Yep it would make it pretty easy to ignore.I would prefer the third movie to cover the time between the end of the Hobbit and FOTR, though.
That wouldn't really leave much in the way of narrative for the first film if Riddles in the Dark is saved for the second film.I think they should shuffle them around.
Part I: An Unexpected Journey
Part II: Riddles in the Dark
Part III: There and Back Again
Yep it would make it pretty easy to ignore.
I don't even know what happens between the two, I suspect I'm not missing much.
No problem, any time.Someone who had never read The Hobbit could say the same thing about it, but thanks for letting us know that you're not interested in something you know nothing about.
You mean like the story of what Gandalf was up to while he wasn't with the company? Just having him vanish for like the whole movie will feel odd, it will just be an unanswered question.
I'm sure the Battle of the Five Armies will be at the forefront of the narrative and serve as the big climax to the film a la the Battle of the Morannon in ROTK. Peter will milk that battle for all it's worth. The Necro/appendices stuff will probably be dealt with earlier on, then a short foreboding of what's to come via the epilogue with a shot of an incomplete Barad-dûr and a ghostly figure entering it.I don't like the idea of film 3 being mostly Sauron/Appendices stuff. This movie is THE HOBBIT and the climax of the films should be stuff from The Hobbit.
fuckin spoilers! although return of the king is pretty spoilery
I agree, although maybe it will be three 2 hour movies, and six hours total isn't really that long.
More revenue with three 2 hour films. Now that Batman and Harry Potter are finished, WB are relying on Tolkien and Superman for the next few years before the inevitable Batman reboot and Justice League film. Then why not make them two 3 hour movies if that's the case? I'm pretty sure Jackson is making three 3 hour Hobbit films.
If you go by the film timeline, he would be around 27 during The Hobbit and would most probably be in Rivendell at that time. So, a brief nod to his character while Bilbo and co are there is possible. He wouldn't feature heavily, just be in the background.I was talking to a friend yesterday, and while shes looking forward to this movie (like no one else I know), she is rather worried about Aragorn and whether or not he'll be making an appearance at the end of these Hobbit movies; does anyone know if he'll show up? I don't remember him actually being in The Hobbit, but now that there's going to a third movie, does it increase the chances that he'll be able to shine some light on the narratives right before the LOTR story begins?
Disclaimer: I'm not that versed in Tolkien time-lines, so I dunno if I got that right, :lol

Why is he not in The Hobbit? Is it because he didn't want to be or they just didn't cast him?
Between characters aging slowly and characters that basically don't age at all, it's probably not going to be all that clear to the average viewer that the Hobbit takes place 60 years prior to the Fellowship of the Ring if they don't make a special point of it.
Just heard about the trilogy revelation - wow, this is heavy.
Not in my wildest dreams did I think we would get this .. a prequel trilogy.
I think this is part of the reason why they have the opening (potentially prologue) with Frodo and Bilbo (as shown in the trailer), to establish that Bilbo is telling a story from his past, "While I can honestly say I've told you the truth, I may not have told you...everything.".
The key to a very secretWhat exactly are those glasses supposed to look like?

http://www.hollywoodreporter.com/news/hobbit-movie-news-peter-jackson-lord-rings-trilogy-356696Previously, the budget for the two movies was estimated, probably conservatively, at $500 million. A source says the production cost of the third could run between half and two-thirds as much as one of the other two films thanks to work that's already been done. (Marketing No. 3 will add to the total.) But the final cost is not yet known because the studio is awaiting a full script for the third movie.
Pretty much.So they will be doing a few extra weeks of additional filming next June. From everything that has been said, it seems like the majority of the content for this trilogy has already been shot, and they are just going to spread it across three films (with additional scenes) instead of doing it in two.

Off topic: The final post count of this thread is going to look pretty embarrassing for me when it's all said and done.
We can both hang our heads in shame

They're probably running from the Wargs in that scene, so a different, more normal forest.I hope that forest isnt mirkwood, mirkwood needs to be way more creepy.. almost otherworldly. This was my major complaint with the original 3 movies. shit forests.
It's a dangerous business, Frodo, going out of your door. You step into the Road, and if you don't keep your feet, there is no knowing where you might be swept off to.

The later seems more likely now, rather than a bridge film.My excitement for these movies took a big hit with the announcement of an additional film. That said has there been any mention of what additional content they're going to include? If they're attempting to do a bridging film between the story encapsulated in the Hobbit and the beginning of FOTR all will be forgiven. If they're just going to drag out the plot of the Hobbit while interspersing bits from the appendices I will not be pleased in the slightest.
