The Giant Bomb Quick Look Thread 2

I hadn't been paying attention to the Wii U at all, so I was pleasantly surprised to see them in action.

Still not enough to make me get a Wii U, though.

NSMBU is just so disappointing to me. Maybe it's because I played NSMB2, but this could be so much more. 2D Mario can still be interesting if Nintendo choose to invest in it. Imagine if Wii U launched with Super Mario World 3... all-new art style, all new levels and thinking. It could be amazing, but instead, we get U.

Quick Look was a fun watch, though, and five player looks like the clusterfuck I expected.

Won't read any reviews till I write my own, but I knew they'd be up and down while I was (and still am) playing it. Suspect critic reviews will be lower in aggregate versus player reaction on this one.

I'm watching the ZombiU Quick Look now, the game I was least interested in, but their being so receptive to it makes it seem the best game so far.

Patrick, I'm confused. You guys are supposed to meet in the Doritos Vault and then all decide to give the same scores to games.

Instead, ZombiU's scores are the most diverse range of numbers I've seen since the election ended.

Well when moneyhats aren't involved you do tend to see a far more diverse slate of opinions for all but the very best top-tier titles.

Yeah, I really hope they break away from the NSMBU style very soon. It was cool the first time, but (for me) it's just wearing out its welcome.

New console, new art style, come on.

It honestly seems like a misalignment of expectations. It seems some people were seriously expecting a more action oriented game who wanted to kill everything as opposed to just being taken along for the ride.

As far as experimental, mid-tier, new-ip, survival-horror first-person games go, ZombiU looks pretty interesting.

ZombiU looks meh. An interesting thing or two in there, but I don't see myself ever picking it up.
Patrick and mines don't mix, apparently, haha.

NSMBU. Yeah. That looks like one of those games. Man, Vinny was spot on with that constant pausing being annoying. It was frustrating just watching it happen, I can't imagine trying to maneuver around with that happening.
The "Fire, Bro" looked really cool. I mean, yeah, it's just a challenge thing, but that looked much more interesting to me than the main game stuff.
The attempt to climb the castle wall with brad's platforms was great.

That's a good point. We need more good mid-tier games. Game budgets being always either colossal (AAA) or scrounged from devouts can't be healthy.

I do appreciate Brad and Patrick's enthusiasm, because they tend to give Nintendo more slack than Jeff and Ryan do. And even if I am way more on the non-WiiU bandwagon it's still refreshing to see people excited about a new console being out. One of the reasons I come to GB besides the hilarity.

I'd buy a whole game out of that Luigi's mansion thing.

Also ZombiU looked like tons of fun, but other than that everything else looked pretty meh

man all y'all baggin on nintendo land or zelda are being grumps

it gives me wii sports resort vibes in terms of content and quality (especially since that one Zelda game was literally one of my favorite WSR games but super pretty) and WSR was Dope As Hell, so
I don't know, man. I don't know.

It really seems to be hit or miss and the whole package falls somewhere between Wii Play and Wii Sports [Resort]. Again, probably should come pre-installed instead of being full price.

ZombiU seems the launch title to get, if any.

I forgot about that, yeah, no, we don't do that.
I used to have mine in the bathroom. Not in the UK, though.

Sorry if this has been answered before, Will the livestream be available to everyone or just subs?

I'm calling mission accomplished on Mario. Those guys can say what they want, I know what a bunch of guys having a blast playing a game sounds like. That QL was a whole lot of laughing and surprised noises.

I can tell you right now, even with all the cynicism and boredom surrounding the title's reception: if you're going to play it together with 3-4 people, you're going to have a good time.

I agree with you. It made my interest level in the game rise considerably.

Not played Mario yet, so no opinion one way or another, but what you said applies to just about every local co-op game on the planet.

Even Jeff's cold heart was warmed when playing Mario Chase and Luigi's Mansion. He says he doesn't like those asymmetric multiplayer games but I could hear the fun.

NintendoLand looks like a very mixed bag. Wasn't liking the look of the early games, but the Luigi's Mansion one and the Chase one looked like a lot of fun. Don't think I'd play them that long, in the grand scheme of things, since I tend to play games by myself, but it would be a fun amusement for the first week or two of owning the system.

Glad Ryan called out the computer being a knock off of LOG from nuts and bolts. I did a double take when I first saw it, and thought the same thing.

The Mario chase is just a game lifted from Mario Party.
