So very LTTP, but I started playing grand prix story a few days ago and it has me completely hooked. Been up until 1am over the weekend playing it. It's so hard to describe why, it seems so simple and gentle.

Any tips? Currently on my second playthrough, year 10 and finishing about halfway in the final GP. I carried over the wing car and V10 from my previous game, but research points were really scarce at the beginning, and my team struggled to even fit the v10 for a few years.

And what should be next on my kairosoft list? I have most of them I think, I just couldn't play them while my kids were hogging the iPad - I bought them their own iPad 2 so now I'm free :)

I have
- grand prix story
- mega mall story
- hot springs story
- pocket academy
- game dev story

I do not remember who adviced me about about the game long time ago, but I finally caved in and bought StarBase Orion.

And I'm already hopelessy addicted to it, while not being a 4X fan at all.
The game is sooooooo much more fun than I thought it would be in the very beginning...and I'm really glad about it....I was fearing to have buyer remorse after 5 minutes.

Instead, on my second game (small, easy) it really clicked on me and I played almost the whole night (not a great idea) without noticing, watching even a HUGE SPACE BATTLE (more than 50 starships).
While there, there is MUCH less micromanagement than I thought...or at least the UI makes it really flawless...there is always something (but not too much) happening and you have always control.

I should have bought it before.

Epic Astro Story.

Was probably me or Pylon, glad you like it. Game needs more GAF love!

Pocket league Story - its not even close ;-)

I keep recommending it too, despite not even owning it... same with Ravenmark lol. (But that I own by now, thanks to awesome devs reading this thread). But yeah, I keep waiting for a weak bored moment of mine and then I'll buy it. I have it in appshopper and keep seeing how it's getting these huge awesome updates :/

'Liking it' doesn't even come close.

The ONLY similar game I liked in the past was Star Wars: Rebellion, but the setting played a huge role (loved sending Han Solo or Princess Leia as spies and get them captured by Darth Vader).
Every other try at the genre was an utter fail for me...

But...for some reason this game really clicked on me...probably it's the UI, or the fact it's so easy to queue orders or plan only a general focus when you colonize a planet, and the turn onward till something happens....there is always something to do, but not in a overwhelming manner and I find a LOT less micromanagement than I thought (or a boring one).

Anyway, thanks you both for recommending the game, I own you a big headache (played all night and now I'm devasted at work) :P

My brother taught himself Xcode, made an app and got it published on the App Store in the space of about a month. Which is pretty impressive.

It's also free and awesome. It's called Font Quiz.

Would be awesome if you checked it out.

I wish I held off. Paid $1.99, and imo, it's not even worth that. Terribly boring... and I'll buy and play just about anything on iOS.

Yeah, got it free too from freeappdaily, and I erased it fairly quickly. It's a really beautiful game with surprisingly moving music, but...well, it just isn't fun to play. The "gameplay" is very basic, repetitive, and tedious.

Ooooooh, Star Wars Rebellion, that brings me back... my favorite 4X game. Still have the original in mint conditions. I wish they would port that to iOS.

I only played one match of Starbase Orion and for some reason it didn't really clicked with me. Though I will try again, but for now I'm waiting for the update that will add leaders.

I'm glad it wasn't just me then, this game was boring as hell and I like wanky arty games. Even the fun parts were less than fun.

The bolded is top quality. Pocket Academy and Hot Springs are fine but its their "sim city -ish" frame model and in that case, Venture Town and Epic Astro are better imo.

Game Dev Story is on the same frame as Grand Prix and is fantastic.

Mega Mall is unique and also fucking great.

It is more to your advantage to try to max out one of the first two cars with Auras before the game 'ends' and carry that car over. You'll start the game with a HUGE advantage and breeze through most of the rest of it.

I found Grand Prix to be one of the more replay-able of the Kairo series. Can't find anything in Astro Story to bring me back for another go around.

Have we gotten anymore of an ETA on Baldurs Gate? I'm hesitant to spend any more on the store lest I miss it and not have enough funds to pick it up at release.

The game has a release timeframe of generic Summer 2012.
A recent tweet from Trent Oster hinted a September release...but from what they told I'm guessing it could be pushed back a bit (right now they are still designing the new UI).

Lol, what a bummer. Jubeat is infinitely better than Jukebeat, simply because of the song selection.

It's pretty obvious there are attempts to appeal to different musical tastes, so I don't think I'd rush to brand one "better" than the other. Besides, the Gloria Estefan pack gets a ton of play here.

