The Evil Within: Every Last Bullet Trailer

lol my reaction too. Doesn't seem like this person knows what he/she is talking about.

At the beginning of the year if you told me i was going to buy this , Alien isolation & Middle Earth i would have called you a crazy person. Now i have all these games pre ordered.

Also i can't tell if ViewtifulJC is trolling at the moment or not.

Well, it's true that we can't be sure about how Slasher will feel about the game when he plays it, but the factual claims made by JC about Slasher's post history regarding this game are plain for anyone to see.

Just to add something on topic: I am going to buy this game probably. This trailer didn't really show me that much of what I wanted to see, and I was disappointed to see the emphasis on run-away-from-guy setpiece and hide-in-closet-gameplay, as I expect those kinds of things to be the low points of the game for me. They were what made me so skeptical about the game from its earlier showings. Still, it was great to get a nice quality video of the game's final (or near final) assets. Lots of jaggies, but if the core gameplay is a good mix of deliberate tactics and impactful shooting, then I'm not going to complain about that.

Uncharted was one of my favorite new IP of last generation and I was highly anticipating it. It hurts MY brain that out of everything I critiqued you point out the one that isn't really debatable.

You have runners, stalkers (who are barely different from runners), clickers, and bloaters (of which there are what... three encounters with them?). And then you have melee and ranged humans. And one deer.

If the game was half the length it wouldn't be an issue, but over the course of 20 hrs the enemy encounters became less and less exciting. Good level/encounter design might have mixed things up a bit, but those situations were rare, outside of Ellie's chapter. But that whole chapter had it's own issues anyway. But alas, I don't want to derail the thread any further. So... Back to TEW haha.

you're actually serious aren't you? Wow. I weep for you, cause you missed the point in grand fashion. blame yourself (or god) for thinking TLOU was an action platformer or RPG where enemy variety on any other scale would make or break the product.

Yeah. I like chicken sandwiches and tacos.

I don't understand that at all. If there is somehow a message in TLoU that we aren't getting or haven't gotten yet then I'd love someone to point it out immediately. I saw clickers of every single sex and the age difference between Joel and Ellie is just storytelling. That's the ballpark I'm in at the moment. "It didn't matter" and it was collective. RE is the same way.

The school kid who can barely lift a 200 lb man versus the guy who can probably pick up the back end of a vehicle in retrospect.

I'd bet there are people out there who'd think we are killing infected school kids. I just don't think it goes there.

I haven't played RE4, but I have played TLoU, which is a recent gaming using the same mechanics. Mentioning RE4 really only highlights that the mechanics are rehashes, but if that works for some people that's good for them.

There is nothing wrong with the mechanics, however, after experiencing them I don't feel they are selling points for me.

I didn't know that, and it doesn't necessarily change the point.

I don't disagree with you... in fact, I found TLoU to be an overrated experience that ended up being mostly the glorification of torturing women. Don't confuse me with its fanatics.

so what you're saying is you've never played the game in your entire life? You barely know eff all about it judging from that statement.

Never doubted this game. Nope not one bit. Love me survival horror. Now which version PC or ps4. Do we know if the current gen is running at 60 since it's idtech5?

I heard ammo is incredibly scarce in this game. I hope its not too limited in supply. Keeping ammo supplies restrained is good, but an outright dearth of ammo could get annoying.

What is all this nonsense about a Mikami game not being honoured as Game of the Year even before we get to play it?

I could come home on launch day, open the game case and find a turgid piece of dogshit in there instead of a disk with flies buzzing around it and everything. Then Mikami could walk into the room and cash in his IOU favour from RE4, game of the decade, and force me to vote that piece of dogshit as my GOTY if he so wishes.

.

I don't hide those facts either. Though to claim I'm already proclaiming it my GOTY or that I'll have rose tinted glasses when playing it is a bit absurd. I did say it probably will be my GOTY but why wouldn't I assume that is a possiblilty as I love horror games? It's this, Alien, or 1 or 2 other games most likely that I've already played that will be candidates for my GOTY.

The idea that an ALL Mikami production is automatically NOT a possible Game of The Year is more absurd to me. Dude's just trolling at this point, probably salty that a RE4 successor came out before a Halflife 2 one.

Listen, Slasher, there's absolutely nothing wrong with how excited you are for The Evil Within, nor is there anything wrong with how much you're hyping it up on these forums. I love it when I can get that hyped for a game. I think the thing that's irking myself and some others in these threads is the dissonance of you posting things like "I told you so" gifs, "GOTY" and other hyperbole, then turning around and claiming you'll be level-headed and objective when it comes to discussing what faults the game may or may not have when it releases (though I have to imagine posts like these will make you more conscious of trying). It's not absurd in the slightest to suggest you'll be playing The Evil Within with rose-tinted glasses, it would actually be absurd to suggest you'll be playing it without them.

Anyway, that'll be my last post about this silly, minor issue that only a person like me who spends too much time on the Internet would care about. As other have suggested, there's really no point to this discussion until the game is actually out in two weeks.

