I really can't stand news stories like this. Now I'm sitting here, waiting for it to pop up on the app store, and, really, Apple is the only one that controls that. Why create undue anticipation for an absolutely nebulous release date?

Well you can submit an app to Apple and have it release as soon as it is ready, or you can submit it to them and set a hard release date (as long as it is far enough in advance that Apple has time to review and approve).

So they could give a definite release date, but it would be farther off than just letting it release as soon as Apple approves it.

maybe. I'm just trying to find a way for the developers to make great money on this product. I think fauna will be an awesome addition. However, I still need some good SIM aspects because the engine is so robust. It's so close to giving us a Spore-like experience!

Absolutely. I'm hoping a lot of folks get behind this one. Perfect implementation, we just need meat on the bone.

No, I get what he means. There's no progression in Counterstrike - you pick it up and play it for however long and other than getting better at the game, you're not getting anywhere. It's just using up time and enjoying the game, as opposed to something like Bioshock where you're going through a story mode, or an MMO where you want to get your character up to level x.

Yeah this is exactly it. I honestly like to browse GAF as my time waster.
I really enjoy it and find it relaxing. With games, I like to experience things such as going through a story or experience depth in the gameplay department for putting in time.

I will check out Ravenloft.

EDIT: I'm learning Japanese, so I'm wondering if anyone can recommend any Japanese strategy/rpg games.

Thanks.

Finally completed Gunman Clive, it's amazing how smooth and responsive the controls are. Never once did I feel like I died from "bad" touch controls. Great music, cool art style, smooth animation, and challenging.

Zoo Keeper Battle update seems pretty clever. Looks like they're doing everything right with this game.

What was the update?

Picked up Dungeon Raid last night per the recommendation thread, and while I don't think I like it as much as 10000000 or Zookeeper it'll probably be worth the $3. Wish it had a more natural difficulty progression instead of just offering four modes right off the bat (been playing on hard), and still think the presentation (and lack of music, especially after how awesome 10000000 is in that department) is lacking. Also I liked the singular goal that 10000000 had, whereas with this I'm not really sure if I'm doing well or just should be aiming to beat my own previous high score.

Anyway, yeah, for $3 it's fun enough.

To anyone interested in downloading "The Simpsons: Tapped Out", I'd recommend against it. My town was erased and apparently this happens at random regardless of your device or status. I played the game for less than a week and put no real money into it, but still very disappointing as I was far into the laborious building part of the game.

Pros:
Lots of episode references
They nailed the look and use the actual voice actors
Seasonal content (Halloween quests are fun)

Cons:
It's a farmville clone. There are no real challenges and the game isn't actually "fun" to play.
Requires you to spend real money to complete certain quests and your town will look like garbage compared to those who spend real money. You will need to buy the $100 package to get everything in the game. You would need to spend $10 to $20 (depending on how many donuts you have stored) to unlock a limited time character and his quests for the halloween episode.
Your town may get erased for no reason and you won't be able to recover it.

Maybe the game did me a favor by erasing my data. I don't get back the time I spent on it, but I sure as hell wont be wasting any more time on it now.

Really? I'm rather enjoying it myself! I can't imagine any reason not to....

Bollocks.

Nothing irritates me more. This happened to me with that match-3 city building game and ruined my day. Now I might quit Tapped Out just in case.

I had it on my iPad for ages, even beofre it was removed first time round. I assumed all the glitches that plagued it before had been fixed now. I loaded up my town the other day and I was back to square one. I'm relieved really. I know eventually I would have spent the necessary cash to get Hank Scorpio's lair!

It is the worst of the worst, despite it's production values. EA Mobile ought to be ashamed. A missed opportunity.

Happy Street is the hotness, if you need a farmville-alike.

I saw Elder Sign: Omens has been updated with new content/campaigns/variety.
I always wanted to try it but other games took over my gaming life...now I'm playing Lunar on iPhone and I could use a game for the iPad too.
Has anyone played it?
Is it fine on iPad 3?
Worthy game?
(I really wish it was universal tough)

Thanks!

