Lili and Demon's Score are very very different games, but both are pretty great.

Edit: I know some people are down on Demon Score's IAPs but I played through easy, medium and part of hard without buying anything and have still enjoyed myself a lot.

So I just got my first iPhone in the mail today, and have been messing around with it. I'm still trying to figure out a lot of things. Not sure I'm crazy about how the podcast app works. I didn't waste any time though getting a few iOS games I wanted. I wanted to start out cheap, because I gotta consider which more expensive games are worth considering.

So far I've bought Ghost Trick, Scribblenauts Remix, Angry Birds, Angry Birds Space, and Infinity Blade. I'm considering TWEWY, but that is pretty pricey. Also how is the iOS versions of Chrono trigger and secret of mana?

Any other real good iOS games that I should consider? This is all new to me, and I'm eager to catch up.

Was interested in Demons Score but after reading the comments about having to purchase $3 upgrades just to see more of the levels, forget it.

And SFxT isn't worth it right now with only a handful of characters. Knowing Capcom, they'll probably bring out another version with more characters and update that one like how they did with SFIV Volt.

When is square enix going to comprehend the iOS market? Their pricing schemes reek of arrogance. Maybe they'll figure out all their games being overpriced keep them out of the top 100 after the initial buzz goes away.

Twewy seems to be their only exception and that price is still a bit high.

Yep... it's something quite interesting, because the concepts are good, but the way they actually deliver them doesn't really feel that good. Same for many other smartphone stuff made in Japan, mostly the social gaming kind. They just make or re-use their mobile phone web browser stuff and put it on a bigger screen thinking that's going to do it... Most of the GREE and DeNA stuff is like that, and it just feels lazy and old (and yet it sells so much here in Japan).

More than anything they need to figure out that if they are going to price things high they need to make hem universal. I'd buy twewy/chaos rings2 in a second if I didn't have to choose between versions. I'll double dip on 1-3 dollar games but not on 20 dollar ones.

need some help folks. got ghost trick long back on my ipod touch and bought the all chapter pack and now recently got myself an iphone 4s and when i transfer the game i can only play till chapter 2. to play further it asks me to buy the whole thing again. will they charge me if i download the pack again or is it tied to my apple id?

Login to your original Apple ID and restore chapters in the game

Sorry to say, but people in Japan will buy anything related to mobiles, and S-E is a Japanese company, they assume they can just price it the same way as in their home country.

i don't actually disagree with SE's higher pricing of games - at least when it comes to original or newer content. it's nice to have some balance to iOS's race to the bottom pricing where gamers are expecting almost-console experiences for 99p.

SE pricing makes sense to me somewhat.

They just don't want to fuck over their other handheld games is how I take it.

They still seem like they are feeling the market.

A lot of different approaches for the past few games they did.

Think this new one is like their first paid app with iap, or one of the few.

Is anyone playing the Squaresoft card battler Guardian Cross?

Its "free" today (maybe its just a marketing stunt for a freemium game, i dont know).

If anyone wants to try it, here is my team invitation code: QY09951 (I hope this is allowed!)

I've spent 85 hours playing Final Fantasy Tactics on my phone. 17 bucks seems cheap to me.

Just because everyone else is pricing stuff at $1 doesn't mean S-E's business model is wrong, it just means it's different. They're clearly making enough money to continue releasing these games, so it seems silly to question their decisions on pricing.

It's just people being TouchArcade, I guess. "I want to pay one dollar for TWEWY, therefore S-E are morons for releasing it at $17."

My only complaint is the hidden costs in things like Demon's Score, which is incredibly anti-consumer.

Yep their approach is basically fine. Worst case? They end up lowering their prices or making everything universal. This is much easier than raising prices or taking features away later.

The Room is pretty fantastic so far.

Nice Myst vibe.

Just perfect on the new iPad....got some games yesterday but played just it so far, can't stop.

cannot recommend rayman ios enough, perfect way of bringing that franchise to the iphone feels so familiar, yet so well crafted around the device.

Wow, just got lucky in Super Hexagon and increased my best time from 11 seconds to 29! A really great game!

Terry Cavanaugh really gets what a lot of devs just don't. As soon as you die your back in the game, man. That is SOOO important.

I don't have a problem with higher prices, i just believe square goes overboard in how they price their content overall. Demon Score is 6.99 but they lock a bunch of stuff behind iap, feels shady. Same goes for how ff dimensions is priced. If it were one price to get everything for 10 to 15 bucks I would be ok with that.

Also how is the iOS versions of Chrono trigger and secret of mana?

I hated both of them. You'd be better off buying them, deleting them, getting a snes emulator and enjoying better controls, crisper graphics and a memory footprint 100 times smaller. I find Mana especially unplayable with the iPhone controls.

I asked this question a few pages ago but it seems to have gone unnoticed, so pardon me for asking again :

- Is the only written portion / storyline of Galaxy on Fire 1 comprised of the first few beginning missions ?

I know that at the time of its release the charm of the game was in its free-roaming part, but with Galaxy on Fire 2 and its expansions waiting in my itunes account, if the storyline is indeed finished I will go directly to the sequel.

Everyone should buy it.

+1! Best platformer on iOS (by far!). Pastagames really know what they are doing. Great great work.

Was beginning to lose faith in iOS gaming, seems it was all cynical money grabbing crap* for more than six months now - Then Rayman and The Room was released on the same day. Both are super great, and really plays on the strength of the platform. Inspiring.

EDIT!
*With a few exceptions. Bad Hotel is great!

Sorry I missed this earlier, but yes. To my knowledge there just isn't a lot to part 1's plot.

It's a shame really because for some reason I enjoyed part 1 more, but I'm sure I'm in the minority. I hated the mining shit in 2.

What game is that Rayman one? All I find is the endless runner style one, Jungle Run or whatever.

Is it iOS6 that makes the cars in Real Racing 2 see-through in some ways, notably the headlights of other cars in replays?

What other issues are there with the popular games I should wait for fixes for?

Anyone checked the Rayman achievements? Completing all levels perfectly without dying once or restarting (excluding lands of the dead I guess)

Absolutely insane will not even be attempting woah. Loving the game though some parts are real ball breakers

Also loving the happy street update(it's my vice and I hate/love it) add me on gc: manaxau

Its not an endless runner... its level based where you need to collect stuff to get a perfect score. It just runs automatically so its all about getting the jumping and hovering etc right. Its more like a forced speed runner and it works really well.

Apparently the iOS Layton game will be out tomorrow (I do not know if only in the Jap store tough).

http://www.layton.jp/mysteryroom/#movieSec

Doesn't seem the Layton I love and remember tough.

EDIT: What another crazy iOS week. I wonder what Christmas will bring now.
Yeah, back in 2009 this was an unrelated game that was being developed for the DS. It kept disappearing, then in 2011 they announced it would be on iOS instead and slapped the Layton name on it to get more attention (which is not a problem since it looks fun). Would love if the release was worldwide but it's not looking like it.

Oceanhorn looks like it's coming along nicely. Me likey.

I updated my iphone 4 with this new 5-ready version of Tiny Tower, and I'm wondering if the aspect ratio thing won't be a problem after all? It says it fixed aspect ratio for 5, but it doesn't make me lose any real estate. Anyone know now it'll work?

Surely it just means people using a 5 will see more.

It'll look the same on the 4 as before.