Slasher has faith, and who wouldn't, given Mikami's near-flawless pedigree? This is the man who founded the survival horror genre with RE1. This is the man who gave the world RE4. This is the man whose previous all-Mikami work was Vanquish, one of the greatest third-person shooters ever.

Slasher expects to have his faith vindicated, and I don't blame him. Everything about this game looks extremely promising. To be honest, I don't expect much of the gaming press to "get it," since it looks punishing but doesn't have "Souls" in the title, so I foresee the tough nature of the game taking many by surprise and knocking down the scores. We'll see.

At any rate, everyone reserves the right to give their own verdict, once the game's out. If anything, I'd expect a horror fan like Slasher to be more picky with these matters, so who knows, maybe it won't live up to his standards, even though he loves what he sees so far in the pre-release cycle.

Me personally, it will come down to variety and pacing, the trademark strengths of a Mikami production. Vanquish was actually a little light on variety, in terms of settings and enemies. Here's hoping this is an RE4-style return to form.

I'm struggling to remember ANY part of TLoU that involved "torturing women," let alone glorifying it. What are you even talking about?

If I was claiming it WAS going to be the best game ever, or THE best game this year, or that BEST Mikami game ever made. I could see some of the worry about my judgement. Yes I posted those "I told you so" gifs and if it turns out damn good it will be true. It's also in good fun. Regardless of that though, I am coming at this fairly level headed. Even if I LOVE the game, there will be no doubt flaws and I will point them out. I don't think any game is damn near perfect, and I usually try to cover those in my video reviews. Yes I'm excited, yes I'm pumped, it's been years since we got a Mikami horror game, how could I NOT be? But I'm not giving it a free pass in the slightest even if my hype for it appears to be. Nor am I going to quell my interest and excitment on a forum simple because people think I'm going to think it's the best game ever. I think people are having a hard time seeing the difference. I'm not blind to issues nor do I turn the other cheek.

I wouldn't worry too much about it, this is a game worth being hyped about. Anyway, you don't strike me as a blind fanboy but just as someone who's genuinely excited and having fun with the whole pre-release thing. There's a difference here and you really don't come off as annoying imo.

The game is no doubt going to have some technical flaws but I can't wait to see all the crazy scenarios and encounters that Mikami and team have cooked up for this one. 2 weeks!

What version is the trailer taken from? Everything looked more clean and the lighting seemed simplified.

Also PR departments should just mention "coming to everything save the Wii U" for the sake of brevity XD

Yeah, idk. I like how the guy with an avatar dressed up as Gordon Freeman is giving people shit for changing their avatars to look like characters from a different game.

Why do people even care so much? It's just a bit of fun for game we're excited about, made by a guy who is known for making quality games. Either it will be great and we'll all be happy about it, or it will disappoint and we'll get over it. It's not a big deal.

And you, Sir, have been in all TEW threads, more or less trying to derail them or discredit an individuals excitement for the game.

Sounds like ViewtifulJC, was wondering when people were going to speak up about it.

Slasher, don't sweat it man. People are generally negative so when they see someone being overly positive towards a game that makes them angry.

Elements of gameplay are never irrelevant when discussing a video game. Just because TLOU is aiming to tell a realistic grounded tale doesn't mean it is immune from criticism about having weak gameplay.

What I hope is that this game will also give us some hilarious youtube reaction videos with some hopefully semi-genuine fright (ie. not the fake pewdiecrap). I haven't seen many good ones since Amnesia: TDD

I'm not impressed by this trailer, Evil Within seems visually the same as it has been shown in the past, and I don't believe there's justification for the quoted 4GB video memory recommendation based on what I've seen. I believe the PC version of EW will be a disappointment and it will also be outsold by Alien Isolation for PC.

Well, of course, Alien sells on the brand alone. Colonial Marines charted #6 on NPDs for the first month it released (Feb 2012). Not that Isolation won't deserve the sales it gets, rather that it's pretty much a foregone conclusion it will outsell TEW regardless of port quality, visual impressiveness, or other such variables.

I can't blame you about the PC port of Evil Within, though. By the very nature of my SLI setup and iD Tech 5's refusal to play nice with it, I decided on PS4 long ago. I sucked it up for Wolfenstein, because of my stark preference for Mouse/Keyboard in FPS.

There's also more to games than graphics and sales.

Well said,

"When some wild-eyed, eight-foot-tall maniac grabs your neck, taps the back of your favorite head up against the barroom wall, and he looks you crooked in the eye and he asks you if ya paid your dues, you just stare that big sucker right back in the eye, and you remember what ol' Jack Burton always says at a time like that: "Have ya paid your dues, Jack?" "Yessir, the check is in the mail.""

I don't even know why you're mentioning this. You may want to start from the beginning and try commenting about what I'm actually defending.

I'm expecting this to be Resident Evil 4-good. Releasedate kinda snuck up on me too, can't believe it's out next week already!
