Although the character downloads are so freaking expensive for what they are (which I say knowing that I'll probably buy Ai anyway...)

Gonna be grabbing a 5000y psn card end of this week . . . Tho I'm debating maybe + 3000 as well as the recolors are really nice. Then there's the temptation to finish catalog because the Ami/Mami puppets are pretty win.

I never imported a 360 and I don't have a PS3 so I'm going to be waiting for a PSP version/vita version eventually to hopefully pick this up as I love Idolmaster <3

Can't they release the game without any DLC? Or is the "base" game so small?

Now why would they do that? The DLC is quite literally what makes the profit for Namdai, as you can see in the chatter with Setsuna there.

And to answer the question, no the base game isn't small at all.

Yeah, but if the main idea was not to release in the West, due to low DLC prices (so that everyone in Japan would import from the US instead - although I find that questionable, Japanese ppl will not just jump on a game in English, esp. not the ones IdolM@ster is targeted at), then just release the base game without DLC.

Although I can't blame the company for not caring: it's Game+ton of DLC in Japan vs. only a game in the West. True, not worth it.

Yeah, if you're the type who'd want to see every idols story, you'd be looking at, what, maybe 110 hours. Realistically 130-140-ish if you wanted to see the "true" endings, as you'll never manage to get one of those on your first couple of playthroughs.

The DLC is all supplementary material, and none of it really effects the core game in so much as it doesn't add content. Some of it makes the game easier, admittedly, and the songs are nice as to add a bit of additional variance to your nth playthrough, but honestly, a lot of it is only marginally on a higher level than Horse Armour. Expensive horse armour at that (even taking exchange rates into account, the DLC is expensive - songs tend to run more expensive than buying a CD single in Japan).

It's true that there's plenty enough game there to be satisfied with without having to buy the DLC, but honestly, I don't think the hardcore-types who'd make up the bulk of the audience would be happy with not being able to get any of that stuff, and the prices on that stuff would never fly outside Japan. So *shrug*

The people who buy the most DLC aren't the people who play the main game - or are the people who are already done with it. The people who buy the largest percentage of the DLC are the people obsessed with messing around with performance videos and MADs for NND/Youtube. As long as the songs were still in Japanese, it doesn't really matter what language the rest of the game is for that stuff - they'd be jumping straight into S4U!

Hello everyone ..i have a quick question ..i've read the wiki and some of the links provided
( already done the PS3 demo twice )

Is there a way to know how good or bad some of the answer are ? i know they react to show their likeness or not of them so i'm forced to save each day and restart if i've screwed up ? or is it a guide for good answers ( or status changes ) ??

Not sure how the demo is, but usually starting off . . . doing something wrong (Like winning in Rock/Paper/Scissors) or answering wrong (Like guessing the wrong girl) can really drag the mood down for the unit. So in general, the bad are usually really bad, at least during the evening communications. However, the morning communications aren't as bad, and you'll often have to choose to be negative to 1 or 2 of the girls depending on whats going on.

that's it. i had 3 choices ( morning ) but whatever i choose , one of the girls seemed unhappy.. so that's normal gameplay ? i have to balance the mood of everyone ..??

( Confused as i've tried the psp version and there were clear GOOD choices ).

By the way the demo has simple lessons for one day with some talks ( 3 events ) and a concert ? ( at the end )..Quite cool , i'm just not ready to face such difficulty ( in gameplay).

Correct, balance is the key. The whole theme to im@s 2 is unity. It's really not that hard to balance them, in the morning anyway. What you do in the evening is what can make or break your team. If you're not confident about your choices there, you're better off just skipping the evening interaction.

Each time you will pick one of two answer choices. The mood of the three girls will change like so:

If the comment was about the unit, you'll get +++ or ---
If the comment was about herself, you'll get -++ or +--

So juicy!

So here's the latest interesting info from far far away . . .

- There will be a reason to buy all 3 876 idols. . . See the ending of Im@S TV to find out! (Trio option in S4U! ?!)

