did Bush just say that the federal government should balance its budget? where was this the last 7 years?

Holy shit, why are they giving him standing ovations?

On the subject of taxation, and the offering of sass like the above, why are Republicans standing and Democrats sitting and scowling?

Hrrrrrm.

I wonder.

People just come in this thread to bash bush but not comment on what he's saying? Wow gaf, yea he's a idiot, but you look just as retarded.

I'm wondering what programs he's looking to cut, 151 programs.. If I heard that many correctly. And no Tax hike!

Because the Democrats believe is fiscal responsibility. Go ahead and deny it but history proves it.

the text of the speech has been available for hours, so there's no surprise here. if you also think the final year of a lame duck president engenders any sweeping legislative change or agendas, well, haha.

Because the tax cut really had such a super positive effect, right?

Wow.. Hillary looks like she did the day Bill said he never had sex with "that woman." STONE FACED.

Yay to fewer earmarks. Boo to war!

No I dont, its just stupid to come in here just to turn this into a joke thread instead of discussing whats being talked about. The same ppl lol @ him are the same people who bitch about whats taking place.

shhh, dont bring that up, we should all praise the man that wants to talk a big game 7 years in, people are discussing, like umm... where was this YEARS ago? Why all of a sudden, when you know nothing will get through in the last year are you going to say all of it?

State of the Unions are absolutely worthless whether you like the president or not. Watching them is a complete waste of time which is why I'm not.
It interesting to what things they bring up and what things they ignore.

But yeah, they are 95% just noise.

as i read that i looked up to Pelosi blinking three straight times in under two seconds.

Why does she blink so often? I tried to blink once for every time she does and there are times when you can't even see anything.

Medical decisions made in medical offices, not the halls of congress! How about getting the insurance companies out of the decision making process?

"No one can deny its results..."

Didn't NCLB get... left behind? I thought it got little to no funding after being passed.

something i learned a while ago - welcome to gaf.

NCLB is garbage, isn't succeeding, and needs to be reformed badly.

When he said "the results can't be denied" about No Child Left Behind, my gf, who is a teacher, let out a snort and shot soda right out her nose.

Guess she's not a fan of spending just as much time testing as she does teaching nowadays...

well ya, but it is funny. I mean its the closest thing we have to watching the House of Parliament in our own country.

In 2012, the world will be at an end, but the budget will be balanced.. Thanks Dubya!

This way when the new President fixes the crap Bush started, in 2012 Bush can then take credit for it saying "See what I did...I told you so".

I'm not sure what history you're using or what you want it to prove, but there's at least two aspects of fiscal responsibility, and neither the G.O.P. or Democrats have been consistently good at the balancing act.

Individual members of each party have been better or worse than the average, I suppose.

Hrm, flow chart: Am I paying less in taxes (Y / N)? Y. Positive effect!

Lower taxes are fine. Now why's the spending so high?

What are you talking about?
No Child Left Behind Act
Organizations have particularly criticized the unwillingness of the federal government to fully fund the act. Noting that appropriations bills always originate in the House of Representatives, it is true that neither the Senate nor the White House has even requested federal funding up to the authorized levels for several of the act’s main provisions. For example President Bush requested only $13.3 of a possible $22.75 billion in 2006.[42] President Bush's 2008 budget allots $61 billion for the Education Department, cutting funding by $1.3 billion from last year. 44 out of 50 states would receive reductions in federal funding if the budget passes as is.[43]

Can you imagine how boring this is for Cheney and Pelosi? Just sitting up there and staring into the crowd.
