The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim PC Performance discussion

single card or Crossfire?
wondering if I should install them with my ati 4890.

Single. I have added them to the OP as they are definitely the best drivers for Skyrim as of now.

so would it be ok to ignore using the LAA fix at this point if we're updating the drivers?

No, that actually improves performance more too. Believe it or not.

And isoku, I'm def grabbing that new water mod as soon as it hits nexus. Keep us posted.

The new water is really nice. The speed seems just right.

Thank you so much, cant wait to try them later :D

Could you make the ripples bigger so they're more like waves? Obviously in lakes they would look odd if not done right but in bigger masses of water it would be awesome.

Fucking shit game...

I go to click the play button in steam and it pulls up the little start up window where it says 'Play, Options, Data Files, Tech Support, Exit' and the game will not start?

Does anyone know how to combat this shit?...

Game has been working fine with the odd desktop crash here and there.

Salam....

It would be a good optional mod. I like the current one and the new one looks even better. I would definitely try it though.

Be more specific because the launcher is supposed to come up every time to boot up the game.

The game will not start when I click 'play'. The launcher comes up but the game doesn't start.

HELP ME!!!!!!!!!!!

Steam isn't on right now so I have a copy of the modded .exe. For those of you who have gotten the old LAA .exe to work, can you tell me the steps I need to take?

Keep a copy of the old LAA exe around and replace the patched one with it once steam updates. It really seems to be that simple (for now).

Did you try clicking play?

Try and do a file verification through Steam.

I had to do this today. Whenever I'd click "Play" from the launcher it would basically reload the launcher. So I checked the Skyrim folder and tesv.exe no longer existed. A verification brought it back down and off I went to Tamriel.

It's odd that it disappeared though. It wasn't in my av quarantine nor was it in the recycle bin. It was just gone...

the water mod is beautiful isoku thanks so much.

also very glad to see the rolling back exe tip here, i was lucky enough to have all three versions.

and thirdly the new amd drivers work really well for me on a 5870, my last save was on a maintain top during a snow storm and before it was in the mid to high 20s, now around 38 so it seems to help a lot with the snow tech at least.

What is the accepted install procedure for new graphics drivers? I've been out of the loop for a while, but when RAGE wasn't working for me, a simple "Express UNINSTALL all ATI software" via the CCC uninstaller (following the procedure as prescribed by the ATI website) did not work. I had to hunt around for driver sweeper and use that in safe mode after the standard uninstall. Now I can't find Driver Sweeper anymore, I thought I got it off guru3d.com but it seems like they don't host it anymore...

*looks at the last Dennis picture* OBJECTION! The lake is showing a sunset highlight reflection when the sun has clearly gone down behind the clouds and mountains! :P

Ever since Windows 7 and WDDM 1.1, I just install it on top. Replaces everything anyhow and I never had a single problem. This is with both ATI and Nvidia. Driver cleaners and whatnot on the other hand has caused me loads of issues.

phyxion.net is the home of driver sweeper. guru3d hasn't updated theirs in a long ass time. i use driver sweeper every time and everything has been smooth.

Pretty much this, havent messed with driver sweeper in a while.

I got 2fps increase at the top of Dragonreach looking down into Whiterun. Also, it seemed like no change in performance in Markarth and Solitude.

The worse of the worse will see the least increase. In the intense overlook in Whiterun (the tree plaza), I get a 2fps increase too. Not much but I'm only doing my best to report accurate results.

I should run a bench but it's too late now. I could go back to the same locale I benched earlier but it would be too much work as I have to revert driver and what not.

I'm getting better performance now than I was with the last set of 11.11 drivers. I said it before but you will have to take my word as it is but it's between 2-18. The 18 comes from areas that were once 42-43 but now are 60. They are not as intense as cities but it's what my eye is trained to after the seemingly hundreds of times I've booted up the game to benchmark ini settings. It's not quite what I had at stock but with the water mod and amped detail via the ini, it's pretty damn close to stock ini and that's pretty impressive to me. And we haven't seen a real patch from Beth either so I'm even more optimistic. Mind you, I'm doing this with LAA and my 1.1 exe. Without LAA, I lose between 3-5fps on average. It makes a difference.

Dammit, even if I have the old .exe, and put it in my Skyrim folder, if I open Steam, is it just going to keep overwriting it? Do I have to launch the game directly? Sorry, this thing is worrying me.

The new AMD drivers got rid of the stuttering I had in the game mostly when riding the horse but no fps increase. I have a 4890 btw.

Much better water.

Time for me to be about off. I've been in here long enough without even making any more progress in the game. It's been worth the entertainment and feedback though. Back later.

Don't forget to PM me on MODS you find! I'm active trying to add descriptions to each mod outside of the ones that are self explanatory. I need to safe characters so I don't break the limit though.
