The Last of Us Part II Remastered PC Features, New No Return Content Detailed

This is a PS4 game, not even cross gen. Part 1 is a PS5 game, it was build without limitations of last gen.
Sounds like you drank their kool aid more than I did. Lol. I can guarantee you, they can easily port it to PS4 if they had chosen to. It will load forever and have some blurry textures (just like part 2) but that’s about it. It’s the same damn engine. Just some high quality assets isn’t going to make it a generational barrier. Anyway, we are going in circles. If the PC version looks like a ps4 game, I’m not even the one that it affects. So… we shall see!

Intergalactic on the other hand is an actual PS5 game. Stuff they are showing in the trailer would break the PS4. They actually need to turn off features to back port it.

We Have TW3 port on Switch... anything is possible.

I bet this game was cross gen at first, but at some point this changed and they really didn't have to worry about RAM or CPU limitations that much.

If they wanted to change anything they would do that for PS5 port, they didn't. I bet PC version will be 1:1 with PS5 remastered that is almost identical to PS4 Pro version that is identical to base PS4 version (just in different resolution).

This is comparable to Jedi FO and Survivor: same engine, same general "look" of the game but difference is one game targeted Xbox One/PS4 and the other one is current gen.

Fine. So, according to you and your own example, the PC version of in-game Joel would just be an up-rezzed version of the left and NOT the right:

I mean, this is how "different" PS4 and PS5 versions are:

Why would PC version look any different if they did "this much" for PS5 port of the game?

The point you are missing throughout this discussion is that resolution is THE biggest difference in your own comparison of part 2 to part 1. Crank up texture and screen resolution and voila, your so called ps4 game becomes your so called ps5 game. On pc ultra at 4k, where whatever optimizations were done for ps5 can be completely brute forced, there will be nothing stopping part 2 from looking like part 1. Happy to be proven wrong. All this is assuming it would even be a good port. If it isn’t, then this whole debate was pointless :D

Look at those PS5 quality 4K games!!!!

Resolution don't make differences like that.

Remaster is the same game as PS4 version. ONLY real difference is draw distance for some foliage:

The PS5 version of TLOU2 was just a simple port, they increased the resolution and framerate, but overall the graphics still looked the same. This was understandable, as the PS5's GPU was only 2.5x faster than the PS4Pro's and all that GPU power probably went for resolution / framerate increase.

TLOU part 2 on PC could look much better than the PS4 version (RT GI, RT reflections, higher resolutions testures and more detailed assets). Rockstar proved that a PS4 game on PC (GTA5 EE) can have all these improvements and still run at 4K native 60fps on modern GPU's, but that would require some effort and time ($$$$). But I'm still happy that we will finally see this game on PC, I only had the PS4 Pro version, so even a simple resolution and framerate increase will make a big difference for me. I'm expecting to get around 60fps at 4K TAA native, and 140-160fps with DLSS Q + FGx2, so the gap between the PS4Pro will be huge.

Or is it just one of Phil's balls in my throat?

Yes, probably.

Unless the porting studio is putting in extra work on the PC version that they didn't do for the PS5 'remaster' re-release and importing the higher fidelity equivalent models from Part 1, the PC version is most probably going to look like the one on the left with the possibility of higher resolution and DLSS/DLA etc to cleanup the edges.

I wouldn't be surprised if things like LODs and shadow res can be bumped up a bit, as those are often already tuned by the developer, so there should be variables available for them to control with the options menu.

Both of these are PS3 titles.

This game is 5 years old yet there are very few 'modern titles' which actually look a generation ahead.
Doom Eternal has interesting art direction and may look good when you look at the scenery, but when you look at the details from up close, the game often looks like a PS4 era game, if not PS3.

But at least Doom Eternal runs extremely well, 350-500fps at 1440p TAA with maxed out settings, 220-260fps at 4K TAA native.

Doom eternal is 5 years old, but it does not look better than Crysis 2, game made in 2011.

I think it's one of the best looking 'PS4 era' titles. Are those maxed out settings? In fairness many games will have 'low poly' segments' but overall most scenes look quite good. The first level in the game is the worst looking BTW.

Technically not a visual beast but the good art direction helps.

Screenshots with unlocked framerate : nightmare settings at 1440p TAA without RT reflections. Screenshots with a 160 fps cap, nightmare settings at 1440p DLAA (Transformer) with RT reflections.

IMO good art direction is even more important than graphical fidelity. For example remakes. Some remakes look less impressive to me than the original game, even though remakes have higher assets quality and more accurate lighting.

I like TLOU part 1 remake.... but to me honest I still prefer the original on the PS4 because of art direction.

Eternal got extensive upgrades when patched to PS5/XSX. Regular PC version also was above console version day one in some aspects.

Dark Souls 3.

Resolution makes the game look much better but it's still the same game, 4k doesn't make it look "next gen".

Anyway, DS3 has fucking amazing art direction...

DS has always looked trash to my eyes. Even Elden Rings looks last gen.

IMO there are only a handful of games which truly look next gen.

I completed it on PS4 in 2020. I still boot up PS4 version on PS5 from time to time. I wanted to "upgrade" to remaster at first but after seeing that it does almost fucking nothing I changed my mind.
you did the right thing, ps5 remaster is horrible
you get 60 fps at 1440p output... not at 4k output. you need 30/40 fps to get that "4k" sharpness
if they instead used 4k taau performance, it would've looked much better than the native 1440p mode

The best thing is that they had performance overhead

They could have added TAAU upsampling to 4k from 1440p or even FSR2/3 Quality. But they didn't and waited for Pro release to that with PSSR.... I think it was conspiracy to make Pro version look better vs. 1440p blurry output they have with PS5 version.

They also added some ugly sharpening to base PS5 version in Q4 last year? Yeah, regular patched PS4 Pro version is not too bad...
