I've gotten used to the new uniform look, but all the toys seem to do an awful job of recreating it. Rather than looking like a repeating pattern, it's like they're wearing thick knit sweaters.
All 6 movies are out in blu-ray in may as well.DrForester said:
Damn. Hope to see TNG/DS9 on Blu-Ray as well.DrForester said:
Not that it sounds like they'll be the theatrical versions rather than the Director's Cuts you can currently get on DVD. Can't get the double dip without going with the originals first, I guess.Cheebs said:All 6 movies are out in blu-ray in may as well.
Star Trek The Experience at the Las Vegas Hilton closed its gates for final time last September, but soon after TrekMovie and the Las Vegas press reported that talks were under way to find a new home in downtown Las Vegas at the Neonopolis center. Now the manager of Neonopolis is talking about opening up in time for the new Star Trek movie in May, TrekMovie has done some double checking to see how doable that is.
What is happening in Vegas is staying in Vegas
In the last few months both Las Vegas Mayor Oscar Goodman and Neonopolis manager Rohit Joshi have spoken openly about the move of Star Trek The Experience to the Neonopolis business and retail center in downtown Las Vegas. The latest comes in an article in the Las Vegas Sun. In it Joshi states that there is now a signed contract with CBS and that he hoping to open up the first phase of Star Trek The Experience on May 8th, from the article:
"The Star Trek Experience is slated to open May 8, the same date as the movies premiere. The experience will be introduced in phases, with the simpler (and less costly) components, such as the food and beverage, retail and museum to be rolled out first. The entire experience, including rides and an IMAX 4D component should be completed by next year."
Joshi also says he hopes to have ticket prices between $20 and $25 (much less than they were at the Hilton) and he is expecting it to attract 7 million visitors a year (significantly more than were visiting STTE at the Hilton).
All of this sounds great, however, to date, CBS continues to refuse to comment or even confirm that there is a deal in place with Neonopolis. Both the City of Las Vegas and Neonopolis have a vested interest in attracting businesses to downtown Las Vegas and so they are being more open, but there is an element of self-promotion and it is likely their take is a bit rose-colored.
According to sources there is a tentative deal in place but that many of the details are yet to be finalized. Also TrekMovie is told that any opening in May is optimistic as is Joshis comments to the Sun about a Trek star-studded gala premiere for the Star Trek movie. There appears to be no Star Trek The Experience construction going on at Neonopolis and that the signage for ST: The Experience is still at the Las Vegas Hilton, where they extended their close down until the end of February.
Return of STTE looks good - but not finalized
As of now it appears that Star Trek The Experience is very likely to reopen (in a number of phases) at Neonopolis some time in 2009 (with May be the earliest). The first phase is likely to be just Quarks Restaurant and Bar and some shops and possibly the Museum of the Future. The full experience with rides would be in 2010, but the nature of what those rides and 4D movie are is still being worked out. It is expected that once all the details are nailed down, CBS will finally make an official announcement.
I've watched the series four times now, and it's just as good as I remembered the last time I saw it (except for the first time because everything was knew).CiSTM said:Currently rewatching DS9 and I have to say I'm tad disappointed. This show doesn't hold too well on a second watch through I knew there was lots of bad/medicore episodes in the show but I didn't remember that first and second seasons were almost unwatchable. Second season does have some very good episodes but even they weren't good as I remembered.
Now it's season 3 time.

Oh my god, that packaging is so much better than what we got in America.
Also, new license plate (for my nearly two-month old car)!

And, Cheebs, thanks for starting a new thread for the next trailer.
The first one was taken, don't know about the second; should've checked. My mom has "NCC1701E" as her license plate, but she wouldn't let me use it. =(DrForester said:Now everyone knows you're a sucker who liked Voyager.
NX-74205 (or NCC-75633) is what all the cool license plates say.
JoshuaJSlone said:So has anyone else been reading Star Trek Countdown? Some pretty weird stuff in there, and I mean aside from how they've used a few TNG characters.A nova that not only travels at faster-than-light speeds, but is somehow dangerous enough to threaten the entire universe? Romulus considering a war on specifically Vulcan (rather than the Federation in general?) as a method of getting the technology they need to survive more quickly than diplomacy? Vulcan actually choosing to doom Romulus by not helping?
For most of this century the books and comics have had pretty free reign in the 24th century, and they've used this canvas in a pretty big way. But the pre-time travel stuff puts another canon event in the 24th century. At latest the events of the books are still a few years before the events of Countdown, though. I wonder if they'll make some shifts over the next years so things are closer to the state of Countdown, try to put a different spin on the pre-XI events, or... something else.