Of course I'm saying this at the same time I'm preparing to add funds to my JP iTunes account because of the Niconico pack incoming on Friday...

I tried Time of Heroes: Zero (free) last night. A turn-based strategy game that was pretty widely well-reviewed.

Man, it was so bad. I don't know what was more to blame, the mechanics of how they decided to handle battles or using the iPad itself as an interface. The game moved like molasses and the animation of the battles were awful.

I'm going to take another stab at it tonight and see if I can get into it. Complete a couple scenarios before I make a firm decision on it. Makes me wish 1C would get into iOS games and port over Fantasy Wars.

What resources did he use to teach himself Xcode??

I don't know if it's been talked about in here but Infinity Blade 2 is getting a large update this week.

http://www.joystiq.com/2012/05/21/unleash-the-power-of-liking-in-infinity-blade-2s-vault-of-te/

Several new enemies are being added, as well as "more than 50 new items" and rewards. Most bizarrely, the ability to "earn extra turns and invite their friends, family, and other non-Infinity Blade players to do in-game damage with the power of liking and re-tweeting battle calls." You read that right, folks: "the power of liking and re-tweeting battle calls." In the biz, we call that a "paradigm shift." Also, awful.

I'm not on Facebook or Twitter but the battle call thing sound awesome.

I just found out about an upcoming strategy game called Autumn Dynasty that looks to be pretty cool. It's got a similar art style to Sega's awesome Samurai Bloodshow using the scroll/painting motif. It seems to be a RTS game of some sort with special abilities and upgrades but it is difficult to tell too much about the gameplay from the trailer. Game seems to be in beta at the moment.

edit: I was wrong, game is currently waiting for approval so hopefully it'll be out soon.

Holy shit, this game looks awesome.

Holy shit, this game looks awesome.

And I just found out I was wrong about having no idea when it'll come out. I was looking at their website and they announced two days ago on Twitter they are waiting for Apple's approval, so it'll probably be coming out sooner rather than later.

And.... Autumn Dynasty looks awesome. Here is a long demonstration of the game, can't wait:

The dev posted a topic over on TA Friday night, I was really hyped until I read this review on the Symbian version:
http://www.allaboutsymbian.com/reviews/item/12860_Autumn_Dynasty.php

Tempered my enthusiasm a little.

That's a bit old though, so let's hope they've beefed it up considerably in the time since.
Multiplayer certainly will help broaden the appeal I would think.

If anything that review should at least give you a little more info on the gameplay.

Sure looks pretty, though.

Seems like they have added a story to the game in addition to the skirmish mode and multiplayer. Either way, I'm excited for another iOS strategy game, hopefully this one is fun.

On a side note, everyone, I got an email from a guy at Rio Grande Games saying that the official Dominion app will be revealed at Origins later this month, and released 'shortly after'. Get pumped!

Oh snap. I have two friends going to Origins that have been waiting for this app, they are gonna be super happy.

Tell him to please please please keep updating this. Some proper head scratchers in there, but extremely enjoyable. Good 30 minute distraction, would love to see an update adding a bunch more characters. Maybe bands? TV shows? Cartoons? More more more!!!

Yay! Another 1+ Gb update. I'm done with that crap. I'm just gonna delete it. What happened to incremental updating? I thought it was made possible with ios 5(I could be wrong) but I have not seen it yet. It is sorely needed.

Hey guys, it´s probable that I will buy an iPad next week and one of my main focus will be playing. I have enjoyed gaming on iPhone and I think I want to buy more games and explore more stuff on iPad, I feel a bit limited by the smaller screen of the iPhone.

Could you tell me if it´s worth? I'm worried about image quality and if the experience is better than playing with iPhone.

Is that only if you update through the device itself? What if you update through itunes and then sync?

Saw some people from my university posting about this on Facebook looks like your brother has done well

The Pfizer logo/font surprised them

Edit: actually looks like it was some logo quiz game... Awkward

I think using those parts of logos is against Apple's ToS, and might actually amount to copyright infringement if you haven't cleared them with the proprietors. Not that I'm gonna report you, but you want to make sure you've cleared each and every logo, and doublechecked the guidelines and stuff.

(Similarly, you can't just naively use random fonts in your apps, for instance)

Apple only ever said iOS 5 would bring incremental OS updates, not apps.

Considering OSX doesn't even have incremental app updates, it's highly unlikely iOS will.

Seems like they played a very primitive version of the game, because according to the Gamestop video walkthrough there is a story mode as well as building and resource management in skirmish mode.

Seriously, this looks really good. Can't wait.
