The Last Remnant Review Thread

This looks like the biggest contrast between pretty much every single major review site and regular gamers in a loooooooong time.

Have any of the regular gamers here actually beaten it yet? All of the other (low reviewed) SaGa games have a gargantuan grind leading up the last boss. If TLR lives up to its roots, the end game might really piss a lot of people off.

Oh, and their endings tend to be short and unsatisfying.

Do you have any idea if the DLC stuff are unlocks for stuff you can unlock in the game normally, or additional content that isn't in the normal game at all?

I'd say that the free stuff are just new scenarios for guild quests.

The only paid DLC is the pre-order bonus formations.

Meaning no, you cannot unlock these by playing the game.

That's what I'm curious about. I want to hear from readers that disagree with these reviews that have actually beaten the game. If you're still on disc 1, you might have a totally different opinion of the game than someone deep into disc 2.

*grumbles*

Ok I kinda agree on making silver members wait a week for demo's and all but if someone bought the damn game, that has no online feature whatsoever, making them wait a week for free DLC because they are only silver is lame.

Why are they creating such a divide?

I'm a gold member and appreciate having added bonuses but damn, why do they treat some of their customers like peasants?

Don't the gold members endure enough marketing/commercial bullshit to make up for those xbl silver accounts?

They could have just as easily made the download time artificially longer and make the silver accounts endure some shitty commercial. I dunno, this doesn't seem like the best way to handle their userbase.

Rant off.

Wow this game is selling well in Japan though. 100k copies the first week.

Seriously I've never trusted JRPG reviews from Western journals, but that's because I'm not one and I don't share all the same taste in gaming. They tend to be clueless when reviewing JRPGs and don't give good scores unless 1. Game received good reviews from many review sites (conformity, afraid of being labeled bad taste) or 2. It's final fantasy (so this piece of shit I'm playing must be good).

Maybe some of the acheivements that haven't been discovered are in these packs? Maybe the one for the 140 pointer for the "greatest challenge" will be in "The Price of Lies" pack.

Welcome to the wonderful world of WRPGs. Especially by Bioware. Never seems to hurt them!

There's a world of difference between SaGa endings and WRPG endings.

Saga games are generally about the gameplay, not the story. But even Saga games have a better ending than Fallout 3. I don't think Bioware has poor endings though.

Thoroughly enjoying this game.

A good blend of eastern and western design philosophies into a very addictive battle system featuring lots of risk vs. reward sensibilities.

Also, this game rewards you constantly so grinding never feels pointless.

New video preview up at IGN. Seems good, still much more positive than I'd expect from the press. Hope it stays that way and is worthy of the praise :D Obviously it isn't going to light up the usual sources, especially given it's presentation, but the gameplay sounds solid.
This is why you never listen to previews. They are always trying to sell the game on previews, but say what they really want to in the reviews.

Wow this looks like it's as bad as IU review-wise..... Is it impossible for U.S reviewers to give JRPGs correct reviews? First LO, then IU, and now TLR. Meanwhile they give Eternal sonata decent reviews? :lol

was thinking this too :p

Just finished the game. It was a fun long ride. Story and combat was pretty well done. Didn't like the little loot drops, crafting system and monsters having way too many HP later on. Battles ended up being 2-3 unions bashing a group until it died then moving onto the next. It wasn't worth pulling more than one. Just made battle much longer. Only crafted 2 items with only a shield worthwhile.

Oh, so you've played both?

I played both of them. Lost Odyssey I finished few weeks ago, and I started the Last Remnant as soon as I finished it.

Both games are good. I enjoy them a lot. But Lost Odyssey is a far, far superior product, in my point of view.
