The Finals (Unreal Engine 5 FPS) coming to PlayStation 4 on December 12

Those long posts don't cover that red neck boy
Per Gematsu:

Embark Studios will release a PlayStation 4 version of free-to-play multiplayer first-person shooter THE FINALS on December 12, the developer announced during The Golden Joystick Awards 2024.

For those who wander what the game is about:
Come out on top, reach THE FINALS, and win the hearts of the viewers.

In THE FINALS, nothing can stand in your way. Crash through walls and ceilings, destroy anything and everything in sight, and build bridges and barricades in this fast-paced, high-stakes fight for fame on the world’s biggest stage.
THE FINALS may be a team sport, but you’ll fight for individual glory too. Build your contestant with a wild combination of looks, abilities, accessories, weapons, and gadgets.
Trap and surprise your opponents with a range of dynamic tools scattered throughout the arena. Send exploding canisters of gas and goo through the air, burst through windows, or drop fire from above.
Use moving platforms, ziplines, jump pads, and more to create treacherous and unforgettable moments. Take out your enemies with garbage cans, flowerpots, office chairs, and hospital beds.
Only your imagination sets the limits.

Personally, this beats out Splitgate 2 which is also targetting PS4 (and XBO) in 2025. There have been multiple UE5 projects on last-gen, but none yet of this size. There is no news known whether or not a Xbox One version is on the cards, but i am curious to see how the PS4 stacks up aswell as the PS4 Pro (Which is where ill be trying this out) with Unreal Engine 5 in this high framerate shooter.

The best part about this is the boost in player numbers. Still playing the game most days. Fantastic shooter that so many have slept on.

Im guilty of this, I have had it downloaded since release byt never played yet. Im away this weekend but going to give it a good go next weekend. Im more of an old school shooter fan myself but like the look of this.

Have they added a team deathmatch mode?

I didn't understand any modes, that were available at launch.
  • Kill opposing team, take the money you get from their bodies to your vault. When you die, you lose any money you're carrying. Team with the most money at the end wins.
  • Money boxes appear at random spots in the map. Take them, and put them in the bank. Team with most at the end of the match wins

2025 and we still speaking "PS4 Port"...

Man, this is a truly sacrificed generation.
Best console build (PS5) in the worst industry era...

With PC & Series S in the mix it's almost dumb not to port games to PS4 with over 100 million sold.

I like this approach with the older consoles getting the games later because it's not hurting or slowing down development on the new consoles.

lol, nah, this game flopped.

It sound like they are just adding this to grow their install base, but I think its a bit too late for something like this. If released off bat on all platforms, maybe, but this late after release? I don't know about allllllll that lol

Game is really underrated and I need to play it more often.

Only issue is the garbage teammates I always seem to end up with, and I guess now having to wait for PS4s to load.

The people saying the game flopped probably played for 5 minutes and got their ass kicked and moved on in a huff. I'm still playing the game most days here in Australia and you get games within a minute, even less with cross play on. Think I'm up to 600 hours played (something like 2600 matches played) and I've spent like $15 AUD on the game for the very first battle pass, which then gives you enough for the next battle pass and some left over. Great game with friends, well worth checking out if you have any interest in something that excels at team work and gives you options in how you can play.

Pay them no heed, they revel in their ignorance. It averages over 20k CCU (PC + Console) and it seems to be growing steadily the past 4 or so months. Season 5 is right around the corner LETS GOOOO!

There are 17k just on Steam, would be well over 20k in total as I know there are a lot of players on console too. I mean people reading this thread can either a) listen to someone that has a lot of play time in the game with first hand experience on how the game plays and how it's been doing over the last 12 months or b) go to the circus and listen to the drive-bys that have never had any interest in the game anyway. At the end of the day it doesn't matter a fuck to me, I'm going to keep enjoying the game into the foreseeable future. I just don't like misinformation being spread about a solid and fun ass game. Looking forward to new season in less than a month.

Last ditch effort to save the game before it dies?
I don't think it will help them in any way. Because they are making a port to the console, which already has all those free shooters that they couldn't compete with on the PC, and they absolutely won't be able to do the same on the console. In fact, it's a death throe.

See above :messenger_tears_of_joy:

Alright I'm off to play. Have at it!

Just really curious how a UE5 title with a bit more budget scales to last-gen.
Here everything depends on the hands of the developers, as far as I remember Fortnait PS4 is exactly on Unreal 5, and it seems there were no special complaints.

I say the above as I remember a lot of hype about this pre release and then shortly after launch haven’t seen or heard anything about it. I just assumed it’s another live service title headed for the grave.

Love this game, I can get into matches quickly so I would say population is no problem right now.

The game runs fine on PS5 but I bet they will lock the FoV and make it run @30 fps with dips on PS4.
It will also lose some of it's aesthetic without all the bells and whistles of current gen.

What's with all the "dead game" commentators? You all should at least get a warning, those post add nothing to the conversation, why even enter the thread?

So this released a few days ago so having a PS4 Pro, gave it a whirl and compared to footage from OG PS4.

  • Both OG and Pro are 30 fps. There is a option to uncap framerate. It is with dips, esp when putting up barriers and debris.
  • Resolution Pro ought to be 1080p. OG PS4 is like 720p
  • Reflections are primarily SSR, no RT (obviously). Shadows are pretty blurry
  • Lighting still looks good so the game holds up. Having that Mirror's Edge aesthetic helps with the game.

Overall its pretty alright. Whats funny to me is that Blacklight Retribution is still available too. So PS4 somehow is able to run three generations of Unreal Engine.

Four generations, there are some Unreal 2 games on PS4 like the Bioshock remaster for example.
