The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim PC Performance discussion

Fuck the mod manager. It's a buggy piece of crap that doesn't work.

I'll give it a month or so.

Same here. I love the idea and it's still in beta so I'm being patient. I like the organization and ease of use and the mod he just posted is the first one to give me the "file not found" error in the app.

You saying I could drop the files (in the Data folder) and the manager will still recognize them? So for the future I can do a successful uninstall if need be?

Yup that error was the final strike. The interface is pretty ugly, I've had a crazy amount of crashes and lots of general bugs and issues. Not worth the hassle right now.

Yea, no mods are DL'ing through the manager now and I get an error. I'm not dealing with this right now as I had to go like 15 minutes ago so I will simply uninstall and re install later. They better patch that up as I want to use it!

Tried a reinstall, no go. I'm out ><

Not true.

http://phyxion.net/item/driver-sweeper-310.html

Author's website has 3.1.

Please research before linking people to old, outdated software. :P

His link doesn't even contain a download, Guru3D has totally stopped hosting it.

Does Driver Sweeper 3.1 have the adware?

Also, what the F is with this game stuttering while looking at fires and candles? Fraps reports a solid 60fps, but it seems like 30fps if I look at a bunch of candles or the blue beams of light at the Mage College. This drives me nuts!

If someone could PM me with a location where I can download the original 1.1 version of the TESV.exe, I would greatly appreciate it.

So, if I was planning on picking Skyrim up over the holidays and using LAA to take advantage of my 16GB of RAM, I'm going to be forced into this new .exe/patch no matter what, right?

So I would like some feedback on my new water update. My goal was to calm the water and reduce specularity. Anyone care to test and report back?

i'm not in a position to test it out yet, when i get back home i will. Someone check Dawnstar and see if the waters flowing the right way in the bay where the ship is in the middle of the town.

The water flows towards the ship, with the mod uploaded to skyrimnexus.

I noticed these CTDs happens almost everytime i fast travel or wait (too bad i have to, since my dumb companion get stuck every few minutes).
Yep, just played 20 minutes in a dungeon and now I find I can't quick travel anywhere. Always worked fine before, never had a CTD before, even. Guess I'll wait for the next patch.

Thanks for the upload. I'm still at work, but please let me know if I have this right as a way to fix the patch problems.

1. Backup the new .exe that was downloaded with the patch.
2. Overwrite/replace the new .exe with the original 1.1 .exe file (pre-LAA patch).
3. Reapply LAA patch.

This should allow me to play the game with the new patch and keep the .exe LAA?

Correct.

And turn off auto-updating for Skyrim.

ok how do you know the version of the game... I though it was in the top right corner.... I restarted steam, and it downloaded a patch and it worked just fine....

Sounds like its being caused by the autosave (it saves during wait or fast travel). You can turn autosave off.

Um just curious, does anyone actually have this 1.2 patch? Because I guess mine didn't update after all, and Bethesda said it was coming after Thanksgiving.

I can't seem to launch the game with RadeonPro anymore, it just brings up the launcher, despite launching with TESV.exe

Thank you stealth patch :( Any workarounds?

tip from skyrim forums, right click the .exe and windows will have previous versions
saved (assuming you have system protection on, it should be unless you disabled it).

just restore the old exe

This isn't the 1.2 patch so far as I know, just a change to the TESV.exe that prevents you from running an altered version. Such as making it LAA.

But I'd kept a backup of TESV.exe when I first made it LAA, so disabled auto-updating for Skyrim and used that, no problems.

63 hours into Skyrim and the game has become unplayable... In the past 30 minutes I've CTD'd atleast 5 times. I haven't changed any settings or anything. It was running fairly stable till today. =(

when skyrimnexus.com is having website trouble it can time out the download and the mod manager thinks it has downloaded the file but it actually hasn't and that causes crashes.

Pardon my ignorance but what is LAA and why did the new patch break it?

LAA is large-address aware, it lets the game use more than 2GB of RAM. It seems to have broken it by refusing to run if the EXE is modified (at least, it gives me an error if I use CFF Explorer to re-add the flag to the new version of the EXE).

There's a fix for the LAA thing now. Someone ported the New Vegas 4GB launcher to work with Skyrim: [link removed because a better one is coming]
