Because the Oscars do it, and the whole idea is to make something as close to the Oscars as possible.

To my recollection Oscar musical numbers are usually songs from the movies being nominated, though, so in that respect it is a little silly.

Ubi Soft is like the only major third party publisher that actually does regularly fund and push new IPs.

Watch Dogs was their last "big" new ip and it pretty much played EXACTLY like Far Cry/AC games.

Valiant hearts was the only one (I can think of) that was a recent new ip that was good and didn't play the same.
