I found a treasure trove of old propaganda posters and a scanned hygiene pamphlet from the 40's (or 50's, I'm not sure) and I just had to share some of them. There are literally thousands of these images, so I hope I chose some good ones.

First, from the hygiene pamphlet:

Remember kids, W.C. Fields impersonators are big fat liars!

And The Penguin was born.

Some hygeine posters (all of them pretty much having to do with STDs):

And now, the propoganda:

Early unsuccessful attempts to copy the "anime" style.

A friend of mine found the link to the digital archive and sent it to me. I got them on my hard drive using a script (web surfing to each one would have taken forever) and browsed through them there.

They're all there online, I'm just pointing out a few of the good ones.

Btw, those VD posters wouldn't have really been considered "alarmist" for the time-- syphilis and gonorrhea were serious diseases back then that affected hundreds of thousands of people from what I understand. They were borderline epidemics for a while.
