Tombstone is right up there too.
Foreign Jackass said:This thread is missing some The Searchers and Red River love. High Noon could also be mentioned, although it's not "really" a western, but a superwestern. And Shane, maybe?
Willco said:This is not the BEST WESTERN topic, because if it was Outlaw Josey Wales would win hands down.
border said:This is really the Greatest Movie Debate? Doesn't seem like it.....almost everybody seems to prefer Tombstone, to the extent that it's hardly a debate at all.
Rio Bravo is more "light-hearted" than both Red River and The Searchers. Of the three, it's more "fun" to watch. However, in terms of a "great western", I'd put both Red River and The Searchers over Rio Bravo. It's a bit of a toss-up between Red River and The Searchers for being the best western.Foreign Jackass said:I might just rent this Rio Bravo thing tonight, then.
Foreign Jackass said:Anyone has seen Open Range? It got some good reviews, some great, and some pretty bad.

Federman, you're in serious danger of squandering all the goodwill you've built up with me over the past year. Serious danger.
I like Wyatt Earp better almost because it's longer and more detailed, not necessarily the more factually accurate.Willco said:I always get a handful of historical buffs that get their panties in a bunch that Tombstone is too Hollywood and Wyatt Earp is more accurate!
Hmm. When I see "Greatest Movie Debate" and "Western Edition", I'm naturally going to assume that, you know, the greatest examples from the genre are going to be included.Meatpuppet said:Joke post? It's pretty clear from the thread that this isn't about best western, just which of those two westerns is better.
(Unforgiven with the Sergio Leone Trilogy close behind it)
Yeah, apparently it is the movie debate that is great. Not a debate about the greatest movie. Confusion abounds...bishoptl said:Hmm. When I see "Greatest Movie Debate" and "Western Edition", I'm naturally going to assume that, you know, the greatest examples from the genre are going to be included.
