Im guessing you're playing the vita/evo version (?) which had some weird lowres font for ui/dialogue. Wasn't a problem in the psp version.

He had a great VA that match well with him. Maybe that why :p

Yep EVO versions the font is weirdly a little blurred at times.
I can see that being the reason. I think it also helps that they establish or hint at a strong personal motivation really fast. Lloyd despite being the typical goody two shoes still feels like a person because of that, it's noticeable because Rean feels so aimless most of the time and events force his motivation instead of his personal agency for a large chunks of the games(to be fair that was kind of the intention for Rean I guess).

I just noticed there is a trophy to finish the game not over lvl 40 hope I haven't disqualified myself for that. Hunting to complete the notebook has made me lvl 14 in chapter one.

Starting up the two Sky games after finishing the cold steel games

Are there any characters that make cameos? That i'll notice from cold > sky?

also
FeelsCrowMan

Pls write back when the best cameo happens, you'll instantly know when. :)

Two big ones, and two minor characters that I can recall off the top of my head.
EDIT: oop, and one more you won't see until well into SC

I'm trying to work these out and failing. Obviously
Olivier
is a major one and
Anton and Ricky
are minor ones. Only other I can think of is
Mueller
but they aren't major. And one from late in SC?
Osborne
is mentioned but doesn't appear. I'm sure I'll kick myself when I realise.

Late SC spoilers:
Zechs shows up during the whole thing with Erebonia.

Mueller
is the most major of all.
Or have you forgotten that he holds the rank of Major?
(And on a more serious note, he does have a pretty major role in SC)

The other one for SC would be
Bleublanc

Edit. Oh, and
Zechs
as well, as mentioned above. Can't believe I forgot that.

I'm thinking on buying avita, which kiseki games are there?

Trails in the Sky and Trails in the Sky SC are available digitally as PSP games. Trails of Cold Steel and Trails of Cold Steel II are native on the Vita.

For the Japanese language games, all of them are available on the Vita currently.

Don't forget
Peyton, the mechanic
!

Another one of those great recurring characters. I enjoyed seeing him again in the Cold Steel games after some time had passed.

I'm kicking myself for forgetting about
Bleublanc
while I did remember about
both Mueller and Zechs
:lol. But yeah, a few characters from Erebonia pop up here.

I just beat The Legend of Heroes: Trails of Cold Steel today

What a game

76 hours as well

I played it on PS3, and have the sequel ready to go (also on PS3)

Will it automatically ask me if I want to carry my save data from the first game over when I press New Game in the sequel, or is there anything I need to do to ensure this happens?

You'll get asked when starting up a new game if you want to import. Nothing special required.

I beat Trails of Cold Steel after 140 hours with Rank A0 without using a guide and getting S rank in each chapter.

I am going to need a while to collect my thought but needless to say I enjoyed the game a LOT even if a lot of the chapters where a bunch of character and world building without a proper payoff for most them in this game.

Music was so on point and the combat was really great and I enjoyed the new Quartz system (is going to be thought to go back and try to replay FC and play SC for the first time) and some of the new additions to combat.

That ending tho... oh well, will enjoy the pay-off next year when I play the sequel since I decided to start my replay of the FFXIII trilogy first =P

Always good to have a break imo ; I tried to play CS2 immediately after finishing CS1 - Was super hard so I put it off for a few months and just finished it earlier this week, and oh my it was so great

Now I'm starting the Sky series for the first time ;o

Mueller
had a criminally small amount of screen time in both Cold Steel games :/

Yeah, there is so much Uguu~ and character interactions I can tolerate even if they are well written.

One thing I love about this series is how the NPC's are living their own lives in this world! I think I shrieked a bit during the school festival when I saw
Butler Carrigan
inside the main building and then during the afternoon I saw
Annabelle
in the entrance and I braced myself for the conclusion of that little arc.

