The Humble Monthly Bundle

the implication is you still get the game in feb if you dont pay until feb. You only have to pay right now if you want to play it right now.

But some people don't want to subscribe. They wanted a one a done and basically got tricked because of the way they handled the extra game for last month. That would piss me off too if I was trying to use the service in that way.

yep. Its not super cool.

Works just fine on my taxes. Can't be that dumb bro.

You're not allowed to claim these on your taxes. Since humble is the one who is giving the money to charity, they are the ones who can claim it and not you. Same with any purchases you make on Amazon smile, Amazon can claim the charitable contribution not you.

I'm sure you've been fine in the past, but if you ever get audited you'd have an issue with it.

Oh fuck yes Talos Principle! I've been going back and forth on if I want that game for like half a year now, this is a great goddamn bundle for me

So far, I love Grim and Talos from this bundle. Already own Spelunky, I 'll just have to wait and see the other 3 games, to make a decision for next month. The thing is that Isolation sounds like a good deal for $12 + 5 games.

Don't criticize the bundle because you expected Aliens game to be in it. The whole point of the bundle is that you do NOT know those games. Humble Bundle didn't trick you, it was kind of your imagination and expectations.

Criticize it if those 6 games aren't worth the price. Compared to some Indie bundles that give slightly older games for half the price, you can make a good case that Humble Indie Bundles beat the Monthly Bundle in value. However, because majority of monthly bundle games have never been discounted that much or bundled previously, it makes an ok value for 12$. If you include Payday 2 with DLC, then it is really competitive at less than 2$ per game.

Wut

Its the exact opposite. Most of the games in the monthly bundles have already been bundled many times before or heavily discounted, and they are mostly not really that recent at all. The old Humble Indie Bundles were so much better it isn't even funny. They had games that were often released in the same year and didn't have many discounts. They also had more games. And it was cheaper.

The monthly bundles have yet to hold a candle to them. Its awful.

I remember this period. It was kinda surprising, in retrospect, how much they managed to shove in for value's sake. Now they've gotten to a point where there's an install base, and are able to do less so, and people will still keep buying.

Oh well, I suppose.

I agree.

I'll quote myself from back in October:

Here's the thing: I can almost guarantee the first couple bundles will be worth it for the vast majority of people. That isn't a problem because 1) they are looking to impress and 2) there are a lot of sources available for them to potentially cull from.

However, the reality is that the longer this thing goes on the worse the games are going to be. Let's say that each bundle has the minimum number of games, 4, so that equals nearly 50 games a year.

Are there 50 games, even including massive AAA games that most certainly won't be included in this in a timely manner, that you want to buy a year? I doubt it. This will get worse every month this thing runs as their crop of games that are actually worth it gets smaller and smaller.

What this monthly plan is attempting to do is reset the value of videogames that Humble helped to devalue. Look at the current Humble Indie Bundle, what was once the high water mark for bundles, and it's average purchasing price of $7.00 for currently 6 games (and soon to be more). It's nearly half of what they are asking for their monthly plan for more games than the monthly plan will probably ever give you.

If someone doesn't want Mushroom 11, Fistful of Gun, or The Masterplan - I'll take them off your hands.

$12 USD for these games when you know they will go cheaper is not worth it. I don't see these deals getting any better as time goes on either - but I guess for those that have nothing or are avid collectors this could be the deal they want/need.

^ I don't think any of first 3 bundles really impressed anyone tho.

That's debatable. While I've been glad not to have been subscribed all these months, there are good games that would appeal to people who aren't die-hard Steam collectors in these bundles. The majority of complaints in this thread aren't even from regular subscribers but people who thought they were getting an Aliens game.

Again, I don't personally find the value in these early bundles, but it'd be myopic of me to think that applies broadly.

Regardless, the major thrust of my point will still come true, I think: these bundles are only going to get worse and worse.

damn it. i wanted to buy the monthly humble but i came home too late, now i'm seeing apparently it had talos principle, grim fandango, among others, for a measly 12$

damn it :((

This is the third bundle...

