Not too surprising.

If you're managing your health, comparing yourself to the average of any state isn't a good idea.

We need healthcare reform. Preferably single payer with regulations encouraging competition, and incentives for patients to choose doctors that are more effective. But we shouldn't confuse general healthcare as the reason why America is so sick right now. America is sick because of the food. Fructose leads to obesity.

http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/18703413

Sure early diagnosis of cancer and other chronic conditions will save some lives, and we should do it. But we're better off with preventing the vast majority of cases from ever happening. The FDA should regulate foods that have toxic chronic intoxication.
Definitely, but unfortunately the corn lobby is too powerful. The U.S. Farm Bill disproportionately subsidies soy, wheat, and corn. Crops which are used to create tran fats, cheap refined carbs, and sweeteners, respectively.

Not just HFCS. Lab fructose is becoming a popular ingredient to food because it keeps customers overeating and it is sweeter than both HFCS and sugar.

The problem isn't just with soda too. More than half the stuff in groceries that is in a package has fructose now. Bread. Fucking bread has HFCS. Chronic consumption of fructose has a drug like and very negative effect on the body.

I'm rather shocked Colorado isn't higher. We pretty much don't have non-organic grocery stores anymore.

We still have Safeway, that said numerous studies have shown that organic food is no better for us than anything else, like most things its just Marketing. That said, I love Whole Foods LOL.

Was surprised also CO was that low on the list-I always associated it with being the most food-conscious and exercise-aware state in the union.

These stats also map fairly well to poverty rates. The working poor, the less educated, and the structurally unemployed/underemployed will have worse access to healthy food, less education on matters of personal health, and will find preventive medical coverage difficult to access and afford (if they don't meet state medicaid guidelines).

You want a healthier population? Educate them and give them better access to the things that allow them to become healthier.

there's a certain prestige about being a healthy person living in kentucky. i mean, if you're a healthy guy in vermont, who cares?

but a healthy guy in kentucky? i feel kind of unique.

There are indeed a lot of really large people in the Cincinnati area(Northern Kentucky/Southern Ohio).

no wonder people are big in that town. that place is off the chain.

49, not surprised.

My hometown was the worst. It was pretty much impossible to do anything but drive everywhere. There are no sidewalks on almost any road and the speed limit everywhere is 45-55. Good luck running or cycling anywhere.
I moved to Oklahoma recently, and I've had the same experience as you. The city is not friendly to anything non-vehicle. And boy are there a lot of fat people.

:lol The Precinct is amazing. If you have the cash to eat there constantly then maybe you've earned the extra pounds.

nice 39. That being said I love my state but fuck if we don't need a major over haul of almost everything here. Education, sexual education, metro system, the list goes on and on

11th here. Not bad, could use some improvement.

Almost daily I pat myself on the back for not having been born in the south. That'll do, Timedog, that'll do.

Which is why you have to take half a second and read the nutritional information.

The only excuse I can empathize with regarding consumption of shitty processed food is that it's cheaper. Just about everything I eat on a regular basis has a much cheaper, much more heavily processed version available. I have no problem paying the extra $$$ because I'm single, but I can imagine it would be a bit more difficult to balance nutrition and budget if I was trying to feed a family.

There's probably a strong link between that list and socioeconomic status. Would probably be even stronger if you broke it down another level, by county.

Mississippi. Also the fattest state in the nation. Lot's of smokers of both cigarettes and meth. Also known to be one of the poorest states, least educated, most racist, and generally 50 years behind everybody on everything.

I can say the landscape is great and mostly unmolested outside the delta, the history rich and interesting, the people polite and charitable, and the food tasty, especially the BBQ.

Looks like Hawaii has been dethroned. All these fatass Hawaiians with their plate lunch and their Kailua pork and their loco mocos, fucking up the stats
