6605394b referenced memory at 0x0000028f the memory could not be read. Click on OK to terminate the program."

Dont worry dude. I didnt think your post was smug. It contributed a lot to the thread. At least you didnt just come in to make some vague obvious statement generalizing half the posters in a thread. Keep doing your thing.

When I walk up to or by an NPC and he/she starts talking (before I've actually started a conversation with him/her), I often get a small hickup/stutter as the game loads the audio (just for the first thing the NPC says, after that it's smooth). It's pretty annoying when I'm just out walking and someone close-by starts talking. Any way to fix this (besides getting an SSD)?
