finished up Left Behind last night, let the credits music play through. Just started up Part 2. It’s pretty amazing looking for a PS4 game and the framerate boost on PS5, plus the OLED I have now makes it really pop, but coming right off Part 1 remake? There’s definitely a downgrade. It looks great, but you can tell the difference.

60FPS tho 💪

I dunno if Grounded is for me, I got up to the part in the Gym at the school with 1 Shotgun shell, I was heavily relying on Bill here to take out runners but my god do enemies love focussing on you and only you. I scraped by though

Playing this you can see where the Ellie from TLOU2 was born.
Yeah, replaying Part I made me appreciate so many things about 2

Like the note that Joel find that about a woman avenging her son. And he's like "with that line of thinking, no one wins", so it perfectly connects to Part 2 storyline.

There are tons of little things like that I cant remember right now, but once I spoted during gameplay I went "a-ha"

Guys, the OT has the following Behind-the-Scenes videos, so I am posting below what's missing, just for the record (The Announcement and Launch trailers are not considered BTS).

Well since Uncharted: Legacy of Thieves Collection was released back in January on PS5, and PC version is coming out next month, expect TLOU1 PC release next year.
Next year? Aight bet. I hear TLOU1 is worth waiting for so I don’t mind.

It’s a shame that it takes Ellie til the very end of Part 2 to drop the revenge, one of my biggest issue with the story tbh was that that last section was not needed at all and felt tacked on

In a sense yes, the game could have ended right there after the theater confrontation

But I think that Ellie wouldnt have moved on after that. Neither would Abby. She would go after Ellie.

At the theater Abby was enraged. She didnt need to go there, she went there to avenge her friends deaths.

If Ellie have beaten her there, Abby would still go after her.

Abby and Ellie had to loose all to finally have enough of the revenge stuff. By the end of the game, Abby had lost everything, so had Ellie.

The pacing of the game wasnt great, it was too damn long, but I can see the purpose of everything thats there

Right now I'm replaying Part II, I'm at the start of the Abby part, and i'm kinda bored by that section where you go places with Manny and Mel

But I get it, it's necessary for you to get acquainted with these characters, and maybe even make you care about them

I think that the game is like one whole season of a TV show cramped together. It would work so much better episodically.

I think if they'd have split it up into Part 2 and then 3 it could've worked and maybe had Joels death be a lot further in the game (seriously its in the first hour!)

The hardest part of the game is when you are in the blizzard being hunted.

I think overall, this game is stunning, and I kind of hate it when people refer to it as a movie game. I liked the whole game. It's hard to say what part I like the most, but it's probably the hospital level towards the end when you have to evade the soldiers.

I go stealth through most of the game saving everything for that final level so I can go full on psycho.
Edit: also the flashlights in the new version make the level so much cooler, seeing all the lights bobbing around while you're hunting everyone down.

You mean the suburbs, right? It can be a fun challenge, but it's also bullshit.

I got the drop on him; I creep all the way around to the demolished house on the sniper's right and position myself at an angle where I have a clear sightline but he can't see me. His dome is dead center in my rifle's crosshairs. I pull the trigger and... NOTHING!!! I love the game but hate cheap shit like this. Deny me my glory for the sake of cutscene and plot progression 😡
Its the part just after the Hotel in Pittsburgh, where Ellie is sniping

On Ground the Enemies notice EVERYTHING and can see you from so far away

I think I may be hard stuck here, I have 1 Hunting Rifle Bullet and at least 6 enemies, I can take out 3 or 4 fine with Ellie supporting but its too much, stealth is an option sure but this AI is so damned hard to outdo in this small area

I'm currently in the winter season of the game and I actually wish Sony decided to release the PS5 versions of 1 and 2 together. It would've made for an incredible experience playing these back to back. Overall, I've been trying to take my time with the game, loot everything and stealth most scenarios. They've been times where the AI flanked me so well that I didn't even know they were behind me until I heard them yell

Yea this part is just shit, so I finally get down to just the sniper and maybe 2 or 3 enemies on the ground floor, if they are alerted in anyway, 3 more spawn at the bottom of the section.

I'm all for a test of skill but this feels unfair

You made me remember, they should have some descendants of the Latino gangs as well in the game... Or those rednecks killed them?

Anyway, just a thought 🤔 they could be "good" bad guys.

The strat from ps3 still works there - go left up the stairs, stay crouched behind a wall before dropping down - wait for enemies to spawn, wai tsome more till they’re all gone into the house and alleys on yor right, take down one guy camping next to the house where your drop down and just run straight through the far fence and around the houses to the back entrance of the middle one where the sniper is. You’re pretty much safe all the way, even on grounded

Edit: ok I see this is not THE sniper section you mean, nvmd

Has it been confirmed that Last of Us 2 will also get a remake? Part of me wants to continue my save of the first game on the PS4, which I barely started, but I'm willing to wait and play both on PS5 instead.

It got a PS5-ish update like God of War did, technically still classed as a PS4 game but has some performance features of 5 like 60fps at 4k

No confirmation, but it's very likely we are getting some form of director's cut when the inevitable PC version launches.

