Borderlands to have no IAP... didn't think bigger game spin-offs still did this (also, releases next week)!

Also said to be realtime not turn-based like XCOM. Oh well. There's still hope that maybe Frontline Tactics fills a little of those shoes.

Did you play Battleheart, Minsc? BL:L sounds exactly like that gameplay wise.

Hot damn! This needs it's own thread!

Dodonpachi Maximum is super disappointing. The gameplay is as solid as ever but fuck if the art style isn't completely underwhelming. It starts boring to look at at 6 stages later nothing has changed. This is probably a game for the pure danmaku enthusiasts. For people like me who love the other Cave iOS offerings but are at the level where we can't really tell the difference between Mushihimesama Futari and Black Label, this is probably one to avoid :(

I'm not sure why they picked that one...or the DDP before it. They have more interesting shooters I'd like to see come to iOS, namely Muchi Muchi Pork (and Pink Sweets).

I have an iphone 3gs, and will be dumping it soon and not replacing it with another iphone. I want to keep access to all my purchases though so I'll probably buy an ipad mini. My question is how widespread are universal apps these days? I fear I'll buy an ipad, check my purchases, and see the vast majority as iphone only

Also, punch quest is the best endless runner ever

It's embarrassing. Truly embarrassing.

Is it? Long time iPhone owner and frequent reader/participant of this thread and I honestly agree with the control gripes for games like that. Love the platform but see nothing wrong with people having criticisms of wildly different control schemes being shoehorned onto it (and conversely, nothing wrong with those that don't mind or even enjoy the controls! Room for both types of opinions).

Anyway, unlocked the full version of Letterpress last night after playing a few free games and enjoying that a lot. Great UI, very snappy, and all around just a pleasant time waster.

Most games are universal, and you can always play at 2x if your game is iphone only. (unless it's TWEWY)

Do any of you guys maintain an iOS gaming wishlist? It's something I need to start doing. Every now and then I'll get in one of those moods where I just want to buy shit, but I can never recall all the games I've been recommended since my last buying binge. I just wish there was an easy way of maintaining a list like Steam.

Anyways, nabbed True Skate and Bad Piggies for now. Trippled dipped on PvZ and considering buying Chuzzle just to have every non-hidden object PopCap game in my library.

I use Appshopper that's a must have app. You can save your wishlist too.

TouchArcade app is rather nice for following a game, you get a push when it changes price, has a new video or something, even a review but I don't always agree with TA reviews myself.

If you played the game, fine. I wouldn't play it on iPhone either, honestly. iPad, on the other hand, was very enjoyable.

What is embarrassing is the drive by posters complaining and port begging.

I will grant you that there are plenty of people that hate iOS and rag on the games especially because they feel it threatens their portable platforms of choice (and it does, in some regards).

I love iOS, but dislike action-oriented games that have control schemes originally designed for other platforms (GTA3 for example was really cool for the novelty of having it on a phone, but I personally can't enjoy it after playing it with either a controller or KB/mouse combo).

Really though, I personally view those complaints as a good thing because I'd really enjoy it if eventually it pushed Apple to offer a 1st party tactile controls solution for their platform (similar to that iCade mobile thing, only presumably a heck of a lot sleeker and with wide support). Do I think that'll happen? No, probably not for a lot of reasons, but I'd love the option. Since neither Nintendo, Sony, or even Google is really challenging Apple in any way presently I'm sure they have no reason to go that route.

This, most of those people don't play iOS games at all, they just look for threads with them in and scoot in to shit on them or port beg (which is banned).

I assume they have the time as their Vita's are broken due to all the salty tears getting into the circuits.

There's a fair share of port begging for games to come to iOS too, if you don't complain about that then don't about the other way.

Especially if you're gonna resort to trolling on top of that.

You had a good point and then do the same thing by ragging on the Vita.

Vice City man. Vice City.

I've been shamelessly loving Bad Piggies. Something appealing about chucking together a ramshackle contraption and then watching it smash into pieces as you trigger the rocket booster. I raised an eyebrow when I saw that they'd introduced a really cool sandbox at a price and then I remembered I've had hours of fun for 69p so far and bought it. So good.

True Skate is still great fun to pick up and flick in short bursts, though there isn't much to do really. I'd happily pay for another skate park if the opportunity came up though.

Apart from that, I've spent a whole lot of time playing Simpsons: Tapped Out this week. I know it's a pointless waste of time but it's just so easy to pick up, play for two minutes and then put down again. Simpsons FarmVille. Genius.

I didn't pick it up yet..but I like the clean look, but didn't know all the stages look about the same.. How's the game play though? Sounds like the controls and scoring is simple this time around. I've never been able to completely wrap my head around the different nuances of the scoring and having to switch shots.

Just came across this game:

Hot Beat
https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/hot-beat/id541790834?mt=8

It's a clone of DJ Max Technika. iPad only.

Comes with 4 free songs. There are 2 app purchases but they don't seem to be working at the moment. Songs are from anime btw. Not crazy about these songs but gameplay wise, I'm enjoying it. You HAVE to play on Easy first to unlock the other difficulties.

This game just makes me want a DJ Max Technika port even more.

Also...

Rhythmix:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2cfdzZ733lo

The first 2:11 of this video shows what the old Rhythmix looked like. Straight up Technika. Since then, they had to change it because of patent infringement. The footage you see at the 2:20 mark is what the gameplay will look like now.

This game has already been submitted to Apple so it should be available soon. I'll be keeping an eye out on this one. Can't get enough of these rhythm games.

Grabbed Hot Beat this morning. Seems a bit choppy on iPad 3rd gen, but certainly playable. The music selection is quite laughable though and I'm surprised this made it past certification.

Rhythmix seemed to have some interesting spins on Technika gameplay but apparently not enough. I would hope Technika itself hits iOS someday... assuming Sony didn't get exclusivity.

I'm not sure if it's been talked about, but has anyone played that He-Man game? It looks kind of rad.

I really with the app store had a wishlist like Steam. So if I stumble across an app I may want to check out, I could just toss it in there and find out about it later.

Well shit. Borderlands being exactly like Battleheart ruins it for me. Fuck. I hated Battleheart and all similar games.

It sounds similar, but I'd still hold out for a video before saying it's exactly the same game. I don't remember Battleheart having tons of destructible obstacles that can be used for cover in it, but I never played it very far. We don't even have a video of it yet, seems a bit early to decide it's exactly like Battleheart, but it sounds like it'd have some similarities, but that's not surprising, RTS games in general would share similarities with Battleheart by default.

BURN THE HERETIC!!!

I actively dislike Borderlands (I think i'm just jell because I have nobody to co-op with) but this game has my interest.

Is it all single screen arenas and missions? Meh. Why can't we have a similar battle system in a full RPG a la the IE games.

IGN mobile has a video preview of Borderlands Legends up. It looks like Battleheart to me, which can only be a good thing.

Hmm, I never played Battleheart but watching that video I'm not so sure. I'll probably get it because I love Borderlands, but I'm thinking I'll bore of it fast:)

Also, I saw this on Slide to Play.

In a surprising move, there is no option for in-app purchases-- but 2K said they would consider adding it later if there was a demand, like Infinity Blade did after launch.

Is this going to be a new 'thing'? Not launching with consumable IAP to appease those of us who dislike such 'systems', but then add it later on when people "demand" it. I mean seriously, who would ask to be nickel and dimed? It's more like people will find the game too hard, and 2K's "answer" will be to add consumable IAP. Or maybe I'm just being paranoid:p
