The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild |OT2| It's 98 All Over Again

This game is incredible and I can't get enough of it. I finished the game after 120 hours and I find myself drawn back into it constantly - now I've racked up another 30 hours. Best game I've ever played.

How can I see how many hours I've put into Zelda on Switch? Aside from activity on Switch (since I just got it and it's not showing me actual hours)

You could download the Switch parental control app, it shows your playtime (summed over all games, not each game separately sadly), from that you can deduce your playtime until you hit 10 days and the Switch activity log (which works in increments of 5 hours) unlocks.

That's almost it - I now have every single possible upgrade for my armors (no more farming... that's actually kind of sad, it was always quite a relaxing task), I have finished the entire compendium and basically the only thing left to do for me is to explore Hyrule castle ( I still have to sidequest attached to that ) and beat the boss to get the real ending (already spontaneously beat him once after two dungeons). I think I'm close to 200 hours of gameplay now. Man this game...!

And I already know that even after that I will spend more hours in the world of this game, just to collect Korok Seeds (I have 338 right now and want to find at least half of them by my own), relax, pose for some cool photos. And probably return to the game a few times just to start a new file and try to beat it in only a few hours - with and without the dungeons.

And then it's already DLC time - can't wait!

It's incredible how many hours this game can provide. I'm definitely going to do a second playthrough to try to beat the game as fast as possible too.

Yesterday I found a pretty important thing, and now I guess I would like to know where that respec altar is and how to use it.

Spoiler tag your help.
It's somewhere in Hateno I heard?

After spending all my time with Horizon for the last month, I finally booted this up for the first time this morning for about 2 hours. Pretty good so far. load times, frame rate, and draw distance are better than I expected (Wii U)

The graphics were hard to adjust to coming from Horizon on the pro but thankfully the art style is good and compensates for it.

I think the strongest points are the exploration and playing with runes and the physics based stuff. I think rolling a rock over an explosive barrel and blowing up a camp of bad guys was the highlight so far.

The actual combat is okay, nothing exciting. I missed gyro controls though. The magnet rune is pretty cool but I haven't found much stuff in the overworld that I can use it on. In the shrine it was in I picked up a metal block and smashed the bug with it, that was neat. Hope later areas have more metal stuff laying around.

I hate cooking in every game, this one is no exception. Hope there's some shortcuts at some point cause selecting everything in the menu for every time I want to cook something is really cumbersome. The little song Link hums is fun though. I guess the problem is it seems like cooking is really important, so it detracts from the game. Doesn't seem like something I will be able to avoid.

The weapon durability isn't as bad as I thought it would be, doesn't seem like a big deal. Could live without it though.

Overall it's a pretty great game so far though, I think I will enjoy it. Not getting best of all time vibes though. Of course I'm still very early so my opinion could easily be changed. I do hope some other devs take some notes with the exploration aspects though.

About finished, but before I do.

What side quest in Kariko did I likely miss?

How do I get the Innkeep to talk to me for that quest in Hateno?

Where do I find the stealth fish?

How do I make or where do I find the cake?

Walk around the counter

4.
Talk to an old lady in Tarry Town or in the Library of Hyrule Castle.

Does Wii U not have motion controls for aiming? It works beautifully on the Switch.

Cooking is completely optional. You can go the route of upgrading your gear for buffs/better protection, cooking or both.

You can use less buttons to hold stuff by pressing x in the inventory, and you can also skip the cooking animation by pressing x. Really speeds up cooking if you want to do it.

The Wii U has gyro aiming which is pretty fun, especially when using the magnet rune. When I smashed the bug thing with the block it was pretty satisfying. I just don't find the melee combat much fun. But maybe it will get better.

Glad to hear about being able to avoid cooking. I got a warm doublet pretty early on that protected me from the cold. Thanks for the tips!

One thing I forgot to mention is I really like being able to climb wherever I want to. Hope more games pick up on that.

I'll spoiler this in case but for #4

you can actually cook a cake. Milk, sugar, eggs, butter, and whatever fruit you use. Not sure but I think you can make a variety of cakes because my son made a cheesecake.

Glad to hear about being able to avoid cooking. I got a warm doublet pretty early on that protected me from the cold. Thanks for the tips!

I usually hate cooking/crafting in games because of the menu based busywork involved, the lack of logic in recipes and the negligible effect of the results.

Here, I feel the cooking system is robust and logical, the effects are substantial and the process is tactile. I love how you need to hold everything as an object and you get to see the objects interact to make something surprising. Really goes a long way to making it enjoyable, but I guess your mileage may vary.

Just got to Goron town. Was just wandering around but now I have quite a few loose ends I want to follow up before I progress forwards. trying to avoid selling gems so running a little low on cash after buying lots of arrows.

Used up my few cores upgrading stasis so back to square one on that, but I have 20 gears already. Are there weapons that give a better drop rate on guardians or do you get more from
chopping legs off individually
? And what are
ancient
arrows good for? Normal ones seem to work well enough and I don't have many so don't want to waste them

Small weapon/quest spoiler:
I need to get a Moblin club for the kid but all I find are Moblin dragon/bone/etc clubs but not the vanilla ones. Any good places to get one?

Also on a different point, the
Arena
:
I had been there before and quickly ran out when the Lynel one shot me. But now I went back, 6 shields, 4 weapons and about 40 hearts later I finally killed it. Luckily after going up I ended up with a full inventory of royal shields and weaponry :).

Zora quest spoiler/question:
Can someone give me a hint where to find the lost wife? The guy hints around lake Hylia but I have looked everywhere around the lake and the river between Zora and the lake. Got a lot of Koroks but no lost Zora wife..

ancient
arrows...
one shot guardians when you hit their eye.

Also, don't waste money on buying arrows. You can farm every type fairly easy.

I just really needed some before heading into a divine beast. Didn't fancy farming. I think the road to zora was good for that though? Any other good arrow farming areas?

How long before I can see what gems are useful for? Still only have one fairy fountain found, and will soon be two divine beasts.

Don't look at cooking as a thing you should "avoid". Look at it as a thing that is "optional". Dishes you cook sell for more rupees than the original ingredients combined, for example.

I personally really enjoy discovering new recipes, just wished there was a recipe book for collecting recipes like you collect weapons/enemies/etc.

I had a dream I was walking somewhere while looking on my phone and four Guardian Stalkers suddenly surrounded me. Hope I had a shield.

I also had trouble with this one
because at that point in my game most Moblins were already carrying better weapons. I basically had to run around with the radar thing set to Moblin Clubs for a bit in the early game areas because I knew I had seen them there before (they were in my pokedex thing after all).

I ended up finding them by retracing my steps: start from the plateau, look in the direction of the two mountains that the king sends you to when he tells you to go to Kakariko in the beginning, and look for a forest between the mountains and the plateau. Go there. There were a couple of moblins walking around with moblin clubs for me at least, although I don't know how random that is.

I would like it much better if there was a recipe list you could choose from and I could just press it and it would cook it after the first time I've made something. I don't mind going through the process when I'm trying stuff out.

I don't really like going into the menu, selecting my ingredients, exiting out of the menu and then placing it in the pot. Then worst of all, if I want to cook the same thing again I have to do it all over. When I was preparing to go into a cold area the first time it wasn't fun going through that process. It seems like it could be streamlined pretty substantially.

At least there are fun little things that happen, like seeing the items pop up in his arms, the little song that plays when you cook, and Link's reaction to what comes out. But after dozens of times I don't know if I will care about that anymore.

Just finished the game too.. What an experience. Definitely up there in my GOAT list. "More than 90 hours." for played.
How is Nintendo with additional content? Should I expect anything meaty from the season pass?

1. Try around the Zora area, that's where I found mine even after many a blood moon. It's a big black wooden club. While enemies generally scale, this is not across the board and some low-level enemies will always be present.

2. I heard that area also increases with either how many times you've cleared it or how far in the story you've gotten.

You can create your own recipe book.
Use the Shieka Slate camera on the recipes found in the stables and other places.