Apparently, too stupid isn't stupid enough for you. It was YOU who brought up my past suggestion of RT usage. Which is why I followed up with the response discussing PS4 vs PS5 cubemap implementation. Either keep up or STFU.
You're the one either purposely being obtuse, or ignorantly fanboying. Light bounce from flashlights was already tech implemented a long time ago, it's not a new technique for the series, or even the hardware. And then you are calling people stupid for calling you out.

Ok, exactly 10 hours in, just met Henry and Sam and feel I can give some thoughts

Please keep in mind I'm playing on Grounded this time, I have finished the Original and Remaster before and this is my first time on this Difficulty some opinion may vary

Pros

  • This looks amazing, like seriously one of the best looking games on PS5 right now (I could argue that I prefer Spiderman and Demons Souls as well but I think this edges it)
  • The AI has vastly improved, I checked out some old footage of the Original and compared it to this, it's night and Day, enemies act like humans do, their vison to something in front or close to them is realistic enough here, sometimes too realistic!
  • The gameplay feels tight and responsive for the most part, there's been 1 or 2 occasions where I was beaten to the punch (Literally!) where I feel I really shouldn't have, but that made me learn for next time
  • Its tense! I always felt TLoU was kind of easy for a survival horror, but this reminds me so much more of RE where you have to be so careful with resources

Cons

  • Grounded feels far too harsh sometimes, the lack of Ammo and resources for example can be a bit too much and Enemies have infinite compared to you, I must've had 4 Arrows and not had the materials to craft anymore since I had the bow, I like a lot of the changes like the lack of Listen Mode and the Enemies are not Bullet sponges compared to you, it shares that common rule which is so so nice(aside from Bloaters)
  • Some encounters are just fucking cheap, the Financial District of Pittsburgh where you go from Car Crash, to Hotel, to Sniper Alley, to a Turret Chase is an excellent and tense sequence, on anything but Grounded, there are far too many Enemies that spawn in at random times, enemies that are a bit too accurate and of course can spot you from a mile away and be that accurate with a Pistol. Honestly I considered dropping the game here and it wasn't playing by its own rules, for example the Sniper Alley
    • Ellie is supporting with Sniper Shots, but misses constantly and enemies don't react to her shots at all
    • There are 6 Enemies total, but once you alert one of them, they all know where you are immediately, if you are inside, you are dead as Ellie cannot help at all
    • Oh btw, alert any of these and 3 more enemies spawn at the other end of the map you are on and know where you are, one of them has armor on
    • Even if you stealth kill all 6 (Which I did) these 3 spawn still and better yet, another 4 spawn in at some point, stealth or no stealth
  • Tbh the Turret Section after this, is not too bad but you cannot make a single mistake
  • Health doesn't seem to carry over when you fail a checkpoint and try again, I tend to avoid being shot but generally you can take a hit but not when reloading a checkpoint when Health is back to one shot
  • The Companion AI can be fucking downright awful, the Boss fight with the first Bloater with Bill for example, I have to almost keep moving whilst Bill takes out the Runners and my god would he just not attack them at all, there are a many times earlier on where Tess was right next to an enemy looking for us(and I mean literally standing there) and she did nothing, it was ludicrous
  • It was £70! I know I paid for it (well I had a decent discount on PSN credit so it cost me about £45) but yea at a cheaper price point it was a no brainer, its a damned good game!

This conversation is nearly a week old; I regret much of my language and childish name calling (bad day, sincere apologies Hugare Hugare ), and while I still hold on to my position that lighting in TLOU Remake is more advanced than Pt. 2, I am beyond tired of discussing or arguing back and forth about it.

I will say though, I’m impressed with the Dual Sense and 3D audio stuff here (using the Pulse headphones) and it’s helping a lot in sections

The 3D audio and haptics are fantastic, and this is coming from someone who thought the features would be nothing more than gimmicks leading up to PS5 release.

It hasn't.

But since they're releasing TLOU 1 on PC, I would guess they have plans to release the second game on PC, too.

It would be kind of odd to release TLOU 2 on PC and have PC gamers wonder why it doesn't include features that are included in TLOU 1. Because of this, I would assume they're going to make a PS5/PC version.

Outbreak Day is on the 26th and hopefully we get an update.

Finally past the Suburbs Sniper section, and honestly not too bad on Grounded, can you even fail the Sniping?

This game does look fantastic, the Dam being a major highlight, it feels real, the puddles on the floor especially

Still off to my most favorite source of frustration I feel this playthrough - The University

As a aside, is there any non game media to grab? Like I wanna know what happened to the rest of the world

are there any trophies tied to difficulty ?
Nop. Fortunately. You can play this in one go and then a 2nd time to upgrade your character (or if you missed collectibles, optional conversations etc).
Since you have so many accessibility features and bonus like "one-shot kill", if you just want to platinum this you can just play the game like that your 2nd time, lmao.

