The Last of Us Part II Remastered Chronological Experience Update Announced

Listen up kid, time to get your education.

Both Ubisoft's developer history has been mainly flops recently, hence the Tencent bailout.

Bioware has been on death's door before Veilguard.

Naughty Dog has only been producing hits since Uncharted 2 and had an award winning TV show. The fact that you compared Ubisoft and Bioware shows that you are still new to hardcore gaming.
It's interesting how since Uncharted 2 they have been producing hits but their last good game was Crash Bandicoot 2.
Since Uncharted they have only produced unimaginative 3rd person corridor shooters/walkers with forced fake emotional stories.

A free update.

Surely no one would complain..... right?
I will only complain to say that once again Naughty Dog apparently has all the time in the world to do anything besides put out a 60 FPS patch for the PS4 versions of Uncharted 4 and The Lost Legacy. People should not have to buy Legacy of THieves to enjoy something so basic, especially when LoT has no multiplayer.

That being said this might actually motivate me to get Part II Remastered. All of the other extras were nice but I was satisfied with the vanilla version. This would fundamentally change the main single player experience for me.

So has anyone here actually checked it out yet or has this just been 6 pages of the usual pissing and moaning?

Finished it a couple hours ago.

I have to say the original story structure is the way to go. There's so much tension deflated by going back and forth between protagonists. Ellie's vengeance doesn't feel cohesive anymore because you're immediately shown Abby's side of the story and how sympathetic she comes across. In fact, Chronological starts the story with Abby, almost feeling like this is her story and not Ellie's.

Something i noticed while playing Chronological is that, while you obviously go through all 3 days of Seattle back and forth between characters, there seems to be more Abby sections than Ellie. Maybe is just me or if someone could correct me on that.

I will say though that chronological helps give context to when things are happening between characters. While the original structure gives clues and hints to this, it's easier to understand it when you know where in the story each character is. For example (to avoid spoilers), when Owen and Abby are on the boat... Nora is seeing red.

All in all, Chronological should never be anyone's first time experiencing Part II. But, as a second playthrough i think it's a fun experiment. It does make you see the story a bit differently and helps piece together sequence of events easier.

Started playing this yesterday. The pacing is making this brutal to even try to stick with and I'm a big fan of this game. It is what you expect, all the "walking sim" flashback sequences in a row starting off. Zebra, zoo, aquarium etc.

These segments work in the original context as breathers for the long stretches of carnage and tension but back-to-back, it's fucking excruciating lol. I started last night and literally fell asleep with the controller in my hand while Joel was babbling. The upsidd is I assume it'll be all the really good shit nonstop later...?

I'm still going somehow but yea, this also certainly diminishes the impact of the world building which this game IS great at. The zoo segment works much better after seeing ugly, dark shit for two hours. The contrast creates much more of a melancholic atmosphere.

As soon as Naughty Dog gets mentioned all the I'm not triggered you're triggered crowd comes out to pile onto Neil, TLOU, Woke, bla bla bla blerg, it's amazing how much hate a studio who has done nothing but knock it consistently out of the park gets, it's really something to witness

Yea this shit feels really pointless even as an experiment. It's not working at all for me and ironically feels disjointed and has zero momentum. I'm not sure what the point of this even is at about two hours in...as in I know it was a free update and all so whatever but why even spend dev time on this or who played this internally and thought it worked?

Weird.

I tried 2 hours and thought it was breaking the game, pacing and all. Then I've replayed it the way it should be.

I played sone and imo for new players this is pretty cool for second playthrough especially those who are confused by the plot. But I played the game way too many times so it does nothing for me

I've been meaning to try PII since I got the Pro but never got around to doing it. I'll give this a shot and see if it works for me.

Someone mentioned that the boss in the hotel with Abby is the first one? Luckily I have a collectable I didn't collect there, so may be worth a chance to do that early on.

Do you get to keep your stats, upgrades etc. If you play in this mode?

It's playing the game from scratch in a Chronological Order mode. The first combat segment is the hotel ambush and boss where you attempt to get to the music store with E + J. I didn't see an option to do NG+ going inti that mode?

I'm curious to know that type of skill level you're at if you're in this type of place. I imagine you need certain types of weapons / equipment for battles this late in game that's now early on?

This reminds me of the Arrested Development creator doing the same thing with season four of that show.

They couldn't get all the actors' schedules aligned, so that season focused mainly on individual character scenes instead of the ensemble style that made the earlier seasons so good.

So it was told out of chronological order, kind of flatlined with audiences, and as a last-ditch effort, Mitchell Hurwitz went and re-edited it to be in order.

It didn't work in that case. I'm kind of curious about how it'll work in TLOU2.

people talk about kojima loving the smell of his farts, but i'd say this exercise sorta leaves him in the dust...

The game just kinda hands you weapons suitable for the scenario. Like the hotel sequence just starts with you having a pistol and rifle. I'm on Hard and I had way, way enough shit. You basically "spawn" with the equipment.
