Modern Combat 3: Fallen Nation for 99c is the best deal on that list, I fucking love that game, easily Gamelofts best title and the best shooter on iOS.

I own the game at the behest of a friend who absolutely adores TWEWY as one of best games of all time. I've never even booted it! I don't really like RPGs and the style and theme is not appealing.

Supposedly the game, according to him is utterly mind-blowing, however. I'll get around to trying it one day.

This is perhaps the strongest example of a non-opinion I've ever seen. "My friend says it's good but I never turned it on lol"

and...?

It only seems to happen once you make decent progress in the game, possibly when you get to a certain level (I'd spent around 12 hours total on it) and when you next open it up, an error appears and your progress has been completely wiped with no way of recovering at all.

Oh, and their way of remunerating people who had issues is giving in-game currency the equivalent of about two hours playtime worth (in terms of trading said currency for buildings they'd earned in the game).

It also wiped any IAP you bought. Their response when mentioning this was "Get a refund from Apple"... and that's it.

Long story short, they don't give a fuck. lol
Oh well, I hope this bug isn't 100%. Else I will play until the inevitable wipe and then leave it / delete. Too late for my wallet vote because I already bought it :(

Pretty much how I feel. What a grand concept to fuck up in such an epic way.

Abd to think I was trying to decide which "new hotness" puzzle game to get, this and 10,000,000. Well apparently I chose wrong so I just bought 10,000,000 so hopefully this game will work out better.

I suppose I'll go give it a spin.

You can backup your progress through iFunBox after every session if you're that worried.

Yeah, I could. I knew going in that this was a possibility. I guess I just figured that it wouldn't happen to me, and I was wrong.

That being said, it sucks that such a great game had such an Achilles' heel. As much fun as I had, I can't bring myself to start from scratch.

I guess that's one of the downsides of tying progression into a puzzle game. It takes away some of the unlimited replayability of a good puzzle game.

Not really an iOS gaming question, but I'm having a weird issue with my iPad connecting to the App Store and iTunes Store. If someone could help me out I'd really appreciate it.

I have a retina iPad wifi only model, and I have wifi at home and at work. Although I have no trouble connecting to wifi and browsing the internet and playing online games on my home network, I haven not been able to access the App Store or iTunes Store for the last two weeks or so. Kinda weird, right? Why would I be able to browse the internet and play online games at home but not be able to connect to the App Store.

My wifi connection at work gives me no problems at all. I can connect to the App Store and iTunes Store without a hitch. So it's only my home connection that is giving me trouble.

Hmmm max Payne is not too bad. Turned on hard lock and tap to shoot made it somewhat ok. Game is super easy but I know I'd be super frustrated if it was even a bit hard.

Diving seems irrelevant now you can eat so much bullets lol.

UI elements are super small on iPhone :(

Oh snap, this looks great. So bought, thanks for the rec. It's half off (.99) right now too.
Someone else had mentioned Puzzlejuice here and I checked it out - it blew my mind. I normally don't just post a one-liner without some explanation, but I was going out and just had to thank the thread.

It's like playing Spelltower with your left hand and playing Tetris with your right at the same time. Add in a cool presentation and graphical style, hip flavor text, and powerups unlocked via small Jetpack Joyride-esquire mini-missions, and it's kind of a singular embodiment of everything I love about iOS games.

And yeah, on sale for 99 cents right now. Anyone who like puzzlers needs this!

No love here for My Kingdom for the Princess series? Third part came out recently and they have added couple of extra levels to the first two games.

http://itunes.apple.com/us/app/my-kingdom-for-princess-3/id476533159

My wife is absolutely addicted to it, one of the best time management games out there, pretty good level design, nice graphics and smooth learning curve. It is pretty fun trying to beat each others level scores, though, I'm afraid, I'm falling behind recently, my wife is now beating developers records on most of the levels. :)

In contrast to the most time management games you can approach a level in a different ways, some of them even developers didnt thought about. This puzzle-like component makes it somewhat similar in spirit to our beloved PJ Monsters, even being completely different game. :)

Argh! Chalk me down as one more for the Puzzlecraft 'no string' error. Seriously, level 23 and now everything is all gone. Hugely frustrating and pretty much guarantees I'll never be thinking about purchasing IAP for it. Not if they can let something so game ruining like that slip through the QA.

What happened with Puzzle Craft? There was an update and it was corrupting save files?

No patch, just the base game from release. Seems to occur at random times and the only way to 'fix' it is to reset your entire town.

Well, put maybe 1-2 hours into 10,000,000 and really liking it. I was sort of confuses at first. I haven't really played a matching game that used a sliding-tile system like that before.

Really nice and it can get quite intense. Just when you think you don't quite understand it you start being able to unlock upgrades and it starts clicking.

Zombies, Run! just got a nice looking update. Haven't tried it out yet, but it looks to have added more features for stat tracking and distance feedback. I know a few people were let down by the lack of features for serious runners, but this update looks to have addressed that. I'll try it out tonight and post again.

How's Sword of Fargoal? I'm not into hardcore rogue likes, and it sounds like this game is more casual?
Really nice Rogue. I like it a lot. Probably the best Rogue on iOS. I haven't played many but SoF is definitely better than 100Rogues imo.

Only gripe I have is having to wait around for health to recover before being brave enough to venture further forth. Big thumbs up to the perma-death though. Absolutely essential in a rogue to keep it tense.

I will re-install and check out the update-thanks for posting this.

I bought it earlier this week and just now got done with my first mission. I've been trying to fit in a jog for days in anticipation!

Anywho, it was like 5 am when I headed out and the fog was rolling in and, even though I run on the sidewalk of a major highway, I barely saw a soul. The atmosphere made a great compliment to the mission and I had a great time.

