The iOS Gaming |Thread5| From Zero to Gaming Hero

Yea or Nay on Lunar? I haven't played it in probably a decade and would love another run through if the port is good. From the pictures things look a little grainy and of course the font sucks, but I can live with all that.

You know, some folks say they've experienced zero issues with the game. Myself, it's been a matter of playing for about 10-20 minutes, and then the game starts to chug until animation completely ceases altogether. Then, it's a matter of restarting and playing another 10-20 minutes at a time. I'm on 3GS, no jailbreak, and I left ample file space on my phone. Now, if I turn the shaders off, the issue seems to go away, but then you lose a ton of background animation (water, clouds, etc.) Other folks on 4 and 4S have reported similar issues.

All that being said, I love the game itself. It's a wonderful RPG, and "Wow!" at the cutscenes -- just lovely.

Wow...just finished the first bonus level in Rayman Jungle Run. That's the stuff, man. Took me a while to figure out how to get past that one jump, but once it all clicked, it was blissful. Can't quite put my finger on it, but it reminded me of the same kind high I got from one of the segments in the original God of War, where everything just clicks together in this perfect way.

I agree and once you complete all 4 bonus levels, you'll want to go back to them and compete with times on the leaderboards

Kingdom Rush is pretty damn amazing, by far the best TD game that I've played. The people suggesting playing the game on easy mode before going to hard are insane, the difficulty seems near perfect to me on normal. A couple of the snow levels took me a couple tries but I've been able to beat every level without taking a hit. If it's the first strategy game you've ever played (or if you're going to inexpicably play it in some boring way like fully upgrading one single tower, then another, then another like someone suggested doing a couple pages back) easy might be better but I'm really happy with Normal, too many of the popular TD games like The Creeps and PvZ are cakewalks.

I just got to the circular graveyard level and it's the first one really giving me trouble, I might have to forget passing this one with full health. I barely keep it going before the skeleton summoner things show up, and I never have money for cannons to take care of the skeletons (that seems to be what you'd use on them) after spending all my money on archers and wizards to take care of everything else. Is there some way to target a specific enemy? It's really frustrating watching my archers and wizards take out the skeletons one by one, totally ignoring the things summoning them. Tapping on them highlights them with a red circle but it doesn't seem like it makes my towers focus on them.

I'm also wondering if the heroes are worth getting, I've been spending all of my stars on the upgrades and it seems hard to believe that a hero unit is worth the many permanent upgrades you can buy for the 15 points.

Good question!

I've just started playing it and was wondering the same thing. It's worth mentioning that you're not locked in to your choices. You can remove some upgrades and put the stars back into Hero units if you want...or vice versa.

Just a heads up I downloaded it on my ipad and tried to sync the save (Rayman was already in my icloud list of applications)

It completely erased my save! (guess it synced the new save on the ipad)

anyway it syncs now across the ipad and iphone but i had to do all the levels i had already done again, may i just say it is so much easier on an ipad

I can't even get that far.... someone please help me figure this out

Working on the second land of the dead stage in RJR. Damn, these are hard. Difficulty balance on the main stages seems pretty much perfect so far. These are like the Key Temples in DKCR. Great challenge, although they're starting to annoy me a bit. LOL Great game; definitely worth the $3 asking price, and I'm pretty cheap when it comes to mobile.

Ah, forgot about that, I feel stupid now, going to try a hero unit now and see what they do.

On a related note, how do you get access to the different upgrades? I have a couple of the trees maxed out at this point while the game won't let me purchase past the first few upgrades in others. Also it seems like the upgrades I have are different to the ones I had access to when I started playing the iPhone version.

I have some time off work and I swore I'd spend it playing 'proper' games.

I hope Temple Run with the iCade counts 'cause that's what I've been playing for most of today. I'd forgotten how much I enjoyed it!

Eh? I haven't heard of this.