One thing that got me off-guard was the section before the Final Chapter
in which Rean says that "Would love to talk about this but it would take us hours" and then went to read the transcript of the Drama CD and lol at the cut content and also a shame because it seems that they meet the other 4 heads of the Great Houses so it would have been cool to see them interact with Class VII before the events of the ending

EDIT: Oh, and I also have to say that I hate Millium so much, UGH!

Are those sagas? like if I play them I will see from the beggining to the end?

Trails in the Sky and SC form a complete story. There is an epilogue called Trails in the Sky the 3rd that will only be released on PC in the west, but the story for Trails in the Sky wraps up reasonably well at the end of SC.

Ditto for Cold Steel I and II. Cold Steel III will be PS4 only, but Cold Steel II brings an end to the main narrative thrust of the previous two games. There are unanswered questions and plot points set up for future games, but the game doesn't end on a cliffhanger or anything.

Can't really blame you for making the comparison. Was joking earlier because I didn't want spoil too much information but Falcom obviously had different of handling the two protags. Not going lie because of this I didn't really had the best impression of Rean when I've first played Sen.

My first playthrough was 95 hours. My platinum run to wrap up the loose ends put me at about 135 hours. Cold Steel 2 was even longer!

I plan on replaying all 4 games once 3rd gets a date too.

Absolutely. He needs his own game.

Him, Neithardt and Toval escort Prince Olivert on a road trip to meet his bride to be.

Honestly an open world trails game would be pretty god tier, but would be a completionist nightmare. Plot has you in northern erebonia but their is a hidden side quest located in the southern reaches of Calvard that is only available in a small window

Hoo boy, I finished Trails in The Sky earlier today. I bought the game on a whim during the fall sale on Steam, I wasn't expecting to be pulled in as much as I did. Overall an awesome game, I already bought the SC but I'm not gonna jump into it just yet.

Sigh that ending though, it really got me.

Chapter 1 Zero stuff/unorganized thoughts and impressions
So I believe I'm pretty far into chapter 1 but not sure how far. I just met the wolf.
And what the hell why can Tio talk to that monster. I was a bit lukewarm on Tio so far given that her shtick is just being so tired and annoyed at things, but that intrigued me. Did I miss something? Everyone just accepts it and here my curiosity is through the roof :D

Also I can't quite put my finger on it but I feel like Randy's last name has appeared in the series before. I sounds somewhat familiar.

I have not been able to spot Rixia in town since I met her searching for a place to stay at city hall.

Elie is probably upper class? Given how skittish she behaves when you go to one of the fancy houses in the residential district(she makes a comment to egg you to move on) + the IBC thing. Curious why she hides it.

I met Estelle and Joshua before that. What great fan service. The voices surprised me a little definitely not how they sounded to me in my head. I'll get used to it but it weirded me a bit out.

I also absolutely believe that I met Renne's real father? It's so weird for a random merchant/trader to have his own portrait and then that hair color, I mean anime eugenics are so straight forward. They also have a son now. Super curious where this will go.

So far I played Trails in the Sky FC. I am 2 hours into the game.

A few questions:
1.: Can I make the dialogue autoscroll without a button press?
2.: Will I see characters from Sky FC (I call dibs on that as an artist's name if it isn't already taken)? I think I spotted
Olivier at the welcome ceremony.
3.: Going by question number two I take it that
Cold Steel plays before Sky FC? Are there characters that had a cameo in Sky FC? I'm not good with names.

Sky is the first in the current story. CS starts a few years after Sky.

Still talking about Zero stuff. Related to the quoted spoilers.

Tio's got a lot going for her. Her being annoyed at stuff took awhile to warm on me, but I started finding it hilarious by the time Ao rolled around, too. It gets better once you meet another character in Crossbell- he's a great character and is a great foil to her. (Though I should say she's a foil to him. xD) --I just don't remember if he shows up in chapter 1, but you'll see him soon if you haven't.

I have not been able to spot Rixia in town since I met her searching for a place to stay at city hall.

She gets a bigger role in stuff later.

