Starting to fucking LOVE Beat Hazard Ultra. Just unlocked Insane mode... Insane at 200% intensity. That shit is where it's at man, this is awesome. Framerate drops when stuff gets super-intense are also not all that noticeable any more on my iPhone 4, they're there but after a reboot and all they're not too noticeable any more to me.

Any good 2 player iPad board games? Preferably in a fantasy setting... playing lord of the rings risk right now and really enjoying it
Sorry to bump such an old post, but really looking for a 2 player iPad game right now, that can be played by a non-gamer :) Thanks

Beat Hazard has been on Xbox Indie Games for like 2 years, the least hyped and underloved community in all of gaming right now :P :P :P

Anyway, played some new games:

Off the Leash - cute graphics, tilt controls where you play as a dog being chased by police officers and you recruit a little pack of dogs which picking up stuff and dodging things. Done very well, is there officially now a "vertical runner" genre? I seem to remember playing a Chinese one that was a bunch of pigs running, I don't know where these games got started from.

Fantasy Runners (title I see is in Japanese, not sure what US title would be) - Sometimes I check out Che Chou's list of played games because somehow he magically comes across gems like this before anyone else. This is just a runner but it's got great graphics, great music and style is a little bit different than other runners in that this one you pretty much have to mash attack button so the trick is to actually remember to stop mashing and jump when you need to. You unlock classes and then when you have multiple classes unlocked they trail behind you as you progress along. It's kind of funny to one shot huge bosses before they barely are on the screen. Anyway, it was only $1, I'm curious to see what the later RPG classes are (first two are knight and archer)

Downloaded Spice Invaders and bunch of other games...

Is Dariusburst worth the price? I think I missed the impressions posts (if there were any)..

A few people posted impressions (go back to Wednesday/Thursday). I don't remember anybody saying anything especially negative. Apparently it's a fine port and a good value compared to the PSP import version. For me, it's still too expensive on a week when a DonDonPachi game came out for $5 and Pinball Arcade is keeping me plenty busy.

Don't tempt me bhoy!

Also i bought Beat Hazard Ultra and Real Racing 2. Yeah I can see why dedicated Handhelds are in trouble when those 2 games cost me just under $4.

Also Tiny Tower is like crack.

Megamall Story? You tried that right? If Tiny Tower is crack than that one should be some dangerous mix of Heroin, Meth and Crack.

So this isn't the thread for this, but I don't know what the thread would be called. Anyone know a good app for chatting? I have an AIM and a Gmail chat that I use all the time. At work, I just use Trillian, but I'm on my iPad all the time at home, so it would be nice to have a chat program here that I could use. Any thoughts?

Not sure what you need exactly but I use AIM and imo for everything else (imo has Gchat, among many other protocols).

I've only played Tomena Sanner on Wii, and while it's fun and wacky, I don't think it has anything at all in common with Rhythm Heaven/Tengoku(?).

This might come off as a bit of self promotion, but, if you like Rhythm Heaven I guess you'll get a kick out of our game Beat Sneak Bandit, which will be released next week. It's way more puzzley than RH, but It's got the same thing going as RH - rhythm gameplay not based on falling/blinking tiles tiles alá Guitar Hero etc.

Sorry if this is a bit off-topic, but after watching all the trailers for BSB I really can't figure out the controls...

I can see that you have to do everything at the right time but how do you tell the game that you want to, for example, turn around instead of continuing forward? Or to climb stairs etc?

That music though. Looking forward to it!

Trillian ios app is great because all your history syncs (not sure if there is an ipad version though).

beejive is great for ipad even though it's costly. im+ is also good.

Everything is controlled by tapping on beat. Basically: Tap = Next possible action, and most of the time that's a step. If the bandit is standing next to a wall or a door/whatever, he'll turn around, or if he's facing a stair case he'll climb it... And so on..
Thing is, all the puzzles in the game are based around this - finding the right places to turn, where to fall down (and WHEN!), which way you should face when falling through a trap door... and so on.
Try to think of it like a context sensitive one button Game & Watch game. I'd say it's more of a puzzle game with a rhythm based interface, than a rhythm game with puzzles if that makes any sense :)

It's described in most of the hands on, like here, here or here!