- Macross F characters are an option, not set in stone. Depending on what crossover opportunities there could be

- There will be at least 3 more anime songs coming! They're under deal to release them until the end of the BR releases for TV (I bet CHANGE!! is one of them)

- At least one more Vocaloid character release, possibly around the time of Project Mirai for 3DS

- There was a Jupiter extension planned . . . But now it's up in the air.

Namdai taking all my monies D:

Well, that's a shame... the guys deserve more than two songs, at least.
Actually believe it or not, they got a full album release with new songs last month. No idea how well it did though...

The thing about the Jupiter extension was that the speculator thought it would have been released before the 876 girls, but now its either they're holding it for later or who knows what.

Well, you got your wish Rain, I finally started a playthrough. For the first playthrough, my leader naturally will be Haruka, and I went with Makoto and Takane for my first unit since I'm going to eventually change to the Charlie Sheen's Winning(tm) unit of Miki, Hibiki, and Chihaya later on.

Random nonsense:

I never paid attention to this during the anime, but Makoto refers to herself with 'boku'.

The morning greeting is no longer semi-random. I can always look at this chart to know how to answer.

I was looking on JP PSN to get the free catalogs included with the PS3 version of the game. I'm not good with currency conversions, but from my rough calculations, if you actually buy all the DLCs every month, it will cost you about $160. Every month. Hey Scamco, how about no. I'm sure I'll end up buying CHANGE!!!!!!!!!!!!!! but beyond that, who knows.

This post is too long and taking away from my time fumbling around with the new gameplay mechanics. Bye now!

I bought it. It's probably not as grandiose as a full album, but at least all of the characters got their own character songs out of it. The sales for the CD weren't anywhere near what even a typical iM@S character CD does, but they were still way better than I'd expected.

I grabbed the Ai DLC pack this morning. It's a touch more flexible, S4U-wise, in that that game allows you to use any of your Extend-type costumes (including the Miku DLC). You can't use the regular costume types, but I guess that's because they're custom for each character.

The stat swing on the included costume is identical to the Miku and Palace of Dragon costumes, right down to which stats they primarily boost.

-edit- Oh, you can't equip Ai with a swimsuit, but that goes back to the character custom thing, I guess.

Sooo just caught off my twitter. . . .

NEXT MONTHS DLC IS CHANGE!!!

Another Miku pack as well. I like the song (Melt), but I'm not really a fan of the costume. In either case, I kind of wish they'd held off and given us another character (be it another Dearly Stars character, another Vocaloid or something else entirely) before pulling out Miku again, just for the sake of variance.

Yeah, I'm surprised they did another Miku. . . I thought they'd wait until Mirai or something. . . Anyway. . .

Am I the only one still playing this?

I'm about halfway through my fifth play-through right now. Going to attempt Hyper Mode on the next one.

Hello! Just had my account recently approved! I'm struggling my way through Perfect Sun on PSP and I've played the PS3 demo quite a bit, and adored the anime. I just wish there was some way to get this in the west...My Japanese is worse than a preschooler's, but whatevs. I'm just glad there's a little bit of an English speakingiDOLM@STER community kicking around.

I'm suprised I even found the thread, I almost never come to community.

I've slowed down a bit too with work and other games taking up time, but I will definitely Platinum the game. I've been dragging on playthrough 5, hitting the top 20 on week 8 really take the drama out of the game as you have so much time to work with it's almost a guarantee to hit A Rank.

Looking forward to seeing what's coming in the next DLC Catalog, I doubt it's going to top what they released last month though.

It's pretty much a lock that this series is never going to get a western release. There isn't much of a market for it, the localization would be expensive, the DLC prices are insane by US game standards and they would pretty much have to tone down some of the content.

It is nice to see so many more people get into the games though, the anime turned out to be a lot better than I expected it to be.

Got 99 problems and only one of them is a waifu
I kinda thought nobody else here cared about the game so I didn't bump it when the catalog came out. Catalog 6 was really good, but hurt my wallet bad lol. Bought a 5000 yen card and only have 450 left. Wish there was a cheaper place to buy these cards.
