The Google Veo 3 AI video generator now incorporates sound. It might have crossed the uncanny valley

Too many people just have zero reaction to AI in general. Do I not get something? This seems unreal. So it's Bullshit?

Imagine buying a new smartphone and "browsing the web" but unknowingly just "scrolling" an instantaneous AI created live video-like feed with everything and anything on it.

The 'lip sync', if you can technically call it that, is a bit off, and there are some quirks here and there. But when it works, it really works.

Here's a 5-min compilation of some of the stuff being created in the past day or so:

I'm slightly pessimistic about what this means for the future of TV, film, news.

Edit: and any kind of conversation that takes place remotely - audio or video. People are already getting scammed after being convinced they're friends with a celebrity. That stuff will be crazy in about 3 days.

It just doesn't really affect peoples lives yet. Trillions invested in it but still nobody really knows if it good for anything big.

Hollywood won't be able to sue anyone because there won't be a single person employed in Hollywood within our lifetimes.

Crazy stuff. See so many people online quick to point out imperfections who seem to be in denial in general. Still see people thinking every AI photo of a person will have the wrong number of fingers (when it's actually getting rare with several models.)

Impressive and scary stuff TBH. I really don't think humans should have created this shit lol

If that "La Forge stunt roll" post is made by AI, then we may as well just give up know, that was a damn good post and I was looking forward to the discussion it generated :P

The video I posted of the honor 400 can create short videos out of photos. It's baked into the photo app. I'm sure it's coming to the Google pixel. It is Google tech after all.

Holy Shit.

I can't imagine what life must be like 1000 years from now with how quickly things are moving in the Ai space. Fuck me

Only thing I'm certain of is that I'll be happy having been long dead

I would like it to make some videos of my mom.
Watch the video the guy has some old photos of his mom turned into short video and the crazy thing is those photos weren't even taken on the phone. They're old photos. Sorry was trying to timestamp but I don't know how just skip to 9:00

We're edging closer to a reality where AI helps keep humans divided, truth will not matter when every split off community, political followers, cults, etc, can show their own truth with ease to their respective bubbles.

No longer will people allow themselves to be corrected, they'll just use AI to generate their truth and believe that.

My biggest worry of this technology used to be that AI will become so advanced that it can create films, TV and general art so well that they'll be no need for humans to create.

That's still a worry.

However, you've pointed out an even bigger concern. People could use this tech to create their own truths, but it can also be used to manipulate others. Imagine this being used by politicians or crazy political fanatics.

We're fucked.

I suspect we'll see the first fully AI-created feature film within 5 - 7 years.

The most impressive thing in that video was the dual streamer/video game perspective, because the AI had to make sure that not only the streamer looked real, but that the game looked as close as possible to the game being described.

This is already being done. All you need is a short clip of some politician saying whatever your particular cult echo chamber wants to hear (Trump saying "All Indians are dirty" for example) and it will reinforce their world view and give them confirmation bias that they 'chose the right side'. Don't really even need to try to convince or swag folks on the fence even, just solidify your base such that they won't even consider voting against you.

Or just have 100 shoddy AI versions of an embarrassing incident so no one will believe the real one. This happens already, consider how many idiots refuse to believe Oct 7 footage and think its fake.

Credibility in institutions and individuals is probably irrevocably gone. Journalism and public service are totally disgraced activities now.

Can wait to chose the actor I want to see in different movies
Also to be able to generate movies that wont ever happen, like The Silmarillion

I'm all for it. Movies / shows has been shit for years. Getting tired of streaming, now I'll just prompt for what I want to watch. All streaming services will switch to this type of model. I'll be mostly interested how to run this adequately on personal/ open source hardware so I don't get gouged on prompt streaming subscription fees.

Now I don't need to wait years to watch a book! Woohoo!

This is crazy impressive. The growth just keeps on impressing. Love it.

Yep. It'll be incredibly difficult for any political campaign to be fought. There'll be disinformation that'll be created by people with real skin in the game who'll benefit directly from pushing a particular version of the truth, but also from individuals who just think it's funny to make a video mocking an individual candidate, organisation or it's supporters.

There'll be "leaked" generated conversations where people say they don't care what [insert people like you] think or that [thing you don't like] is the best thing for your country.

There'll be generated video of a candidate doing something really weird/unpleasant while their staff look nervous around them. Etc. Etc.

Some people will lap that stuff up, because it'll be done to play to people's prejudices. Other people will be skeptical of everything, meaning that some won't believe the legitimate content created by people speaking sincerely.

It seems so obvious to me that this will be one use of this tech that I'm surprised that governments around the world aren't trying to work out how to legislate against its use. Unless they've already concluded that it's pointless to try. And to some degree it obviously is. Even if you somehow limit American and European companies doing this, other states will see an opportunity and the same content will just be made somewhere else.

Essentially, they ought to just give AI the keys to the nukes now and get it over with.

Extremely scary times ahead for many reasons. But In terms of disinformation.. We're already so extremely cooked. Most people believe any random Facebook post saying the most obviously untrue shit that's easily fact checked... Imagine these videos...

This is day one. If you don't think on day 1200 (there's about 1200 days to the next presidential election) that you'll have seen better versions of this telling you something or other about who to vote for multiple times and that at least one person you know will have been fooled by that, then I think you might need to reassess.

That's just what we need, more overly animated people, like my doctor, I don't know what he takes but acts just like those people in the video.
Not sure what your intention was but this sentence is hilarious. Took a real twist there in the middle.

Yep, We'll just stroll in from work and say "computer, make me a new episode of Friends / the Golden Girls / M*A*S*H* / I Love Lucy..." and the box in the corner of your room will connect to the giant data centre 10,000 miles away which will kick into gear assembling a show, pumping out the tonnes of CO2 necessary and 15 seconds later you'll be watching 90s era Jennifer Aniston tell Gunther that actually it was him all along that she loved. Later on, Ross tells Joey that he's got a problem with his monkey and Chandler overhears with hilarious consequences.

I did see this slightly related take on the subject that felt appropriate though (apologies for the first line):

Ignoring the lip sync issue, I'm floored that the videos are all AI generated. Those look like real people being interviewed.

This is going to have a huge impact to the gaming dev world. Now even small devs can produce top quality cut scenes. I wouldn't want to be in the industry that supports gaming cut scenes right now.

Looks fake as fuck

What? The video looks impressive as fuck. Some sync issues with the audio but considering it's generating voices on the fly.

I said 5 years we'll have full movies being generated, I think I need to wind that down a little.

Everyone else, start retraining your job is about to become redundant.

Something looks off. I can't point it out exactly.

Edit: I mean I could if I did an intensive shot-by-shot, but I'm on my way to work and have a lot to do.