There's no real specific class system in Crossbell like Erebonia has- it's the wealthy and poor here. You're definitely picking up on it, though. You should learn that real soon- since that doesn't stay under the radar for long.

Yeah I was basically just in the mode of "there's clearly a reason you're behaving this way" so just waiting for the game to go more into it.
I also met her superior at the IBC but I kind of fucked up and accidentally skipped dialog, so I didn't get the full context for that scene. So I'm actually not sure if he was trying to secretly dote on/support her without her getting annoyed or if he was avoiding her for some reason.

Looking forward to it. I liked her in Sen II fighting wise, thought she was cool. So I guess until she's going to appear later in the story again, no more optional scenes with her?

Yep I was more referring to she seemed to come from a wealthy background, was just clumsy in my choice of words. Looking forward too it.

Erebonia is an expansionist empire and in the other Trails game its prime minister has the reputation as an opportunistic warmonger. [Cold Steel II Divertissement]
Naturally anyone involved with its military force would not be seen in a favorable light the moment the point of view switched to people outside of the county.

Scrooge said it above, but the Erebonian Empire are basically the bad guys in the Trails-verse. The CS games subverted their big bad status by adding in good and grey people, but those in power have always been painted as antagonistic since way back at the very beginning of Sky FC.

Do we really need the "other games" to draw that conclusion though? I mean [Cold Steel 1 & 2 spoilers]
the Erebonian games themselves are pretty much about a civil war triggered due to resentment building up throughout the fringe elements of empire due to the expansionist policies of the warmongering Prime Minister over the last decade. Lol. I can't say the military force of the empire is seen in favorable light even in these games themselves!

Regarding Osborne being an "antagonist" though... [Cold Steel 2 ending spoilers]
I still don't buy it. I know a lot of fans are going to disagree with me, and I could be wrong because Falcom could take the easy solution. But I don't feel he is being built up as a big villain. I think he is being built up as a major martyr fighting the "good fight" against the "true evil in the world". Yes he is ambitious. Yes he is ruthless. But where does all this lead him? Why does he need so much power? Because he's going to fight something worse. He probably won't win, but I don't see him as a simplistic man who is doing it all just for more power or more territory. I also think that people like the Iron Bloods won't just follow him blindly just because he brought them together. Rufus in particular is far smarter and more logical than most characters and if Osborne is just in it for power, there's no reason for Rufus to be so loyal. There's something behind it all.

I also think Osborne is a lot less evil than he's played up to be. He actually seems to be driven to do good, we just hear of those negatively affected by his policies. The railway expansion into Jurai wasn't an evil act, for example, even if it resulted in what happened to Crow. Plus with stuff like Ouroboros, witches, whatever McBurn is, and (presumably) vampires existing, Osborne seems pretty tame in comparison. He was even fighting against the class system. I'm not saying he's a good guy, but he definitely seems like he has some nuance to him.

Osbourne is definitely an antagonist. He's been at odds with the protagonists and has actively worked against them in every single arc.
I agree he's not being brought up as the "big villain" but I don't really think anyone is.

Now I'm pretty sure, thanks to these posts, that Chancellor Osborne is not only alive from Crow's assassination attempt (that would be super lame though but hey no one ever fucking dies in those damn games), but also a major villain down the line. I mean OK I guess I kind of suspected but geez, isn't this thread supposed to be "SPOILER TAGS OR DIE"?

So I've beatean Trails FC,SC and Cold Steel I and I'm looking getting into CS II soon. The thing is I think I've read somewhere that it's better to play Trails 3rd before CS II. So I don't know if I should wait for the 3rd and play that before CS II. Can any Kieski expert elaborate on that?

Not really. The things explained in the 3rd would have been already used and seen in CS1.

I am currently playing CS2 and there's more connections to Zero/Ao rather than the 3rd, but you can enjoy the games as it' own thing.

It's better to have played The 3rd before doing CS2's NG+ exclusive quest, so if you're going through the first game the first time, you'll be fine with having played just CS1.