I keep going back to Zookeeper Battle. It's so simple, yet it's so good. Looked at the achievements though and cried. Play 5,000 battles is insane itself, but win 3,000 battles? Hahahahaha......

I love the update, more shit to win. This game is friggin crack. I hope they never increase the recharge time though, that will kill the game

I've actually found it entertaining thanks to the references and haven't spent any money. It's a very slick presentation for anyone familiar with the Simpsons. But I rarely play these type of games and don't spend lots of time on it, to be fair.

But if I encounter that bug I imagine I won't bother with it after that.

So after seeing numerous posts about ZooKeeper, I decided to try it out. Thanks for the new crackhead game Gaf... There goes my productivity for the day.

Feel free to add me: PaulSanchez

How would more people playing the game (without paying) kill the game?

Edit: Unless you mean increase in the other direction, of course.

After playing more and thinking about it, I think I can conclude that I like devil's attorney.

Good humor, fun gameplay mechanics ( it's nothing like Phoenix wright, don't even think its similar!) good 'moral standards' aka zero iap or fb twitter review me pestering.

Go watch the first few min of gameplay on YouTube and if you like it, get it.

Do people like Burrito Bison? Looks like it's fun, will probably grab that and Crazy Taxi.

Yeah, I was obsessed with it for a couple of days last week. Now that I've upgraded everything and can get through it with no trouble I haven't been messing with it as much. I may try and get the remainder of the achievements, which is like three left, but other than that I think I'm done with it. Well worth the dollar it costs, in my opinion.

Ivy the Kiwi came out today: http://itunes.com/app/ivythekiwi

Free and paid versions, universal.

I liked this on the Wii but never finished. I imagine it plays well on touch devices.

Anyone know of any U.S. sites that still sell the eGift cards? Can't seem to find any anymore. Apple change their policy on those or something?

After a short play through I'm going to recommend you all check out Dizzywood (it's free)

It's a match three variant where the matching of gems allows you to unlock friendly creatures to attack the monsters that are trying to destroy you. Simple, elegant and really fun.

As long as they've fixed the balance. Nothing worse than nailing a few rounds only to find your opponent gets a health power up, gets one round right and wins on remaining health :/

BTW Just noticed that Topia is developed buy one of the guys behind Populous. I was *just* thinking it looked like Populous when looking at the screens before I actually read the description. Sold.

Do you mean iTunes cards? Or something else?

I tend to snag cheap iTunes cards from eBay. (last one I bought was a $30 card for $24)

Yeah, they were the first place I went to, but neither them or Best Buy seem to have them "in stock" anymore. Since it's digital, it would seem they simply stopped offering them.
Oh, my bad then. I actually bought some maybe six weeks ago. Digital delivery in about 20 minutes. I guess that is no longer an option...

I'm still enjoying the hell out of SMAMC, just set a new score of about 3.5 billion. If anyone else is still playing, I'm Dinner Cat on GC. After adding a ton of GAFfers to GC I only have 7 people who have played SMAMC.

I'm tempted to get Lilli while it's on sale, but exactly do you do in that game? It looks pretty incredible but is it anything more than a tech demo?

Can anyone suggest a game I can play in between studying? I know that's pretty broad but if it helps I like tactical RPGs, strategy, and some puzzles.

I have an iPad and iPhone.

Enjoying Devil's Attorney way more than I thought I would. It and Funky Smugglers seem to be this week's winners.

Edit: Reviews of both will be up on IGN early next week.

I know GAF hates on IGN for being the "big guys" (and for other reasons), but please consider that my channel, the mobile games channel, is run by just me. I've been working hard for over a year to build an editorial product that I think can be really useful to serious mobile gamers, with short reviews that have high production values (many fully-produced video reviews) & reasonable, balanced scores:
