YES. Now I'll be able to watch and livetweet/GAF with everyone! :'D

I updated my post to include some info. I guess with Justin.tv streams, it's not always guaranteed. If too many people are watching, it can crash. Or if it gets too much attention, the channel can get pulled for copyright reasons.

At least, that's what I assume they are saying. Just saying that now, so people don't get their hopes up and wait. I'll try to look for more streams as it gets closer too.

Gotcha. I'll try to keep an eye on /r/TheLastAirbender to see if anyone there posts links other streams.

You can't compare the storytelling in a 3-season, 61-episode series to one which was initially only 12 episodes. Certainly, some of the story elements are weak, but ATLA had some real clunkers as well. I think waiting a week between episodes and having an outlet to bitch about them makes the episodes seem worse. I rewatched the series on Blu-ray and I didn't think the shipping was bad. Have you ever talked to this show's intended audience? All my daughter's friends who watch it love it. They're not sitting around complaining that the separatist movement wasn't adequately explored.

I wish I knew how to stream my TV to justin.tv. Does it require equipment? I would totally be down to host a private channel on Justin.tv just for NeoGAF. That way it's not being hit with a lot of people, and it won't be as well known (since it won't be advertised as such). I just have no idea how people stream from their DVR to their computer. Or if that's even how they do it.

Did Mako ever formally break up with Asami or did he really cheat on her with Korra?

I remember that love triangle's resolution really leaving a bad taste in my mouth and made me absolutely hate Mako and Korra, but I haven't seen the first season in awhile and want to know if I'm misremembering.

Basically cheated on her both physically and emotionally. The way they handled the love triangle was poor, because it made Korra and Mako seem like assholes. They completely shit all over their close friend.

The shipping was pretty bad, because it wasn't fleshed out at all. I agree that the shipping wasn't as bad as some people make it out to be (in terms of, how much time it actually took up in the season. I don't think it was as intrusive as some said. But in terms of the actual relationships itself, they were very poorly handled.

Bryan and Mike clarified in the commentary that the conversation between Mako and Asami underground in episode 11 or 12 (it takes place before Korra and Mako go to fight Amon) was supposed to be the official break-up. They lamented that they might not have made it clear enough. So technically Mako isn't a complete asshole, but... c'mon, he's still a pretty big asshole.

It's funny how Asami emerged as the best character in the show by far. Decent backstory, awesome skills, gets completely shitted on by father and boyfriend but still strong enough to fight for what she believes in.

She deserves a better group of people around her.

Seriously, the rest of the main cast is so weak.

yeah, Mako and Korra were assholes kinda, but haven't we all been there? Love is not always clean or pretty. I liked that it made the romance ugly and messy, like teenage love is, unlike the Disney idealized romance most shows go for. Even Aang and Katara was a bit too idealized for me.

I was happy when Mako dumped Asami, because it was stupid to have them together when you could tell he was secretly pining for Korra. That was worse to me than the breakup. It was just kinda dumb how Mako handled it. I don't know why he acted disinterested in Korra at first if he actually liked her instead of just pursuing her. Maybe cause he knew Bolin liked her I guess.

But I like that people actually get dumped in this series, instead of how everyone in TLA was a OTP (unless they died :p)

Yeah, I can respect what they tried to accomplish with the romance. I just don't think Book 1 of Legend of Korra was the right place for it. They clearly needed much more time to flesh out the characters and their relationships.

Ah crap. I forgot that the East Coast gets it 3 hours before me. 7 is pretty early here, but you guys get it when it's 4pm my time. Kind of tempted to just watch the stream.

Asami is my favorite character from Book One. Easily.

In both cases, the Avatar gets an ability that solves their problem. But the context is different. Aang is a capable Avatar who learned and grew over three seasons. He did not need energy bending to beat the fire lord - he just needed it to avoid killing him. Energy bending may have come out of left field, but it was a cool addition to the Avatar universe. It did not seem out of place.

Now lets compare that to Korra. She learns almost nothing over the season, repeating major mistakes. She *loses* her bending, which is an unprecedented fuckup on her part. I don't have an issue with this aiding in her ability to learn airbending. But then Aang comes in and gives ehr back everything she lost, PLUS energy bending PLUS the avatar state. She did not need to go on any spiritual quest like Aang did (Even with regards to energy bending, Aang spoke to those previous avatars and despite their advice, he decided not to kill the fire lord - a tough choice). She literally had everything handed to her without any legitimate effort on her part.

I honestly do not see how that is not worse. Yes energy bending came out of left field, but at least Aang did not have *everything* handed to him.

Yes. My thoughts put into words more eloquently than I could have done.

Yeah, it really sucks that they wrote Book One as a one off story. Although it doesn't excuse this poorly written ending that wrapped everything up nicely. Even if they didn't plan on writing beyond that season, they shouldn't have written plot that required so many things that needed to be concluded.

Exactly. I can't look at Korra as the hero any more because I couldn't believe just how awful of a move that was. I'll give this season another chance though.

Not just Mako, but Korra. It completely ruined her character for me. I'm hoping they deal with how they completely screwed over Asami in Season 2 and somehow redeem Mako and Korra because that was just awful.

I understand if they want to realistically portray teenage romance. Just don't expect me to like the characters after doing shitty things to good and loyal people. If they wanted to delve into that drama, they need to examine the fallout associated with cheating and betrayal. Either Korra or Mako showing some guilt from cheating, or Asumi not associating either of them would have been a good direction to take. Instead they ended the self-contained series with everything being peachy keen. That's an awful direction to take.

On the topic of Asami, I definitely think she was the best written of the four. Her motives against her father were solid enough, though I wish she had said them aloud. She disagrees with her father's views on bending but never made it clear why. A small detail, and perhaps it can be inferred or is just obvious. But I would have liked her to say it.

Also, she had one too many lines that basically amounted to saying "My father" in an ashamed tone of voice. Again, a small detail.

Erm, guys, I'm not sure how stoked the mods will be with people sharing streams in here.

They're not, you know, legal. I highly advise you edit your posts and quotes, unless a moderator says otherwise.

In other news, 20 minutes to go! :D

I didn't know streams weren't allowed to be posted on here. I'll go edit out all my posts. I can't edit other peoples posts, so...I guess I'll just hope they go back and edit out the links when they quoted me.

EDIT: I sent PMS to everyone that quoted me, and they've all been removed.

I think we can all agree that season one could've been done better, but season two is upon us and we shall see whether or not it will be done better. Season two was the best season of A:TLA - the most character-driven, unique twists, fascinating locations, the best mix of conflict and adventure, and all with a completely unexpected ending.

So tonight we push back season one in our minds (or completely erase it if you despised it like I did), and we see what season two has to offer.

I've been watching nostalgia critic give his impressions on avatar episodes all day, only 10 mins left!

Screw the episodes he brought Rob in for. Those didn't even feel like they were talking about the show, just Rob constantly trying to get his two cents in on literally everything.