Well, thanks to a discount I caved in. This game has been my favorite of all time, so in the end i'd rather play this at its best than whatever is on the market right now.

And i'll be damned, i'm impressed af. I've been replaying Part II these couple of days and the difference with this one (Performance) is fucking massive, actually feels like Part II is on Medium settings and this one Ultra!
Even though i've already noticed some shadows not being on par with the rest.. most are top of the line, RT-good, but others obviously not and how couldn't ND improve on this obviously lacking aspect of their Engine even on PS5 is beyond me.

Still, super glad I bought it. My pregnant girlfriend sat next to me in the Home Theater during the intro and we both teared up at the end, this game is immortal. And it also still feels absolutely amazing to play. I always thought controlling Joel felt much smoother than the characters in Part II and it's even more apparent now.. can't put my finger on why exactly, but it's night and day to me how despite the slinkiest mechanics in Part II, controlling Ellie and Abby feels janky in comparison.

Haven't even met Robert yet so I can't wait to go back to it, but i've checked the Extra section and the amount of Unlockables is absolutely unreal, no wonder the game's so fucking heavy. Same for the insane amount of Settings and customization, God tier stuff.

Looks like i'm going to enjoy my time for lots and lots of hours, and actually wish every game I love could get this luxury treatment.

Its stunning in parts. Definitely one of the best looking games around on the PS5. I was especially blown away with the level where you're smuggling Ellie out of the city with Tess. The rain and water are crazy good. I just beat Left Behind yesterday and there is a part where you can see the rain and the water pouring off an open window and its just those little details that really sell the experience.

I haven't seen a patch for the game but the bugs I encountered early on seem gone so not sure how that is possible or if I'm just not noticing them suddenly... Some of the encounters are different on the new version, stalkers in particular behave more like in two where they tend to hide and then come out when they can surprise you. AI in general just feels so much better and makes the encounters more stressful.

Last thing I'll say is haptics and a good pair of headphones add so much. The 3d audio in the game is really well done. You can even hear people walking above you in buildings, the creaking of the floorboards. Its all so well done. Glad you're enjoying it, I'm so pumped for ND's next game.

I've just spent hours exploring every inch of environments I already explored hundreds of times.. they really did a remarkable job. The flashlight GI bounce light is looking better than ever, I forgot about the fact I apparently can't play a ND game without playing with lights on every surface for hours. Still the most impressive and satisfying technical/visual aspect in gaming to me, it just never gets old.
Still haven't met Robert yet of course, too busy playing with bounce lights and admiring spore particles and revamped visual storytelling in every room.

Yeah, the audio on my system left me speechless, it truly is phenomenal.

Finished remake. Happy ND done it as I only played original in 2013 once. First half of game was very polished and on pair with lou2, in second I've found few sceneries/elements that could get little more polish. In the end still briliant game and can recomand to everybody who didn't play it many times.

1.02 Patch Notes

  • Fixed various instances across the game where level geometry would drop out at certain vantage points.
  • Fixed various issues related to photo mode.
  • Adjusted the "Fidelity" display setting to target 30 FPS, even with a HFR television. Removed the requirement for VRR to enabled "Unlocked Framerate" in "Fidelity" mode.
  • Updated the descriptions of "Performance" and "Fidelity" modes to more clearly describe their behavior.
  • Small adjustments to the audio mix and lighting during a sequence in the final chapter of the main game.
  • Fixed an issue where the optional conversation around the hanging body in the Pittsburgh Financial Plaza would not trigger.
  • Fixed a global issue where water splash FX were not displaying as intended.
  • Fixed various issues with localized text and Screen Reader in the main menus.
  • Fixed an issue where the credits would be flipped when using the Mirror World modifier.
  • Fixed an instance where characters would be missing facial animations when seen from perspectives only possible in photo mode.
  • (New Game Plus) Fixed an issue where weapon upgrade parts would stop spawning before the player had upgraded all guns.
  • (Accessibility) Improved how Navigation Assistance functions in the Pittsburgh Hotel and the Lakeside Mine fights.
  • (Accessibility) Fixed an issue where Invisibility Toggle with "Limited" time was not counting down correctly.

They updated the 4K fidelity mode.

Removed the fixed 4K 40 Hz target mode for 120 Hz output since it was dropping frames.
Added the option for anyone to run the 4K fidelity mode uncapped, not just w/ VRR output.
So now everyone can have a stable locked 4K30 fidelity mode, or let it run uncapped.

There are a lot graphical bugs and glitches the closer you get to the end. I took a few screens and some of them completely put me off the game for days. You can clearly see that they rushed the QA in the last sections:

What’s a shame, weird tho is I never had any of these kinds of bugs, during both main game and Left Behind. and I just platinumed the game. Idk why it’s so random. Only bugs I ran into was once the photo mode default FOV was like 28 for some reason (fixed itself) and one time the collectibles list was unaligned with where its supposed to be (never happened again.) And I took like 250 photos of this game lol. I also spent a long ass time hunting down those final trophies. Messing with the cheats, skins, etc. Sucks you got some bugs.