I know some people may balk at the app's price, but c'mon guys. It's getting harder and harder to find decent .99 apps these days. The upside of this is people are putting a ton of work into some of the pricier apps and they are totally worth it.

I think we are seeing the app store mature. The price of things is going up a bit, but the quality is increasing exponentially. As long as developers don't succumb to hubris and start charging ridiculous prices, I think it's a net positive.

If you haven't started it yet, why not just wait a few more days / week until the update comes out? It's been submitted to apple and just awaiting their release. Then you won't have to risk anything crashing.

Shmup fans: Blazing Star got an update adding auto fire and a 1:1 touch control option (with separate leaderboard). Game is so much better now. Highly recommended. Amazing job by DotEmu.

It's great and exactly what you are after, Rogue touch is pretty hardcore and 100 Rogues is still buggy as hell.

Thanks for the response. Picked it up and it's pretty fun while playing on the easy mode for me. I like how there's a lot of exploration and how the map actually shows the hidden break in the wall. I think this is the first "rogue like" that i'll try to finish.

As an aside from being someone with no real experience in rogue likes..why do some not consider this game a full rogue like? Just something I was wondering...

Does anyone here play Starbase Orion? It's a turn based strategy game, more similar to Civilization than Advance Wars, with an emphasis on asynchronous multiplayer. As far as I know, it's the best iOS TBS by far. It's universal and uses iCloud.

I'd like to set up a little GAF tournament (even if it's just with 3 others). The game's come a long way since release (they update it about once a month to add things and balance it better for competitive games). My game center handle is: the little turkey

Edit: it also has pass and play multiplayer

Agreed. The game looks and plays fantastic on the iPad 3.

Updated my OS on my iPad, was a lot less painful than I was expecting, turns out I had set the netbook up properly last time I updated so it ran smoothly and didn't delete any data. Yay!

Which means I got to buy Bastion finally. And godamn it was worth the wait! It's beautiful and plays very well. The classic controls are nearly perfect - I'd like the ability to move buttons still, but they work ok where they are, and the vstick is fine for movement. I didn't realise how hectic the combat would get, I think it's going to be a fun experience. The presentation reminds me a lot of Aquaria - I think Bastion fans may enjoy it too.

Also been playing a lot more TWEWY and I think I'm over the initial hump. The music is still grating, but I'm enjoying hating it and the story, while still overly wordy isn't making me want to throttle the little boy any more. The combat is suprisingly fun though, I just clicked properly with the combo system and you feel like a beast when playing properly. I just onlocked the little card matching game and it's a neat idea to keep the combat varied. In all I'm enjoying it finally. Terrible start though.

I have it, but haven't got around to playing it yet. I'm interested, but would probably need to play against the AI before jumping into multi.

Congrats on not losing any data, I had similar worries when I had removed the jailbreak from my iPhone some months ago.

By the way Jedeye, here's the OT for this version of TWEWY if you have any questions or want to post lengthier impressions down the road. It's interesting to read your comments on it since you're not coming from the DS version.

Added you and will buy the game today!

Nice to hear you are now enjoying TWEWY. Always important to enjoy our $20 iOS purchases.

As for Bastion, I've said it once, but the fling joystick works really well with the game. Since it can be a bit twitchy later on, it's a welcome addition. Not necessary, but it makes any game with virtual stick more enjoyable.

It might be that it isn't turn based like nethack etc in that in Fargoal opponents move while you stand still. (if what I've read is true)

Is anyone here playing Happy Street? I could use a few friends in there. :). Gamecenter: outunderstars.
I think it's one of those games people play for a week or so and then drop. At least it was like that with me.

The same happens with all freemium games and all strategy games.

Go to the settings, open the store page, and sign out of your AppleID, then sign back in.

Edit: also, you should still be able to search the apple store in your current condition. Just can't access the homepage.

About to complete Bastion.
And I do not want it to end.

Probably one of the best games I ever played...sure the best H&S RPG/Adventure.
In particular one of the best soundtracks combined to the visual experience.
If you bought the soundtrack DO NOT LISTEN it till you completed the game.
Some songs will give you shivers when you hear them for the first time in the game.
Later stages are damn hard but really satisfying.
And even when you are done with the story there is still an incredible amount of things to do (idols, weapons, challenges, memories...)

FYI while I had some severe frame drops initially in some stages, later on, despite being dozens of things moving on screen, strangely frame rate is consistent.

The story and the characters, plus the incredible coolness of the background narrator are something that must be experienced.
It is awesome how it starts vague and strange, then all come together.

Amazing.

Sega need to port Phantasy Star Zero to iOS, make it f2p and charge for grinders, add in an online black market of sorts.

Money, lots of it, do it sega!

I'm looking for a Zelda-esque game on the iPad. Any suggestions?

Also, feel free to add me in gamecenter. My name there is the same as my NeoGAF name.

They already announced that, actually. Phantasy Star Online 2 is coming to iOS/Android and is going to be f2p.

For what I have seen of that it will be like monster hunter, a combat swiping game only :( and no online play.

Across Age HD if it's still on offer, it's old now but still plays well.

I bought Across Age due to it being 99 cents, and, uh, yeah.

I'm not far into it at the moment but I'm not impressed. Performance doesn't seem that great on IPAD 3. Combat is boring. Story is awful. I've evolved in my gaming taste, and playing a lame throwback to Secret of Mana/Zelda doesn't cut it.

While not, from what I hear, really a Zelda-like if you are looking for a deep and complex experience why not check out "Horn"?

I don't quite have the horsepower for it, but it just looks fantastic.

I seriously enjoy Max Payne HD a LOT. It controls very well with the update.

It's also the only reason I haven't bought Bastion yet.