First bundle was "pay early and you'll get Legend of Grimrock 2"

For the fourth bundle, it seems like to encourage sales (and to not piss off people who subscribe by giving others more games than them for the same price they pay), they just unlock one of the games early. It's fine really. People complaining about beeing "tricked" just wanted to freeload off of the subscribers really, there's no reason to subscribe if every two months you can get the (what's supposed ot be) top game of the bundle for free on top of a bundle.

oh fuck, see this post too late, i only want Grim Fandango Remastered....
You're in luck, it's just 3$ on Steam :

That's an awesome bundle even without Alien Isolation, but I guess Humble changed their model.

I feel bad since I posted that image that suggested Alien was in this one. :/

don't feel to bad. I posted before the bundle went live that the wording on everything was different and that there was a decent chance aliens was for the feb bundle.

for those arguing that payday was worded the same it's not, it's there in my post.
payday was subscribe to get it.
aliens was pay early.

two completely different wordings.

as for if this month was worth it... lets see.
The Talos Principle - cheapest listed price $9.99 (though apparently a coupon brought it down to $5)
the masterplan - $4.99
Mushroom 11 - $9.99
Grim Fandango -$2.99 but also on ps+
spelunky - $2.99 also on ps+ I am pretty sure it was previously bundled
A Fistful of Gun - $4.23

overall not a horrible value, not much that personally interests me but should be able to recoup the $12.

to be fair, them making it so you can order knowing one of the games is much better than getting one of last month's games for risk factor. I mean if you want alien for $12 instead of buying on steam just buy the bundle and cancel.

What's the best way to unload the extra codes? I have like 2 of the games already on steam, Talos Principle and Grim fandango.

I'm not sure if I will stay til Feb, for sure, but I'm thinking of leaving it running as a way to save money until I clear my backlog. I just refuse to buy stuff in case it ends up in the humble monthly.

The Humble people have finally made a post detailing the changes in the way early unlocks have changed. Too little, too late. Keep thirsting for those subscriptions Humble, this is a sinking ship.

Tempted to subscribe just because it's a great price for Alien:Isolation... but I already have such a huge backlog I'm not sure I can justify it, especially since the bundle itself could be full of games I already have :(

$12 is a good price for Alien, is there a list of previous bundles so one can know what to expect from this service?

So much vitriol lol. What they did was a little shady, but going forward that's the right way to go as far as attracting one time purchasers.

WTF, does it mean that Aliens are a part of the 6-game bundle? Or is it still an extra title on top of the 6 surprise games?

It's a part of the 6-game bundle as far as I can tell. When Humble lists previous bundles, Legend of Grimrock is not a part of of the first bundle, whereas Alien is a part of the upcoming February bundle.

Great bundle! Haven't been disappointed with any of these yet, and the monthly surprise is really nice. Only owned (and loved) Spelunky already.

When are the clues released? Is there a chance we will know what the next bundle is so I can snag it and Alien:Isolation just before it's released? Ty

It looks like the way it will work from now on is that the bundle will contain six games, one of which - Alien Isolation in this case - will be announced in advance. You'll gain access to the announced game as soon as you pay for the bundle but you'll have to wait until the first Friday of the following month to get your hands on the other five games.

As for hints, it's possible that somebody hunting around in the dark corners of the internet may stumble across some info a day or so before the bundle goes live, but don't expect any clues from Humble beyond what we already know.

I see, thank you very much for the info. I quite want Alien:Isolation but I'm worried about buying an entire bundle blind again, so will probably give it a miss then.

Are the Humble Bundle coupons tradeable? Because I am thinking on getting the Humble Monthly and if someone has the 10% coupon from the last bundle and doesn't plan to use it, I could gladly accept it to save a couple of bucks.

I do not see any way to trade a coupon.
