The Evil Within 2 |OT| "Something not quite right"

Holy shit, this is currently the top most viewed game on twitch with 120k+ viewers. Releasing it on Friday the 13th was a genius idea. Plus the fact that there are so many games coming out soon means streamers are gonna want to finish it early so the can move on to other games.

Is there an easier way to kill enemies? In the first game you could just shoot them in the legs and then burn them. I haven't found anything like that here.

If they take a knee they'll be open to melee strikes, and if they fall on the ground completely you can press A to stomp them.

fucking youtube recommended vidoes, they spoiled the final boss for me and i didn't even fucking play the game yet

is there a way to filter out The evil within 2 videos on youtube ?

Literally just had the same thing happen 😭 watch out people! Like that'd be the damn thumbnail.

This game is going to put me in the hospital. I enjoy scary/atmospheric games, but holy shit sauce I'm not handling this well at all. Paused the game and went for a cuppa 3-4 times now.

Played the game a bit before work. I heard horror stories about trying to run this game at 1080p 60fps so I decided to just cap it at 30 and run it on ultra. It feels and looks so good. Very glad I went with the pc version of the game.

Not really liking changes made to Seb's personality. Something seems off about every vocal line he had during the intro.

Small question.... do ennemy reappear if i go into a safehouse? Been exploring the first area for a while and found and killed a lot of things!

Want to be sure before i go back, i have some area left to explore

Also i opened a garage with an electric switch (guarded by two zombie behind a door), but there's nothing inside except a closed door and an oil barrel to kick (meaning there will be ennemies), but i didn't find anything to do there, and no other entrance (still the first part of union)

It feels like the game is constantly trying to load... stuff before every encounter, I get weird stuttering but no actual proper frame drops every so often

Real quick guys. Me and buddy are planning on plaything this together. Should we go PS4 or Xbox? Is there a significant difference between the versions performance wise?

Still not happy about no PRO support but my friend is going to pay for it so.

Pro with Boost mode seem the way to go

Only up to Chapter 2 done and I’m already sold. They’re really playing up that classic Silent Hill type of mind-bending, psychological stuff over the first game’s splatter horror vibe and it’s right up my alley.

Animations are straight garbagio though.

I watched a few more reviews and I’m definitely sold now. The art direction looks just as strong as the first game now that I’ve seen more footage. A few story-related questions though:

Are Joseph, Leslie, and Ruvik in the game? I was under the impression that Ruvik succeeded in taking Leslie’s body at the end of the first game and escaping STEM. And Joseph didn’t actually die did he?

Wow, this is awesome. I hope it overperforms expectations.

I just picked it up. Hope there aren't any significant patches. Would try for a marathon this weekend, but the state fair is on...maybe I'll have enough time to do both.

5hours in and still in chapter 3 lol. Slowly going through all houses to find stuff and going back to safe house everytime I make little progress through the map.

I am really liking the exploration aspect but the combat feels really heavy and slow and I don't really like that. Especially when all enemies seem to be super fast compared to first game. Also there seems to be lot of inconsistency in combat. Sometimes I can do a stab after shock and sometimes I can't and I can't really tell what causes it.

The caffeine probably ain't helping.

The hitbox on the axe is generous to say the least. I panic attacked with it as three enemies were swarming me and it managed to kill all of them.

Maybe you're just good at it.

It may feel slow because you need to upgrade Sebastion, there are upgrades that make you move faster when aiming, have less sway, etc...

fuck, Nightmare is brutal. Had no problem playing the first game on normal, and that's the difficulty it recommends for people like that, but I'm barely scraping through every encounter.

Looking through upgrades and cant see any that makes you faster while aiming and I am only missing the third sway upgrade. So doubt it is that.

Not a fan of how Camera Speed affects aiming speed as well.
Got the camera where I want it. But it makes Aiming Practically Impossible.

I wish I could be this scared playing games.
I don't even understand how it's that bad for people. This reminds me of the RE7 thread.
Just to put it into perspective I did find PT scary. But I dunno I think as soon as guns are on the table you can't exactly make a full-on scary game. At least in my eyes.

Pistol walking speed is under the reload upgrade tab for some reason, worth grabbing.

Also crouching speed is a must, default speed is a joke.

I don't really feel much fear anymore in games unfortunately, the
church
scene in chapter 3 is probably intense as fuck for some people but I thought it was more cool/funny than anything.

Is this game actually scary, unlike TEW? I'm on the fence on this one, just saw it popping up the xbox store, but honestly, would never consider the first game horror at all. Gory? Hell yes, but horror? Not a single part of it induces any sense of dread.

Also any performance issues on xbox that i should be wary of? I could get the game on PC if really had to, but i'd rather play on consoles if it's not totally broken

If you weren't easily susceptible to scares in the first game. This second game isn't going to change that. Since it's more of the same in that category.

awww boo

into the "waiting for a sale" camp it goes then

Does the story rely pretty heavily on you having played the first Evil Within?

No. It does have some references to events and characters tho.

I'm on Ch 13. So far TEW is more scary than TEW2. Make that what you will.

Anyone miss the aesthetic of the first game? For the first two-thirds of the game at least had a gothic-medieval look to it and I much preferred that over small-town America.

Yep. The atmosphere is a huge downgrade compared to TEW.

Yeah that's a good point.

Big time, miss it very much.

Saw someone say the second half of this game is closer to the original but I haven't looked myself.

Is the Aimming stability upgrade still a must?

Haven't invested in that yet.

I was meaning to buy this later at no more than 49.99 but this thread, the positive reviews and how much I enjoyed EW1 made me go to the store today and buy it full price (it's 59.99 in stores)

Tango and Bethesda, please keep this series going.

So hyped ^_^ it's around 8:00 PM in Europe and I am about to insert it into my PS4.

Like I said previously in this thread, the first game had a very surrealistic look and bits of it were quite Lovecraftian, all of that is completely lacking in the sequel. TEW2 is basically discount Silent Hill in terms of atmosphere and TLoU in gameplay...which is a great mix and quite fun, but it's not as unique and creative as the first game. For instance, you could take most of the enemies in this game and put them in TLoU and they wouldn't feel out of place. What I'm trying to say is most of them look, sound and move like infected rather than some sort of nigthmarish creatures that you saw in first game. The common bog standard enemies even sound and move like critters.

Although there are still some instances in this game where things can get quite nice and creative in terms of design but they are far and few. Still, I'm having more fun than first game I don't particularly enjoy games where I have to run and hide too much which I had to do a lot in the first game.

Probably asked before, but do you have to have played the previous game? I tried it but I thought the performance on my PC was just too bad to continue playing.

On chapter 3 and running around the hub, is that tredwell trucking area supposed to be completely pointless? I restored the power and opened the garage and there’s nothing but a locked door inside with a light cue shining over an invulnerable wood plank off to the side.

Yep. This is a much smoother and cleaner game but the general layout of the environments don't draw me into them like the first game. Definitely some interesting stuff happening in the art house area but once I got to Union I felt disenchanted from a lack of unique visual identity. Not finding the monsters or look of the town very interesting.

You need to
progress the story

8 hours in and up to chapter 6 now, and I love this game.

The setting, the semi-open world sections, the combat, the crafting and upgrades, it's all so good!

And to think I'm only 1/3 of the way through.

Okay people saying this is a "western shooter" - what does that exactly mean?
What difficulty are you playing on? Was RE4 also a "western shooter" to you?

Very brutal, it's like a dark souls with guns n' shit. Fighting 2 enemies at once is a huge fucking problem.
