As someone said before, "I fear not the man who has practiced 10,000 kicks once, but I fear the man who had practiced one kick 10,000 times."

"the greatest speedrunning achievement of all time" is something that's been proclaimed more than once over the years. Still an impressive achievement though and Suigu deserves all the praise.

Also, what an embarrassing first page. Being highly skilled at something like speedrunning doesn't prevent you doing other, fulfilling things in life. My favorite speedrunner, Oatsngoats, is a Super Metroid record holder, plays piano and last year completed an ultramarathon (31 miles).

Just imagine if he'd put all those thousands of hours in becoming a pianist, learning a new language or anything else that's useful in later life. Dedicating your life to speed running is wasting your life.
Dedicate your life where you are best at.

He could become a pianist, sure. But he would probably be just another unknown pianist, especially if the only reason doing it was to "not waste time".

Ins speedrunning though, he is the king now.

dont really care about speedrunning, but alternatively theres a dude who's basically rewriting all mario64 code and is getting ~10x the performance on original n64 hardware (skip to ~3:30 for claims)

friggin fascinating

I paid good money for this Dynex!
I remember the Siglemic days of speedrunning SM64 - that was a fun time. It was also before Games Done Quick got so unwatchable and full of complete weirdos.

Anyway, this is pretty cool. I haven't really thought about Mario 64 speedruns in years.

I watched a couple of videos, fun stuff. Him cracking up like he won an oscar after getting the zero star WR was funny but I won't hold it against him.