Wrong. They, too, were filmed on film. Post was done on tape. (NOT VHS. Only a complete imbecile would have used VHS for television work.)dalyr95 said:Dax, we'll probably never get TNG or DS9 on Blu Ray, they were filmed on VHS therefore the max resolution you can get off them is 640x480, unlike TOS which was filmed on film.
The originals are gone, only the tape edited versions used to add the sfx remain, at least that is what has been reported.lunarworks said:Wrong. They, too, were filmed on film. Post was done on tape. (NOT VHS. Only a complete imbecile would have used VHS for television work.)

Meaning the chances are still pretty much never. Even if they are magically found then they will have to re-edit EVERY episode since the editing was done on tape. And have to redo all the fx due to them being on tape as well.
Aka if they are even discovered it would take endless amount of time to do the work, meaning it won't ever happen.

AMUSIX said:Wow, no mention of the recent appearance of the entire TNG cast on Family Guy?
Ok, OK, I know Family Guy gets a lot of hate on GAF, but this episode was hilarious, mostly due to the star trek bits. And they really got everybody (including Denise Crosby). Unfortunately, the episode itself has been pulled from Hulu, and from FOX's site, and from everywhere else, but a few clips are still up...

The function afterwards is "cocktail dress code" .. what is this? A suit and tie?? I will feel way out of my comfort zone dressed like that around Spock and Kirk, how important do people think it is to follow this dress code??? My plan is to look good but not wear a suit jacket, just a jumper or something. Will i get away with that?

Suit and tie is proper. Depending on what time of day and where it's being held, this can range from a look like this:Fix The Scientist said:The function afterwards is "cocktail dress code" .. what is this? A suit and tie?? Season one is bad. Picard, Worf, and Data are the characters that really carried the show.syllogism said:The first season is pretty terrible and I usually even recommend skipping it completely
Dax01 said:Bernbaum, make sure you move on to DS9 after TNG.
In every way really, most notably the script and acting. Season 2 has some good episodes but overall 3-6 are easily the best seasons.Bernbaum said:Oh good. In what ways does it improve?
Bernbaum said:Oh good. In what ways does it improve?
Most of the people behind BSG are from DS9 (including R. Moore). I look forward to your impressions of both series.I've heard that audiences were split over DS9. From what I gather, I'll probably like it, given that it has episode-spanning story arcs and a genuine military conflict that lasts for a while.
Yep. Season 2 does have my favorite TNG episode ever though, Measure of a Man.syllogism said:In every way really, most notably the script and acting. Season 2 has some good episodes but overall 3-6 are easily the best seasons.
"blind guy" was pretty terrible in season 1, in season 2 when they make him the chief engineer he really improves.Bernbaum said:The main crew I feel are pretty well-acted. Blind guy with visor is pretty inconsistent and occasionally acts in ways that I don't expect, or feel appropriate for a particular, although he'll probably be better defined in later episodes. Worf at the moment comes off as very flat and unemotive, just constantly staring around the deck in confusion.
The acting for the background characters is just plain bad.

Gary Whitta said:With a couple of episodes as exceptions (Measure of a Man as said above), Season 2 of TNG is pretty bad. Working my way through it currently and the writing is really sophomoric. Pulaski is awful.
As a rule of thumb, TNG doesn't start getting good until after they change out of the bargain basement Starfleet uniforms into the proper ones with collars. I believe that's Season 3. It's like the first two seasons of Frasier - if I'm channel-surfing and see Frasier with the shaggy hair or TNG characters wearing those cheap-ass bodysuits I just keep right on moving.
