The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim PC Performance discussion

I found this in the comment section on nexus.
"Destroys my frame rate. Using a Dell XPS 17 laptop. I run the game normally on High settings with AA turned off and FXAA turned on. I get around 30-35fps at 1900x resolution.

When I toggle this on and off, I go from the 30fps above to 5-9fps.

I have confirmed I have the latest DirectX by following the link.

I have tried versions 1.2 and 1.3.

Load times are unbelievably longer - so much so it almost appears the game is hanging if it were not for the tens of game hints that I get to watch.

The laptop has 4 i5 2.3GHz and NVidia's GeForce GT 555M.

I realize this is a laptop, but it's a gaming laptop and, again, without this mod I get great performance.

Suggestions please? It looks great when I toggle it on. I'd love to be able to use it.

Thanks!"

I'm pretty much in the same boat.

When Im using the injector my FPS completely crash. I thought there wasn't supposed to be a performance hit? I'm using preset 4 by the way.

That's extremely weird...

Try using the settings posted in the OP.

Find this line:

bool highQualitySharpen = 1; //0 = Disable | 1 = Enable

Change bolded to 0

Or just disable the Pre-Sharpen filter

When I'm in Skyrim, the game freezes for a few seconds every couple minutes. Is there any fix for this? I have the latest drivers.

Windows XP
Core 2 Duo 6850
GeForce GTX 460
4GB RAM

this is the 4gb skyrim mod right?

i just tried it too and the same thing happened to me, i was getting a consistent 60 fps prior to modding and it dropped to 50-55

How do you guys get the weight command stick through saves, i upped mine a bit and every time i load my save i need to run the command again.

What command did you use to set your carryweight?

player.modav carryweight 700
is how I increase mine to 1000 from the default 300.

Anyone else get a green outline/glow around their weapon? (no its not an enchant)

Most noticeable on a Bow, and only occurs when there's a light source near by, I've lived with it up until now but its a bit annoying.

I'll try grab a screeny later.

I get that whenever I try to force AA in CCC. I'm now letting the game handle AA and the weird outline went away.

Does it work with Skyrimnexus DL's? I think I will wait for the first patch on the manager before deciding to give up on it.
You mean the mods from Skyrim Nexus? Yes.

It works with all mods. The only downside is that it doesn't tell you when an update is out.

Also, I can't get it to work at all haha

edit: got it fixed. The mods were packed without their necessary parent folder. I had to add some mods to a 'texture' parent folder as it doesn't work without it

Yes I had that in a dungeon I visited recently. I'm running the game's normal 4xAA. It struck me as odd, but it didn't really bother me...

Yea guys this is a Bethesda Elder scrolls game. You're going to get shit like glowing bows, red water and invisible dragons, at least in the short term.

I think I had that happen once, in some falmer cave; haven't seen it happen again since.

Any other useful commands not in the OP, PM me. I have almost of them but I know I've added more even after the OP was finalized.

question about console commands, do they screw with steam achievements?
They do not. I used some console commands and got an Achievement five minutes later in the same session.

Using the Script Extended, does, however, prevent you from getting Achievements - as it bypasses Steam entirely.

I've had a dozen CTDs during gameplay today, after never having a single one before that patch released.

I'm already using the 4GB LAA launcher, to no avail. GJ Bethesda.

Any help will be appreciated.

hmm, i have not had a single CTD on this game. i'm lvl 16 currently. using about 5 mods. running the 2500k, 560ti and win 7 64.

The food mod looks good, but Beth actually did some research because the apples look just like the species of apples that grow here in Norway.

I'm having a problem. When I enage in conversation with NPCs the volume of their voice drops to the point where I can hardly hear what they are say. Anybody have this problem? Any fixes?

I have a 6990M AMD card

Is there a mod that makes it so your companions actually keep up with you? Its so annoying when they are constantly lagging behind you.

Erm... that food mod doesn't look very good. The only item that looks better in the 'after' image is the wheel of cheese in the foreground. Everything else has a more natural texture in the 'before' shot.

Are there any controller mods with 8 hotkeys out there that let me reconfigure things in game? I like the features some of the ones I've seen add, like auto run and what not, but hate the authors completely redid the controller layout.

I have a 5830m and after putting the AA and AF down to two and trying to setup radeon pro, I'm getting about 21-24 FPS in the opening.

Which Radeon Pro guide should I use for this graphics card? What do the people in the 48XX etc. group do with the advanced tab settings?

My problem with a lot of user created 'hi-res' texture packs in general is they have to stuff as much detail in as possible and make sure it pops out. Things are overly sharp and there's too much contrast, and when put together, it's so much detail popping at me it starts giving me a headache. It's fine to make rocks that don't look like they're made of sand or wooden planks that don't look like they are 1 million splinters ready to stab you.

It seems like we are getting closer to having a usable inventory!

Been following the progress of that in the Bethsoft thread.

The guy who has done all that is also sharing his work/findings with other people in the thread, unlike one of the UI mod authors on the Nexus forums who isn't willing to tell anyone how he's got it working.

OK, there is something wrong with the character movement in this game. It's driving me crazy.

Basically, there is now a rather annoying choppiness to all character movement regardless of framerate. If I'm getting a perfect 60 fps it should be smooth, but it's not. When looking down and walking around there is a jerkiness in the movement reminiscent of a lower framerate. Obviously, when slowdown DOES occur, this movement becomes much jerkier.

What's odd is that this problem wasn't really apparent when I first had the game, but in the past week this has become a problem that has prevented me from enjoying it as the game NEVER looks smooth even when the framerate is perfect.

What exactly is going on here? Is there a fix? Did the patch break something? I'd love to see this resolved but it's not really an easy thing to communicate.

Are you using the ENB injector mod? I get that when I use that. Reason I'm using the FXAA Post Process Injector
with Kyaws settings, ty Kyaw :-)
and not ENBs mod. (prefer the look of ENBs mod though)
