The hacker known as 4chan has been hacked and possibly murdered

Notorious internet forum 4chan was hacked on Tuesday.
At the time of writing, 4chan's website was not loading, and users on social media reported the site being intermittently down for hours.
Messages on a rival message board, which TechCrunch has seen, celebrated the hack, with one person claiming that the hacker responsible for the breach was inside 4chan's system "for over a year."
Several screenshots showing what appears to be 4chan's back end circulated online, showing the site's alleged backend, source code, and templates to ban users, which would only be accessible to the site's moderators. Also in the leaked data was a list of alleged 4chan moderators and "janitors," who are users who can delete posts and threads, but have fewer privileges than moderators, who can also see IP addresses of users, for example.

That's good.
The site was sold out years ago.
It was never quite the same after that.

Also, the Internet is now officially dead. 😆

It's true that it has changed drastically but there is still something to be said for the anonymous message board format. I like it better because there is no preconceived notions about posters and no clique-y shit that naturally happens in regular forums. Also a great place to discuss old or obscure games. There was always a Morrowind thread.

If you only frequent the infamous boards sure, but there still were pretty good boards in there that will be a shame if they're gone for good.
/g/ can be pretty useful sometimes, /sp/ is absolutely hilarious anytime a big sporting event is happening, /vg/ also has some pretty cool generals, /biz/ has also been hilarious since this whole tariff debacle began and I'm sure there are quite a few other boards that are pretty cool although I've never lurked them.

When /pol/ just became idiots posting black cocks to each other and claiming it was fed demoralization it was time to shut it down. That was over 10 years ago.

honestly, it's probably for the best it doesn't come back. it's name had been associated with too much bad news over the years. and the internet landscape and culture had changed to a point that I feel it's just going to keep attracting bad attentions from both ends of the social scale.

Twitter right now is crazier than 4chan has ever been.

I don't use Twitter, but I know this ain't true.

Then you wouldn't know, would ya? Current day Twitter is filled with political extremists, violent content, porn, and outright racist accounts posting filth. Things that would 100% get you banned from any of the blue boards on 4chan. 4chins has always been shitposting weebs and rascals.

So commonplace 4chan content.

And 4chan has had much worse than that.

Depends on the board, most blue boards aren't really that horrible, meanwhile the last time I went to twitter one of the first posts recommended to me was a full blown racist post although the only pages I follow there are either F1 or gaming related...
And it also recommended me a Musk post, he's literally the last person I would follow on that website.

I don't know if you're also claiming "Twitter is crazier than 4chan has ever been," but if your experience is that you encountered a racist post and were recommended a post of Elon Musk as the worst of it, then, yeah, there's really no comparison.

"Twitter is crazier than most 4chan boards" is that better then?
If you stay away from /pol/, /b/, /int/ and /v/ then you stay away from most of the foul shit that is also common place on twitter nowadays.

"If we ignore all the crazy content on 4chan, then Twitter is crazier than 4chan."

Sure, that's true enough.
Lmao, you only have to go to those boards and see that crazy content if you want to, no one makes you do such a thing, meanwhile on twitter I get recommended shit I never asked for. But sure, have it your way :messenger_tears_of_joy:

If you believe the "crazy content" is reliably segregated on specific 4chan boards and isn't permeated throughout the boards, maybe you don't use 4chan that much. What can get you banned on blue boards aside, the deplorable 4chan culture prevails.

But that's true—no one forces you to use 4chan. Who's forcing you to use Twitter? You know you can turn off recommended tweets, right? Unless I can't believe Google again on that.

I think it's not good, actually. Now where will they go?
A very valid point!

Where would they go 8chan? Some new site? Resurrect Backpage? 4chan talks a lot of Nintendo. Maybe there is a certain Nintendo forum that could welcome them? lol.

Serious question, why was it attacked? Those Elon Musk rumors?

Didn't 8ch get shut down after the Christchurch shooting? Or am I mixing and misremembering events?

Supposedly the hacker is a /qa/ refugee that had been planning this attack for 4 years. And for those who don't know, /qa/ was a "questions and answers" board that got locked by hiroshimoot after soyjak posters from that board kept raiding other boards. mostly /lgbt/ iirc. Most of them bailed 4chan and created soyjak party which is the website where the supposed hacker shared all the info from this hack.

I have no idea, i haven't ever used 4chan, only see the screen clips on Reddit and other places from time to time.

Maybe 8chan is no more, no idea.

What percentage here. What percentage Reddit?
I can say for myself I've used Reddit way more than NeoGAF, and by this point maybe also 4chan, so maybe I'm one of them you'd count, but I can say for myself at least that I first had a NeoGAF account way before a Reddit account. NeoGAF was the shit back in the day. Still feels like it is tbh, after going through these last two Nintendo Directs with y'all. Also I'm pretty high so I'm sorry if I misunderstood and this isn't what you were saying. EDIT: NVM I'm high. Sorry for the pointless post now. There should be a delete post option for these moments as long as it wasn't responded to/quoted.
