The Hollywood Reporter Claims Darth Maul was in Obi-Wan (Contradicting Rebels), Lucasfilm denies

A Lucasfilm source contradicted the account, saying Maul was never intended to return for the series.

Twin Suns is the episode of Rebels where Maul finally tracks down Obi-Wan on Tatooine and they have their final duel:

It's the culmination of Maul's arc in Rebels where HE DOESN'T KNOW KENOBI IS ALIVE and HE DOESN'T KNOW KENOBI IS ON TATOOINE. Having him in Obi-Wan would contradict that.

THR needs to stop listening to YouTubers for their stories.

He could be in Obi-Wan as a flashback?
The belief is that the original writers (that this references) probably wanted him in it and Filoni had to squash it, but that was long before any production actually started. Most people think Ray Park is as toxic to Disney as Gina Carano after he posted that photo of him getting a blowjob on Instagram.

Iirc Twin Suns took place a day before the start of Episode IV. You literally have Obi Wan watching from afar as Aunt Beru called Luke in for the meal at the start of the film. It wouldn't need to break continuity if this series takes place before or during Rebels.

It was 2 years before IV (2 BBY) and Maul thought the whole time that Kenobi died (likely during Order 66). I think the last time they met was on Mandalore (19 BBY).

This show takes place like 10 years before IV so it wouldn't make sense if they met each other. If the Crimson Dawn somehow is part of this show then Maul could still be in it, but he and Kenobi could never interact with each other.

HE DOESN'T KNOW KENOBI IS ALIVE

Rebels never claimed that the last time they saw each other was during the Clone Wars. So it could well have been the case that Kenobi and Maul saw each other again between Episode III and Rebels.

HE DOESN'T KNOW KENOBI IS ON TATOOINE

Nevertheless they could have met on another planet. That is also the case now in the Kenobi series with Vader. He does not seem to know that Kenobi is basking in the Tattooine suns.

Rather, in Rebels, Kenobi is obviously very aware that Maul has not forgotten him. Even though he seems to have been more focused on Crimson Dawn for many years. Accordingly, one could assume that Kenobi and Maul actually had a clash after Episode III. Perhaps Kenobi is the reason Maul was left behind on Malachor. Maybe there was a crash and Maul was not sure if Kenobi could still escape or if he's dead too. So maybe Kenobi messed something up for him again here.

Also interesting to mention here is that Maul actually got his revenge on Kenobi a long time ago. After all, he killed Satine. His desire to meet Kenobi in Clone Wars season 7 was more to get revenge on Sidious. So where does the renewed hatred for Kenobi come from? Probably from another encounter that we don't know about.

tl;dr: Maul in the Kenobi series would not contradict Rebels. After all, we still get Vader vs. Kenobi Part II. No one would have thought that possible.

I wouldn’t really care personally if they retconned it. I’m a huge SW fan but n vet could get into CW or rebels despite trying to multiple times. I know fans would be pissed though

All I'm saying is I wouldn't be mad if there was season finale post credit scene where the twin sun animated final duel was reshot line for line in live action with McGregor and Park. I think it would be the greatest post credit scene of all times and fans would lose their shit.

Oh yeah, an interaction would be out of the question.

I heard someone on the radio say the actor got caught up in a revenge porn scandal around the time the show was delayed. I looked it up quickly, and saw references to what seemed to be summer of 2020. Maybe there is some truth to him originally being planned to come back. If there is, I would have to believe the scandal is why they dropped him as opposed to the show being too dark or whatever. The darker this show gets the better. It was a period of very bad times.

He did what? 🤣

Disney can't fire him for that. Hire him and work that into the story with Obi Wan munching on Maul or something. Not only would fans lap that shit up (especially if duel of fates was playing during the act), but It'll give their relationship some added complexity.

That would be completely against what Filomi and Favreau seem to be trying to create.

Especially Filomi who basically has control over the whole lore and backstory outside the sequel trilogy.

Ya I agree. I’m just saying for me personally. Won’t happen anyways. It’s Filoni BTW

iPhone keyboard. Haha. Yeah.

I personally think it is great someone is giving green or red lights to everything.

It is strange though that this seemed to go as far as it did before it was corrected.

If you haven’t posted a picture of yourself getting a BJ on Insta do you really have anything to say about Star Wars lore?

All of Rebels was meant to look like the McQuarrie concept art.

Edit: NM Tweet was faked by StarWarsNewsNet

He's referring to the Tweet in the OP there. StarWarsNewsNet faked a Tweet where he said outright that it was bullshit.
