The Game Awards 2014 Thread: Keighley unveils, less McHales

I think it's a 7/10 show. I gotta give it to Geoff man, that was a huge get with Star Fox confirmation before Zelda release and new Zelda footage.

It's an awards show and I try to think of it from that perspective. They had the awards, it was a more respectable presentation of them, and the announcements were bonuses.

So all in all... Geoff, I hope you made money from this and can try to keep refining it next year. Really, good attempt and you should definitely be proud of your Zelda get.

so starfox comes out before zelda but couldnt show a demo of it..........yea one of these games is getting a 2016 date.

First half: awful

Second half: a real tearjerker. The Williams, Zelda, Kondo and that band. Got pretty emotional after that.

That's as much as I can say. I didn't care about any of the reveals tbh. Good for DA: I winning tho.

Edit: Still MUCH better than any VGA/VGX ever. Keep it going Geoff. I enjoyed the 2nd half quite a lot, as I said.

6/10. Lots of room for improvement, but second half is a great jumping off point if there is another one. Sierra was the high point.

I'm talking about the majority of games that try to use the gimmick ... not the one or two titles that actually can get it right ...

But Zelda Wii U is the topic of discussion right now. If Wind Waker HD does it right why wouldn't Zelda Wii U do it right?

Just imagine the giant world with all the stuff you traditionally associate with Zelda...great music, characters, gameplay...and then get excited :)

I'll take all the great things I associate with Zelda minus the giant empty world and then be excited.

This is the best video game awards show I can remember. It wasn't perfect, and they need a new audio team but there was a good mixture of awards, reveals and most of the music didn't suck.

The show was a good enough first start, but expect them to learn a considerable amount from this outing and apply it to future game awards.

It was alright. I really hope Geoff takes some of the money he spent on "celebrities" and hires a better production team for next year. A lot of the screwups made the show look so amateurish.

Basically the only new game that was shown that we haven't heard about that I actually gave a shit about was King's Quest.

No Fallout 4...very disappointing,

Despite the no megatons, the show is an improvement.

I want to be able to give geoff proper feedback of how bad this whole thing was.

Oh come on, the dude tried. It wasn't all bad, in fact I enjoyed the last hour a lot. For the first go at it on his own he did a pretty damned good job and he'll learn a lot from this. The problem is people being all pissy about the heartwarming segments and wanting more trailers for DLC get listened to the most.

VGX was not great but this was not better than the VGAs.

i'm sorry, what?

this had no jonas brothers or felicia trying to stick their bodies up a wall or something.

come on. the show was great. rough around the edges but for a first outing it was great.

hopefully next year will be as great if not better.

Oh c'mon, Geoff wasn't even close to being the problem. For the first year, it was solid. Get a better production crew next year and we got a stew goin'...

He's about as enjoyable an interviewer as wiping my ass with with sandpaper is fun to do.

He's dry, bland and tasteless. Letting someone with some personality do the hosting would have instantly been an upgrade. That said, it was great as-is. Haters can hate, but I enjoyed everything I saw tonight. Granted I missed the comedians, but what I did see I really enjoyed.

Overall this was a good first outing for Geoff, needs to work on the pacing and getting the awards handed out properly on stage, cut a lot of the fluff and special guest hosts. Maybe a few less musical guests. Definitely has potential though.

AND DAT SLOW MO EPONA DISMOUNT.

3 hours of fat that can be condensed into 1 hour of awesome.

That's my criticism. The good news is that there was indeed some awesome in there. Also please focus on the awards more and nominees!

Well, that was the first time I've ever seen an attempt at a games award show that wasn't insulting, pandering and embarrassing.

I actually thought it was pretty well done.

Except for that huge group of people in front of the stage who couldn't be bothered to change out of their pajamas when going to an awards show. What the hell was up with that. I guess they had to keep that gamer stereotype going strong.

Yeah, kudos to Geoff for this. Much better than anything Spike and Gametrailers have given us.

There was obvious issues with the pacing of everything but clearly shit like that's gonna happen during the first ever show.

I see why people are a bit mad abot the Zelda U segment, I get they wanted to show off the Gamepad but Picture in picture would have been the better way to set it up.

That was easily the best video game awards show I've seen to date, hope to see it continue for years to come. Good job, Geoff.

Just imagine the giant world with all the stuff you traditionally associate with Zelda...great music, characters, gameplay...and then get excited :)

Have only played console-versions of Zelda games so when I started playing ALBW, I felt restricted in my movements and how to defeat the bosses in the game. Can't wait to get back to playing Zelda on the console and seeing things in 1st person perspective again!

Decent first show and much better than the mess that was last years award show. Second half was a definite improvement over the first half.
Bodes well for the future.

I thought the show was very well done. Extremely long, but it's a first time. Will look forward on how they improve on the show next year.

Geoff did a good job. Fix up the tech side of things, work on pacing and clean out the last few remaining awkward bits and next year should be great.