Oh okay, I think I get it... So the bandit is sort of perpetually walking forward, or any of the similar actions such as climbing a staircase, BUT the environment around him is changing and you have to wait for the perfect moment in order to pass. And then there's the additional challenge of having to move along with the rhythm!

Yep that makes a lot of sense, and watching the gameplay videos again I definitely 'get' the way you go around the levels. Cannot wait! :)

I use imo for instant messaging, seems to work well. I switched from AIM after the latest AIM update. Didn't like that at all

2 player fantasy? Has to be Smallworld. Carcassonne is lighter and easier for a non-gamer to approach (though Smallworld is simple, even moreso on the iPad) and incredibly addictive, but it isn't really fantasy. Though the medieval look and feel should be appealing.

Yay!
We went through soooo many interfaces with this one, untill we settled for this super simplified one. That's not to say it's easy. This is the least casual game of the games we've made - but it's fair, with a very distinct rule set. When you fail, it's always because you panic or didn't plan your route enough.

Deleted Tiny Tower while i still had the free will. I was getting obssessive over it even though there is basically nothing to do in that game, but restocking floors and building levels. I made it to like Floor 24 or something.

Can't stop playing.

64 here...pretty much past the point of no return. Halp.

I played about 7 floors and then realized it was some janky, unfun shit. I don't understand the love for tiny tower, but I cant argue with the success it has had. People must like it, but I cant understand why.

It's like crack. Feels good the first couple of times, then it's got you by the balls. I want to stop, I really do, but the urge to finish off the achievements is too strong. Fuck Skyburger too. Fool me once...

After seeing that Internet radio was in, I went ahead and got Beat Hazard. I'm really liking the single stick mode - makes it a lot easier to get into casually.

Went back to Space Miner, and it's now my go-to game on iPhone. I tried it a while back when it was free, but I didn't really give it a chance. Been scouring for something more substantial lately, though, and this seems to fit the bill nicely. A very nice formula and a surprisingly entertaining story for a $2 game.

If you're into really shmups I'd say it's worth it. The price is so high because it's still a relatively new game, outside of it being a port. It's not a bullet hell game. It's more like how shmups were before that came to be. Graphically it looks great, soundtrack is just awesome.

I prefer single stick. Hitting the powerups in dual stick was bugging me so I tried it out and ended up staying with it. Had to change the stick to 'fixed' though because the floating one keeps floating after you've placed your thumb.

Love it every bit as much as the PC version. It's worth the RSI in my fingers.

Okay duders! I just bought my first iPhone yesterday (4S). Now I need to get some games!

Quick question: I know Infinity Blade II has gotten a lot of love; is that mostly off of the iPad version? As in, is this still a must-buy game if you only have an iPhone and not an iPad?

Yes, it's still a must buy. And in fact I think it runs a bit better on the 4S than an iPad 2. I haven't actually compared them to confirm that but before it was released I seem to recall Epic claiming that. Also, some people on here have said IAP is required to progress after a certain point. Again, can't confirm that so hopefully someone else can chime in.

There is but I cant remember the name of it. It's in my purchased history because I got it for free sometime last year. I'll go look for it since I have nothing better to do right now.

EDIT- Found it. It's called Angry Honey and it's free.

Tomena Sanner is the only one I can think of.

Thanks will try these.

But man, why is the iOS platform lacking these type of games? Arghh.

Single stick and fixed for me here as well. I generally like moving virtual controls, but these just moved too much that I couldn't be accurate at all.

space miner is up there for me. you get a lot of game for its asking price. loved it so much I got both versions -iPad/iPhone.

That's something I wouldn't mind looking at... is there a way to automatically check if there's an update to an item you've purchased but haven't installed? There could well be a heap of apps I'd like to get into again with a new update but haven't bothered checking.
