If I already have mods installed and I get the manager, do I have to re-do everything? (haven't looked at vid yet)
real talk, the realistic fire mod is one of the biggest differences yet. jesus, it looks amazing. seriously stunning in motion.

I must be the only person who prefers vanilla art direction to all the super saturated, technicolor, blue shift crap people are doing with fxaa injectors and "enhanced" shaders.
But at least there is something for everyone.
awesome list.
Are there any HD 4850 users who are using the Skyrim Better Performance mod? I went through the 600 comments at the site and only 3 ppl mentioned the 4850 specifically. One guy said it was a big improvement while the other 2 said they lost performance. I can get high settings at 1080p already, so I'm not dying to mess my game up with a broken mod which is why I'm asking around first on this one.
Woah, hold up.
So that FXAA injector thing has never worked with any game. Now I'm reading instructions on one and it says back up the original file. None of my games have d3d9.dll in their folder. I'm running admin with all files revealed, so what's the deal? Something different for Win7 64bit?
I want to try the shaders and a lot of these other graphical tweaks but the game doesn't run that amazingly for me anyway. All high and out of settlements I get mostly 60 fps but in settlements and especially cities I get 40-45. Markarth beats the shit out of my machine all the way down to 30-35.
Nexus mod manager although it is quite buggy. You could also sign up for an account there and "track" each mod by clicking the binoculars button. How are you guys keeping track of updates to mods you've already installed? Is there a more efficient way than just bookmarking the pages and opening them all up every so often?
Okay, well time to try this "performance enhancer"I definitely don't have that file either in my install directory so you should be fine, you could always just run the Steam verify game cache option if you've deleted anything accidentally anyway.
That sounds pretty good to me... Most mods won't make much difference.
2 more screens to illustrate and repeat some points about my config. And I went with 4xSSAA, hardly a difference in fps, gonna stick with that for sure.
Random shot I liked. As noted a few posts up, pretty game is pretty.

I know this one isn't the SKyrim "welcome to" poster image but the distant details are what I love. Right above my ret, you see the mammoth that you wouldn't see without added distance LOD.

I really liked the look of enhanced shaders, but it took away my 60fps.

I learned to care less about that as long as I'm above 30. Yes, it's not as good as constant 60 BUT the game does look enormously better with tweaked settings and mods.
I don't mind the 30fps but the mouse acceleration is ass with lower fps.
Improved rock and mountain textures. Going to try this out shortly.
I figure tiny stuff like improved food and faces/bodies won't do much but how does the water and fire upgrades run? I'm only working with a gtx 470 on the settings I said earlier.
Same here. Most people end up making the game's already awesome colors look blown out. I'm waiting for someone to make a really pro looking shader/color mod that makes things look incredible without worsening some aspect of the picture or losing the original art vision.
The game's colors are a little washed out to begin with. If anything some color and tone adjustments help give the art a shot of life.

The colors in vanilla look a absolutely fine on my plasma. The weather and time of day makes a big difference - looking slightly washed out at times makes sense sometimes. All these shader makes make everything far too saturated.

Couple of shots I just took. Not using FXAA or injectors, just stock with high res textures + realistic fire mod + water mod.
This probably sounds stupid, but for the best quality do you put all the sliders to the right or to the left? (e.g. fade)
SLI and CF do not fully scale. Not for everyone at least. This game is still a WIP with many improvements to come.Ah finally. The iPhone GAF app works again.
Anyway, I ordered parts for my new rig. My crappy laptop that I've had for four years died. I should have everything by Wednesday.
My rig consists of:
i5 2500K (probably gonna overclock it @ 3.8)
(x2) GTX 560s (1GB each) ( my mobo supports SLI, so if course these bad boys are getting bridged.
16GB RAM
1 TB HDD (will get a SSD at some point)
I was wonderinf if I will be able to run my CPU at a higher speed. I'll have air cooling, which is why I'm hesitant about making it 4.0 or higher. Oh and going with 750w PSU as well.
Lastly, Skyrim supports SLI, but hiw is it? For those who a dual card setup, how is performance and how well optimized is it?
Ini post
Yeah....default enhanced shaders mod looks pretty awful.
Shit dude, I copied your ini settings and holy shite, it looks awesome, particularly the distance of people etc. Thanks for that.
Edit: Actually the only problem I see, is the ground sort of gets darker as I walk along, like it's loading more detailed ground but too close. Any ideas?
That doesn't really look like an increase from 1024 to 4096 textures to me.
I also notice that the mod is called "improved" rather than "high res"....
To the right
Is there a fix for the crash to desktop? Happening regularly and it is fucking annoying...
Try adjusting the shadowdistance to 6000.