Noticed it too. Updating Galaxy on Fire only took like a minute instead of 30 minutes. Same for IB2. also, NO MORE CONSTANT PASSWORD ENTRY REQUESTS FOR UPDATES. yesss. Definitely the best part about the update. Still doesn't make up for how absolutely shitty apple maps is, though. -.-

Does FFT: War of the Lions experience the same ability slowdown on an iPhone 5 as on a PSP/Vita? That shit drove me crazy, but I really want to replay the game.

Oh my god Rayman Jungle Run is amazing, I am so fucking addicted.

Best iOs game to date for me.

Please tell me there will be an update with more levels, would gladly go for dlc too.

I just picked it up, myself. Quite impressive that something that looks like that is running on my iPod.

Folks on iPhone 4 and above report no problems. I have it on my 3GS, and there was slowdown during spell animations -- annoying, but not game-breaking. Oddly enough, however, if you turn off character icons in the menu, it does help alleviate some of the slowdown. The game's perfectly playable, and if you have a more up-to-date device, you'll probably have zero issues.

What is the track record of Ubisoft's apps in term of going on sale?

Lol I don't want to pay $3 and it drops to $1 a week later like those EA or Rockstar games.

I have officially purchased an iOS 6 system.

So, I was just wondering when the Chaos Rings series is going to get a special discount.

I really want them :D

I noticed Apple finally improved on the updates. Don't have to download the entire app/game again to update it. I like the patching system.

Huh, is this an iOS 6 feature? (still on 5.1.1)

Even when they go on sale they don't really go down that much. Expect something silly like $19.99 ---> $17.99.

I've now got a few family members on iOS devices, does anybody have any good 4 player+ games to recommend? I kind of have my eye on Ticket to Ride, but looking for any other suggestions.

How does that work? Everyone has the game on their phones and then you have the iPad as a bigger reference for everyone? I can't imagine this working in a way that isn't pointless.

The iPad is the game board and the iPhones are the little wooden things that normally hold your letters. Kinda neat, nothing necessary.

Think I paid $5 for the first one last time it was on sale, or something in that neighborhood. Couldn't really get into it.

Why does Geekydad keep banging on about his 3GS. Is he trying to convince his literal wife about something.

LOL

Nah, but it's the only comparison I can make. If this old phone can play half these games fairly decent, it should be a good sign for 4 and 4S (and now 5) users. Contemplating upgrading for Christmas, but it will only be to 4S if I do.

I need to start playing Horn but I can't decide whether to play it on phone or pad. Decisions, decisions.

'Only' a 4S?!

Dude, 3GS to 4S is a PS1 to PS3 style jump. Huuuuuuuge upgrade.

When the next big Chaos Rings or Final Fantasy is out, there library is usually on sale 20% or so.

I guess I'll wait until Final Fantasy: Dimensions then. iOS 6 is so much faster than 5, woah. I know deals will come soon, I'll dl other games In the meantime. One thing I noticed coming from the play store is the not so great interface on the App Store. Maybe apple should rethink the design?

Temple Run on iCade is just too much fun for how simple it is.

Horn looks like it'd definitely an iPad game to me. I'm looking forward to playing it as soon as I finish Bastion.

Have you played Bastion btw? It's goddamn awesome. Everyone should play it.

Ha, ha. For me and you both. I just meant I can't afford to jump on the i5 bandwagon. 4S will definitely be a sweet leap for me, no doubt. And honestly, I just don't see how eager developers are going to be to push that new iPhone 5 hardware too hard and still charge a buck for games. I have this feeling 4S should suffice me for a while.

Priority for the 4in retina screens are probably going to the iPhone 5, unfortunately. I'm still glad they are using the same screens, but still...I'll be utterly astounded if I get my iPod touch 5 by mid-October.

Month #2 of no "i" device.
I'm in the same boat. I sold my 4th generation iPod in anticipation for the new one (and got $230 for it too). It drives me crazy without it considering how much I used to use it every day, especially since we have such a vague release date of "October".

I hate the new store. I don't have an iphone to try it out, but it sucks on my Ipad. Feels slow and clunky. Scrolling isn't smooth, and the pop up window feels cheap. Give me my old store back.