Yeah, at the very least I would have loved a 'repeat' option after cooking a meal, or 'cook this recipe x amounts'. I'm usually drowning in items and I often put off cooking at this point because it takes just a little too long for me. I liked it at first but I've done it enough times that I get it. An option popping up to speed up the process a little bit after cooking a set amount of times would be ideal. I get how the different ingredients interact with each other at this point so there aren't a lot of new surprises for me there either.

You can create your own recipe book.
Use the Shieka Slate camera on the recipes found in the stables and other places.
.

The problem with that is
that the camera only holds a very small amount of pictures. It fills up quickly if you're also taking pictures to fill up your pokedex. I'm constantly deleting pictures to the point where I very rarely bother to take pictures of stuff beyond the pokedex thing.

While I'm happy it's optional I'm still avoiding it because I don't like the process. I don't mind collecting the ingredients and discovering recipes but the actual mechanics of cooking could be streamlined. It's good other people enjoy it, it's just not for me. I was just worried based on my initial impressions that it was critical to being successful in the game.

Took down Vah Rudania. The mission before entering the beast is so much fun!

Two to go. I will again play for 20-30 hours before tackling the next one.

Call from friend who just got the game and asked where to find the durability points window

Me: The game tells you when the weapon is about to break

Him:

I agree with you, found the mission to be quite fun. I think, though, that there were massive complaints from several GAFfers about this section. Don't understand why, though.

How many hours in are you? I am 75 and have done 3 divine beasts, you seem to be on a similar track.

Random tidbit

Early on in the game I encountered a shrine surrounded by a huge amount of spikes and I walked by it and decided to come back to it later on. Well guess what, 110 hours later and I still can't find it lol

There's a bunch or places to farm them but my favorite is one of those 3 tiered treehouse looking things with multiple bokoblins. Often they'll shoot elemental arrows too depending on your location. I let the scout see me and they just all start shooting arrows at me. 3 or 4 of them with a bow can score you a bunch. I just let them shoot at me and pick up the arrows they miss. Not sure what the drop rate is because you only always get an arrow, but it's pretty effective. Also if you equip a wooden shield any arrow that sticks to it is yours to keep.

Gems will come into play once you unlock the next
2 and 3 great fairy spots. They cost a lot though so you might end up using the gems to fund their unlock. You can only upgrade your armor to the level that matches the # of fairy's you've unlocked. The nice thing is you don't have to keep going back to all of them once they're unlocked to upgrade your armor. You can upgrade all the levels at the same fairy.
Hope that makes sense.

Yeah, I was worried before doing the mission as some people were complaining about the mission (didn't know about the details), but turned out surprised by how fun it is. I also like the goofy animation of Y
unobo
.

I have passed 60 hours and have done Vah Ruta before this one. Always going back to some previously discovered areas to find new stuff and to complete shrines. I enjoy this game so much that I want to take it in slowly. Hopefully I can complete the game before May.

Found an out of bounds in
The viga hideout in karuso valley
.

While sneaking around in the first room, the one with two guards, I went up high on the wall to drop down next to the door guard for a sneak strike.

I took the camera vertical, and accidentally whistled. So of course the guards realized where I was, but the ledge was too thin for them to spawn, and the archer spawns couldn't hit me. I decided to throw bombs at them.

During my bomb throwing exercise i constantly moved left right with the camera vertical, about twenty seconds later I realized I was falling, and landed on a ground space underneath the
hideout
.

I proceeded to walk underneath the second room, treasure room, and hit an invisible wall into the large open space at the end of the valley.

Climbed up, and got wedged between the walls from the treasure room and the open room, moved the camera vertical and popped out the other end. Except I never opened the door from the treasure room (and it doesn't work from the outside). So I couldn't spawn the final encounter. Had to climb up go back to the beginning and restart the whole mess.

I'm sure if you could somehow move the door while underneath the location, and then walk backwards into the treasure room you could skip the sneaking rooms.

Kinda want to try, but now I'm further along
