Every console manufacturer should take extreme measures in gate-keeping games on their consoles, and should openly sign exclusive content rights with 3rd party publishers, and porting to PC or competition shouldn't even be on the table (i.e. M$: fumbled the bag big time, Sony: In the process of fumbling the bag, Nintendo: Rather good regarding this till now).
I'll leave this here...
Can someone cut off this guy's thread posting privileges
No they fumbled the bag by losing out on being a proper competitor in the console market because of their poor decisions. Profits are going to increase regardless because the game industry is growing rapidly, and they own a ridiculous amount of game studios. Sure they have profits but they could have had exponentially more. People get pissy because they're greedy and want everything on the system they own, without thinking about the long-term ramifications on how it will affect the market. If fumbling the bag means posting record revenue and profits, sure that checks out
Because it puts pressure on all the platform holders to be innovative & be competitive when trying to keep people playing on their platforms.
Controllers & Quality of life features will be at the forefront.

Buying payroll is secondary because even before people were barely buying Xboxes, and the poor decisions I mentioned include the Xbox One reveal. Sony just started to port games to the PC just recently, while M$ has been messing up for nearly a decade. If PS continue like this then who know they might be in the same position as Xbox by mid PS6 cycle when there is literally no more reason to buy it anymore.I'm talking about Sony. They have ported nearly every Ps5 exclusive to PC and are still selling a ton of consoles and posting record profits. MS is in a different situation because they absolutely buried themselves in payroll from buying publishers.

Actually they are the most innovative and forward thinking out of console makers.Yeah, Sony's so innovative these days.

Long-term thinking my dude.
Gaming was better with exclusives IMO.
Every platform has reasons to play there, and you could get very different experiences on all of them.
I mean in terms of games. That's exactly what I'm getting at. Going into the next generation Platform holders will try to give us a different experience when playing on their platform.
2020 was 5 years ago. I said Sony might be in trouble if they keep going on this path of releasing games on PC in 6~7 years, because with every release they diminish the reason to own the console. No they didn't. HZD cane to Steam in 2020 right at the start of the PS5 gen. It hasn't affected the popularity of the console at all.

Actually it's related because we can play our games on the toilet now because we are no longer tied down to the home console.Hell yeah brother, I love playing my Switch on the toilet.
…wait, that's not what you meant?
If you find yourself unable to step away from a game, even for something as basic as using the bathroom, you might be facing some serious issuesActually it's related because we can play our games on the toilet now because we are no longer tied down to the home console.

That's maybe even more troublesomeNot really about not being able to step away from a game. Sometimes you just want something to do while you do the do (do)
There is actually TVs /displays made for the bathroomThat's maybe even more troublesome
Why some people spend more than five minutes on the toilet is beyond me, though I understand there can be medical reasons in certain cases
But it's not my life![]()

Fuck that. Anyone who does this is gross. I have zero respect for you. You're dead to me.
Eh? I must be tired because I've read the OP 3 times and I have no idea what they're talking about.

Don't quote me on this but I would never make a thread just to quote later .It is about game streaming. He has been on that kick lately. But really this is about creating threads that he can quote later.
I fundamentally disagree that consoles will stop existing anytime soon. I was speaking more so for the case of Sony and M$'s survival in the console game. Technology usage has become more ubiquitous but ironically technological literacy has stagnated due to how streamlined modern day devices are becoming. There are 100s of millions people in the world that don't have computers, will never have computers, and are just fine with a console/laptop/smartphone in their home. The console would be determined by the features, marketing, availability and its exclusives. I also don't buy the AAA argument because Nintendo exists. If their console can only sell because of exclusive software, than their custom-made box sucks.
The reason they're porting is because the big AAA game budgets are unsustainable for one console platform, and they need more of the market...while larger AAA devs will decline permanent exclusivity contracts because they're not getting enough being on just 1 platform anymore (Ex. Square Enix). The ones that will accept the contract will be less reliable in quality, because if they're good why not release everywhere?
Consoles have other reasons to buy them, but if exclusive software is it then they're doomed in the long-run.
Playstation still has exclusives?Only microsoft/xbox are doing this. Playstation and nintendo still have exclusives and will have exclusives for the switch 2 and ps6 as well.

I don't think consoles will stop existing, but I don't think holding on to exclusives will matter much in keeping Sony or Microsoft relevant in the long-run. The move to slightly custom basic-bitch x86 boxes goes away from consoles being truly distinct custom hardware with unique features that alter how you play, and the 360 + PS3 were more unique devices from each other beyond exclusives. Nintendo is the only one keeping that going with a unique form-factor they popularized, and distinct control methods vs. Dual Shock 5's only slight immersion boost with adaptive triggers. It's just pushing graphics per dollar for the 2.
If they can't do unique hardware or services, Google, Apple and Valve will collectively eat them with their other benefits.
M$ are already going the way of becoming a second Sega, but I don't agree that it diminishes the significance of have exclusives that are gate-kept to your console to have people buy it. If new comers enter the console business then they also would have to play the exclusivity game, and I see that as a good thing for a healthy competitive market.Thats literally a gaming console made with modern day technology.
And following this logic the answer is yes; if all you needed was enough capital for some minor designing and marketing then there can absolutely be a bunch of new comers flooding the market over the next few years. They would need cool looking designs and competitive prices; essentially commodifying gaming consoles into what modern day smartphones are today.
And just like smartphones, the big boys (Samsung/Apple > Sony/Nintendo) would hold the lion's share of the market, but it doesn't mean they would have global loyalty, and competitors will certainly come up with creative and unique ways to entice players into buying their consoles instead.
MS Gaming record profits? where? If fumbling the bag means posting record revenue and profits, sure that checks out
This.
I'm in and out in around 5 minutes. Most of that time is spent on the clean up operation.
Also, my shits are huge, always pop up out of the water and stink. I'm not going to sit on the loo playing games while my ass is being warmed by the steam of my shit. Not to mention I'm probably going to get poo particles on my device.
Fuck that. Anyone who does this is gross. I have zero respect for you. You're dead to me.
Yes, but we haven't been tied down to the home console since the PS3. PS4 and XB1 also both had remote play. In 2017 I was playing No Man's Sky on the stationary bike at the gym. You aren't wrong per say, but we are going on nearly a decade where this has been a feasible thing, and it hasn't changed how developers are making their games.Actually it's related because we can play our games on the toilet now because we are no longer tied down to the home console.
